Houston's Best Kept Secret 1/9/2007

What an experience!!!!!! Me and my girlfriends got together for a girls nite out and decided to give Cafe Mezza a try. We all brought our favorite bottle of wine and were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was very courteous and friendly and made his recommendations. We started with an appetizer they call a shrimp campechana and a spinach dip that were both the best we have ever had in town. We then each had something different so we could share. We had a grilled chicken salad that had green apples, walnuts, blue cheese and mixed greens that was exceptional. We also had by far the best burger in town. We tried the blackened fish platter and the special with salmon. I am not real big on fish, but the pecan crust on the salmon was a great touch. We tried to save space for dessert but it was just so,so much food. The portions were very generous and the presentation was phenomonal. As if that wasn't enough the prices are very, very reasonable. We loved the fact that we could bring our wine in for a corking fee of $5.00 but we fell inlove with the food. We will definitely be back for more and this time we will save room for dessert. Pros: friendly staff, great atmosphere Cons: too much food more

Amazing Fusion of American & Mediterranean food Ever! 11/21/2006

All I can say is "" YUMMY"" Pros: Every Thing. more

Large portions and very good food especially their vegetable platter! 11/21/2006

I have eaten here twice with my husband and have had a good meal both times. There was a little miscommunication the first time but not too serious. The vegetable platter is stupendous as well as their chicken kabobs. You could probably split two meals between three people with appetizers. Now that I have discovered you can bring your own wine we will definitely return with our own bottle! Pros: Great vegetable platter more

flavorful, pleasant, clean, decently priced 11/9/2006

I read this on citysearch a couple days ago and decided to go with a friend of mine. We came in after lunch so it was pretty empty so we sat outside in their patio. I ordered the smoked turkey melt with potato salad and my friend ordered the garden pasta with grilled chicken. I am pretty impressed. The food came in a timely fashion, they gave my friend's pasta A LOT of grilled chicken. The chicken was tender and had a lot of flavor! my sandwich came warm on ciabatta and it wasn't hard or crumbly. The potato salad was really good too! The service was attentive & they didn't mind splitting the check! Its healthy, filling food. They incorporate a lot of veggies into the menu and everything was well under $15 except for the sirlions, but that's understandable. The only thing i was disappointed in was that I was looking for tapas and they didn't have any! Its okay though, I'm definitely coming back! Pros: decently priced, flavorful food! Cons: no tapas more

Excellent Food and exceptional service! 10/19/2006

What a find! Even my bland-loving chicken-fried-steak-eating husband enjoyed the food and ambiance. The food is gourmet american but with flavor and lovely presentation. Everything is very reasonably priced AND we drank our own bottle of wine. The mixed grill kabobs (filet, chicken, kabob) were cooked perfectly and the rice was light and sweetly flavored. The husband had the chicken parmesan but felt the angel hair pasta had too much ""flavor"". Even the free tortillia chips are made fresh. We'll definitely be back. Pros: Great Food, BYOB, outdoor patio more

Best grilled vegetable platter around 10/2/2006

The potatoes are perfect, the grill is just right. I swear, it's like they have some kind of secret device that *pretends* to grill the food, it's so good. I don't see how it can be so consistently great. Fresh, crisp vegetables with perfect little grill marks. Love it! more

I'd describe this restaurant as Mediterranean Fusion. The chicken was extremely tasty and tender. The portions were huge. The atmosphere was chill. The service was polite and attentive. I am a big fan on the BYOW policy. I'll definitely be frequenting here again. Pros: BYOW, Food, Service more

Hidden Treasure 5/29/2006

After reading wonderful reviews in the Houston Chronicle and in Texas Monthly, my Wife and I desided to to give it a try. We had the specials that night ""Balckened Fish with Shrimp Platter and Beef Tenderloin Pasta"" And let me tell you my fish was perfectly seasoned and blackened with unmistakably peferct taste, My wife's tenderloin just melted in her mouth and the pasta was exceptional. The ambience was a wonderful picture out of magazine, the restaurant is very cozy and spotless clean, not to mention the staff was very attentive and helpful. The only thing that did not make sense to us,is why Cafe Mezza is not packed?? We recommend this little Cafe to everyone who likes to have tasty wonderful dishes without paying too much $$$$ for it. I almost forgot to mention another positve point thier B.Y.O.B policy with NO corking fee. Pros: CLEAN, COZY, DELICIOUS more

A GREAT place for Wine Lovers like Myself! 11/26/2005

Cafe Mezza because of its ""no corkage, BYOB"" and, as a big wine drinker, this was music to my ears, but I had NO IDEA the quality of the food, service & prices. We had 6 adults, 4 visiting from Florida, my wife & I. They liked it MUCH more than the place we had gone the night before!! We drank 6 bottles of wine and started with a few orders of Hummus & Bruchetta, priced well at $3.95 each. We sat for about 2 hours just talking and enjoying eachothers company, later ordering fantastic dinners. It was a great night! We spent over $700 the night before and at Cafe Mezza we could barely get the bill to $100 and the food, etc. was better! We even had dessert!! You have customers for LIFE! Pros: Prices, BYOB, Good aParking more

Best food in Houston! 9/24/2005

Of all the places I have eaten, in Houston and other cities in the US, I would have to say that Cafe Mezza is the absolute best. The food is excellent, the restaurant is spotless, and the service is of the highest quality. I try to make it here about twice a week. Pros: Great food, Good prices, Open late more

My New Favorite Casual Restaurant 9/14/2005

I've already eaten here 4 or 5 times in the past few months. This place has everything I am looking for in an area restaurant to frequent: great place for hanging out (coffee bar, great dips and apps, open SUPER late), a diverse menu, big portions of healthy food, BYOB, nice big patio, you order at the counter so it's convenient for lunch, comfortable atmosphere... This is really nice food at casual prices. Try their grilled entrees and desserts. The Red Pepper and Pomegrante dip is great, too. This place is also great for VEGETARIANS. Pros: patio, late hours, kid-friendly more

Delicious, Affordable, Friendly 9/4/2005

I found this restaurant on Citysearch and was very pleased. My boyfriend and I wanted Italian/Mediterranean food for a reasonable price and Mezza more than fulfilled our expectations. You order at the counter then they bring you your food, so there's no tip required, but I suggest tipping--the staff there were more than accomodating and deserve at least a 10% nod. Our pasta dishes were yummy and the ingredients were fresh. And to make it even better, the prices were affordable: $7-15 for everything, and less expensive for sandwiches and kids. The atmosphere is clean, probably because most of the decor looks brand new and I don't think the restaurant is very old. We didn't capitalize on this, but you can B.Y.O.B and there's no corking fee. I definitely recommend this restaurant for people looking for a casual dinner with food that could pass in any fancy italian restaurant. Pros: sleek, friendly, delicious more

We will be back for as long as we live in Houston, and you Cafe Mezza keep up the good work!!!! Pros: fresh food, clean restaurant, awesome desserts more

User review by lindseyelhattab 8/21/2005

Wow! All I can say is this place really exceeded my expectations. I had heard of a new cafe in town but I had no idea how delicious it would be. We came on Friday after the movies (its' open until 4am). We weren't really expecting that much that late. But the food was fresh, delicious and had huge portions for low prices. My husband is on the Southbeach diet and was able to pick several things from the menu. He actually felt like he was cheating it tasted so good! We're definitely coming back--especially after we found out we could bring our own bottle of wine without a corking fee. Pros: Late hours, BYOB, great food more
