Loved it! 8/31/2006

My husband and I came here for our 10 year anniversary. We came bearing a $100 gift certificate which would barely cover the cost! The food is absolutely amazing & fresh. The atmosphere was beautiful! Wood ceilings that flow in a wave design from the front to the back of the restaurant. the walls are a sort of stucco with pattens designed into them. The low walls that divide the tables in the center of the restaurant change colors with internal lighting inside of them. The sushi bar is at the back of the restaurant which I didn't get a chance to go see. I also was talking to the server and they mentioned there is a bar upstairs that overlooks the restaurant! The bathrooms are a "must see" as well. Very pretty! more

Iron Chef in Philly! 4/16/2006

Morimoto is the Iron Chef's restaurant and is located in Center City Philadelphia. Here you will have some of the best sushi in Philadelphia. We loved the selection of sushi and also thought the other food on the menu was delicious. Morimoto is very expensive and a special treat! I also loved sophisticated decor and atmosphere. more

LOVE this restaurant 3/20/2006

Be prepared to spend a lot of money here, but it's worth it. The sushi is delicious and fresh. The best I've had in Philadelphia. My friend had the rock shrimp appetizer (I think it was rock shrimp) and that was delicious as well. Morimoto also has fun drinks and a hip atmosphere. I've heard that Morimoto himself is often there, but we didn't see him during our visit. I'm looking forward to going there again (after I've saved up a little...haha) and maybe next time he'll be there. Highly highly recommend this restaurant. more

Iron Chef Tofu 10/21/2005

If you are going to Morimoto, you already know you are going to be spending an exorbitant amount of money. So, it really shouldn’t surprise you too much to see a $20 tofu dish. The tofu turns from liquid soy milk into its solid state at your table in a matter of eight minutes. Aside from the tofu, the omakasa menu does represent some of the finest items that the restaurant has to offer. While Morimoto isn’t a everyday dining event, it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the Philadelphia area. Besides, how often do you get to see the Iron Chef in-person. *note – Morimoto is onsite sparingly. more

Great Seafood Dishes!! i wouldn't go for the sushi but the Iron Shef is beyond excellent in preparing out of the ordinary dishes from the orient more

Omagosh... omakase 9/30/2005

Morimoto... for the utterly ultimate japanese food experience known to americans, from the restaurant of iron chef morimoto himself. What makes this restaurant super-unique is its beverage selection, and of course the omakase - a special 8-9 course meal specifically arranged by a master chef for you. Current budgets for omakase at morimoto are 80, 100 and 120 dollars per person, but it's a necessary experience for those who like asian food. more

World Class Restaurant!!! 9/29/2005

This is one of Stephen Starr's best restaurants! The Head chef is Morimoto himself, provides a world class menu worthy of an Iron Chef. I would highly recommend the Omakase, which is a seven course meal chosen by the chef himself. There are a few raw items on the menu, so please be forewarned if you do not eat raw meat. The taste of the food is exteremely flavorful, and I would have to say this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. The price can get quite expensive, but I believe that it is well worth the price. The atmostphere is a lil out of place, with the restaurant being located on 7th and chestnut, but it is cool nonetheless. more

Fabulous Japanese food! 9/27/2005

Run by Iron Chef Morimoto, this restaurant has some great Japanese food. I've had the omakase (chef's tasting menu) three times, and have not been disappointed by anything so far. The food is inventive and delicious, the drinks are interesting (but overpriced). The waitstaff is very good about explaining the dishes. A very pricy but enjoyable experience! more

Fantastic dining expereince 9/14/2005

My favorite S. Starr joint. Great drinks and cool ambiance, alhough I found the lighting a bit tacky! The staff is friendly and the price is reasonable given you are eating from the Iron Chef. Never had a problem with reservations. The bar upstairs is rather small. Loved the vegetarian dishes, esp the fresh tofu. Ask to speak with Morimoto himself if he is in town! Great place to start the night in Philly! more
