CON ARTISTS AND LIERS 12/1/2011

This gym is full of liers. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR DEBT/BANK CARD! They accidently over charged both myself and my girlfriend. Over $1200.00 was missing from our accounts. Their response. It's not in our system, talk to your bank. Just open your eyes and read all the negative reviews. That doesn't just happen by accident. They lie lie lie. I was told I could do a month of personal training, then I was told I had to commit to 3 months after I signed their stupid contract. Then I was told I needed a PT cancellation form and only the trainer could give me one. The trainer said there was no such form and I didn't need one. Then the manager got involved, then the Regional manager got involved, then the Regional director did nothing. Still awaiting my $1200 refund which judging by these other comments looks like these thieves get away with this stuff all the time. And by the way, when I did receive personal training, the trainer was always 10-15 mins late, telling me to go warm up for 15mins. I only got half my sessons. Make sure you check your towels before wiping your face, I'm pretty sure I saw what appeared to be a blood stain or fecal matter on one of their ""clean towels"". They will lie to your face and take you for a ride with compassion in their eyes. Do not think you are any different. As a note, Meridia's Sports Clubs/Bodies in Motion is changing their name to DavidBartonGym. Someone needs to file a class action lawsuit against these criminals! more

STRUGGLING TO RISE TO LEVEL OF ""LOW-END"" GYM 10/26/2011

Century City Meridian Bodies in Motion- NOT A HIGH END (OR EVEN MEDIOCRE) GYM This gym is changing ownership but NOTHING else. They sweet talk you and charge as if they are a ""higher-end"" gym- and will increase rates when under new ownership even more- but they are not high-end in any way shape or form. Aside from the very obvious (horribly dangerous equipment, very lazy and unmotivated staff members, poor selection of classes) there are SO many other problems with the facility itself. There is a HORRIBLE stench in the ladies locker room (it honestly smells like someone is cooking rotten onion soup in the toilets- no joke- like rotten onions). It is also acknowledged that there is a HAZARDOUS MOLD PROBLEM in the ceilings (which have been torn off). Keep in mind that this is not just some office space or mall you pass through, these are small enclosed rooms where you crowd in with many people- all breathing very heavily for an hour straight, no ventilation, and mold spores abounding. They can slap on new paint and make some cosmetic changes that may look pretty but unless someone really cares to correct some major problems with the building, STAY AWAY. It amazes me that nobody has called the health department on this dangerous, smelly, lame DUMP. more

DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR DEBIT/CREDIT CARD INFO 9/20/2010

I have never been soo upset with the unprofessionalism at this place. It takes alot for me to take the time out to complain about an establishment and when I do .....believe me it's HORRIBLE.\r \r I have seen x-regular clients at other gyms by passing by they to felt it was time to move on. Seems like their guests are getting smaller so they decide to over charge the guests they do have. After noticing an overage on my account I asked them credit me - their response = WE CAN GIVE YOU A CREDIT FOR NEXT MONTHS DUES OR IT CAN TAKE 3-4 WEEKS FOR A BANK CREDIT.......sorry ....WHAT ??!!???? NO you made the mistake so you correct it.......their reply = AHH SORRY - TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT\r \r I am no longer a member of this club THANK GOD and the drama with this place is continuing trying to get that ANNUAL TOWEL fee refunded -\r \r MY ADVISE - STAY CLEAR OF CENTURY CITY - NOT NICE PEOPLE !!!! There are other gym/clubs in the area that I am sure would love to give you comfortable feeling ...\r \r If you do join - my suggestion is to go to one of the grocery stores and pick up one of those RELOADABLE VISA / MC debit cards - otherwise they will screw up your bank account....seriously !!! more

Liars and Pure Evil 3/15/2010

This business is evil. I blew out my knee and was unable to walk for weeks. They refused to cancel my membership without forcing me to show up in person despite a medical note from my doctor. I hobble in to cancel and they misrepresented the cancellation as a ""freeze"" that restarted 8 months later. The fees restarted again and I did not notice until after the second month when the charges hit my credit card bill. They again refuse to cancel me without a 30 day notice period. They will hide behind their contract and lie to you to nickel and dime you. They do not treat their customers in good faith. Drive further if you have to, but it is very difficult to cancel your membership here and they will lie to you to be able to keep charging your card. Cons: Disingenuous staff and membership policy more

beware if you cancelled your membership 2/18/2010

if you cancelled your membership in meridian sportsclub make sure you let your bank know that your removing the automatic payment coz they will continue charging you.. more

