Growing up in Kansas City, I gained experience with a wide variety of Bar-B-Q. The first time I ate here, the waiter said, ""This won't be like anything you've ever had in KC."" He was right about that. I tried ribs and shrimp on the first experience, and the ribs had the worst flavor of any ribs I have ever eaten. The shrimp was deep fried and obviously freezer burned and overcooked. The second time I ate there, chicken was served. Again the flavor proved awful and was only saved by an overabundance of sauce to drown the taste of the meal. If only the other half who was raised in Cincinnati would recognize how awful this experience is, I would be saved. Now when she insists on going, I try to arrange her to eat with a misguided friend or relative. The restaurant also requires valet parking, for Bar-B-Q! Ridiculous. Remember, Bar-B-Q is NOT a delicacy and not expensive to prepare, so how does the Montgomery Inn fool many people into believing it provides an elegant experience? An average meal here, without alcoholic beverages or appetizers will cost approximately $35 a person (plus valet and tip), in KC it would be approximately $11 a person for a much better meal, you do the math.
Pros: Good illusion and atmosphere
Cons: Slow service, high prices, terrible food.
