Editorial review from Citysearch 12/6/2012

Montevista Hospital is THE worst hospital in the Las Vegas area. I am writing from direct knowledge not just what they wanted me to see. Melanie V. obviously had a rare expierence not a typical one. If you need Mental Health services go to one of the 2 other hospitals and get the help you need. Here they check the insurance and admit if it is there. They give you a 5 minute visit with the doctor during you 72 hour hold. If you care about yourself or your loved one, then please don't go here. Go to one of the other hospitals and get the help you need. more

I wanted to make sure to write a review of this place after my daughter attended, and I had read all of the horrible reviews it received from other patients on this website.\r \r My daughter was admitted late on a Sunday night, and I advised the nurse at the time that I would like her discharged no later than the following Friday. They advise it shouldn't be a problem.\r \r I met with who would be her Doctor, Dr. Okeke, and the nursing and therapy team on Monday morning. They were all very nice and seemed like the actually listened to what I was telling them. I also explained that I wanted her out by Friday, if possible.\r \r I then began what would be one of the hardest weeks of my life. You are only allowed visitation twice a week during the week, and one 5 minute phone call once per night. It was so hard! The first night of visitation I was allowed, I went down to see her. I was allowed to stay extra time, and was even allowed to eat dinner with her in a private room! The charge nurse was awesome. \r \r I would call each day a few times a day to check on her, and the people on the phone were always very nice. I do have to say there is a younger girl that works at the front reception desk, and she is very rude. She makes you feel like you are bothering her. There is also an older lady, and she was very nice.\r \r We also had a family therapy session where I was able to speak with the therapist, Jim, who was working directly with my daughter. My daughter also joined us. I could see the light bulb turning on in my daughter while we were speaking with the therapist. He has funny, and was able to relate to her even though she is only a teenager. Some of the information he provided to her is still with her now, and for that, I am grateful.\r \r Each time I went to visit with my daughter, she said the staff were very nice to her, and the other patients were nice to her as well. She felt a little like being in jail, but once I explained why, she was okay with it.\r \r My daughter was discharged on Friday morning, just has I had asked. The billing lady was nice, the discharge nurse was nice. We have an overall good experience.\r \r I wanted to make sure to put this up for anyone looking for reviews. My daughter and I had good experience with this facility, and if needed, I would recommend her going back for additional help. more

Horror of Monte Vista hospital 1/5/2012

This is a horryfing place to be. My boyfriend is in there and the treatment he has undergone is horryfying considering he has ptsd. They didnt even have his records and were not giving his meds according to record and was treating him like he didnt even know what his meds were. He didnt see a doctor till almost 48 hours in when he should have seen a doctor in the first 24 hours. The nurses are horrible in the way that they treat patients and the way they talk to them. When he did see a doctor it was when they were handing out meds and did no real review of his case or anything. Now he is under voluntary hold but they still wont let him go because they say a doctor needs to see if he needs more help which they would know if he would if the doctor has actually seen with in the first 24 hours. He is also a military man and they arent doing anything for him. they dont have the patient advocate rights or patients advocate personal located anywhere for people to see. it is getting to the point where they are holding up him with out cause and now have to retain help in order to get him released. this place needs to be shut and sued for med mal practice. there isnt a rating low enough for this place. this isnt a place to get help this is a place where they hold you so they can get paid more

Prison disguised as Help 4/22/2010

I went into Monte Vista back in Dec 09'. I have to say that the horrors stories are true for this hospital. This Hospital is under the PSI (psychiatric Solutions Inc or Psychotheraputic Serves Inc)umbrella a for profit company that supposedly provides dignified services for people with Mental Illnesses. My experienced has left me with a horrible fear of these hospitals unlike before that I could deal with them. I was lied to by the doctor because he did not want to prescribe a med that I needed. I was told several times " We dont treat that on this unit." I was denied mobility assistance when I could hardly walk because of knee issues and was told anything they could give me was considered a weapon so I could not have anything and yet someone who could walk but was elderly was given a wheelchair and a walker but I could not get anything even though I fell twice because my knee went out. They were supposed to put me in the fall risk category but did not upon intake and because they did not I was denied help. I watched as a therapist berated a patient, who was appropriate and calm in his statements, then kicked him out of the group because the patient did not agree with the therapists ideologies or beliefs about recovery. The state patient rights do not state that a patient has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and this hospital takes every opportunity to treat patients worse than prisoners are in the jail system. I would not recommend this hospital even to my worst enemy because I feel everyone has a right to be treated humanly and this hospital doesn't. Most of the doctors think they are god and don't need to listen to their patients. They give medications they think will work regardless of objections from the patient whether it is because they don't work or other reasons. A person is to be seen by the doctor with in 24 hours of admission and aren't. My doctor prescribed medications without talking with me first and without knowing my medical history. I am sorry I could go on and on but I still continue to have severe nightmares since dec and considering I have PTSD it is not good. This hospital has done me more damage than it has good. I can't rate this hospital because there is not a rating low enough; however, since I cant publish this without one I give it an eh Pros: Decent food, and some caring low level staff Cons: Demeaning, domineering, favoritism more