Mislead by Irma Vargas 5/19/2009

My wife and I visited Meridian’s Bodies in Motion January of 2009 in a New Years attempt to be more motivated to work out. We signed up and then went for our first workout in the Pasadena Club off Arroyo. I wish I ‘d worked out first because I would have never signed. I mentioned this to Irma after finishing my 1st workout. She said that I should give it a chance and if I still felt the same that she would “work with me.” I thought that I might be over reacting so I told her that I would give it a chance and in a month I'd let her know what I thought. She said that if I have any issues to just come and see her. So a month went by and I still didn't like the facility. Some it had to do with the atmosphere but most had to do with the old limited equipment that was biomechanically unsound. I just felt at this point that I was going to be less motivated to workout than I desired so I called Irma, on the phone, and we discussed how I was feeling and that I was still disappointed. Irma still insisted that when I made my decision that she would ""work with me"" to resolve everything. I took here for her word but didn't realize that she was being cunning and misleading with her choice of words, at least not yet. So my wife, at this point, was still training with Adrian at the club so, instead of canceling before 30days I allowed the memberships to continue and the monthly to continue being deducted from our account. I had stopped going to the facility for several months prior to the conclusion of my wife's training with Adrian in May of 2009. Now I felt it was time. I was less fit than before signing up with Irma at Bodies in Motion and mentally it was taking a small toll on my self-perception and day-to-day ""just feeling good."" My wife drove to the club and was told by Irma that there was no way out of the contract at this point. I then drove to the facility and talked to Irma myself, discussing what her and I had talked about the very first day and then just 30days after signing up about ""working with me"" when I made my decision. Like anyone confronted with being misleading or just plain lying Irma bounced all around trying to tell me what she ""really meant"" when she said that she would ""work with me"". I reiterated that from the very 1st day I was unhappy but, I would give the facility a try noting, that Irma said on the 1st day, ""that if I have any issues to come talk with her"" and she will ""work with me."" Irma insisted that there was nothing that she could do at this point and canceling the membership was not an option unless I could prove I was moving and would be 25 miles from the nearest affiliated facility. I told Irma that if she would have told me on the very 1st day that I had to make a ""clear cut"" decision to stay or to cancel I would have canceled and walked away on day one, after my 1st workout. I'm not sure even still what Irma meant when she said she'd ""work with me"" But I do know now it had nothing to do with what she intended it to sound like. So I’m still paying for a membership, that my wife and I will never utilize, until January 2010, which will be $704 dollars later. I feel really stupid not walking away on day one and equally stupid that I trusted Irma Vargas. I have not had work since March 7th 2009 and my wife and I are just barely getting by paying all our bills. Having to pay both of our monthly dues at a Health Club that neither of us are using and, at this point will not go back just because of the circumstances with Irma, really hits harder than it should. Sincerely, Mislead more

Worst Gym Ever 8/29/2008

I joined Bodies in Motion in Pasadena, because it was close to my house. From the beginning I had to put up with one annoying thing after another. The women's locker room stank of something worse than dirty socks. When they did clean, it was always right in the middle of a workout. There I was huffing and puffing and inhaling noxious fumes. Then someone got the bright idea to perfume the air with some chemical scent that puffed out through the vents directly over the treadmills. When they fixed the roof tar dripped down from the ceiling onto some of the step equipment and when I went to tell the staff they just shrugged their shoulders. I got a similar response when I went to ask about the disappearing core training equipment and plastic stands to hold my book on the treadmill. Apparently they had been stolen by some member, which is a good indication of the type of clientele, and I was told that the corporate office didn't want to pay to replace them. The corporate office, it turned out is not only cheap, they are inefficient and unprofessional. They wouldn't know customer service if it came up and bit them! I followed their guidelines for taking a leave due to a high risk pregnancy. I submitted a doctor's note and paid the fee, but they continued to bill me for four extra months. One year later, I still had not received my refund. An untold number of phone calls later, I was told my claim was being denied. I still don't know why, because I can't get anyone to return my phone calls. Then they raised their monthly fee and didn't notify me ahead of time. I've now switched to a different gym and am only too happy to drive out of my way to work out in a clean environment, with a professional staff that understands the meaning of of integrity. Pros: Plenty of equipment, Debra the kickboxing instructor was great Cons: Low-life clientele, clueless staff members, no customer service, disappearing equipment more

Bodies in Motion 5/4/2007

I joined with great expectations and I was sorely let down. While it is true that the place is clean and the equipment is modern - that is pretty much where the benefits end. The cardio class variety is poor - at best. Unless you are a serious kickboxing fan, don't expect to have a lot of options to select from. The staff is not super friendly, or motivated. The daycare is so pricy - it becomes irrelevant. Yoga and Pilate classes are repetitive, so they can't work as a replacement to a Yoga/Pilates establishment. They used to have a lot of dance classes, but they were mostly eliminated. As for the machines and equipment - don't expect to find a cardio machine during peak hours. If you are not really interested in the cardio equipment(since I doubt you will be able to get a machine during peak hours), you will find that they have a great variety and selection of nautilus and free weights.\r \r Basically, the place has a lot of potential. The staff needs to get motivated to serve, and more cardio classes (even with just the normal variety of other clubs) are needed. Pros: Great facility, clean and lots of free weights Cons: Less than friendly staff, lack of variety in cardio classes - not worth the price tag. more
