I went to Gemmete several times for eyebrow waxings, the quality of the eyebrow waxing itself wasn't bad, but the customer service was horrible. The staff was rude and made ignorant comments. I also got my hair cut there once and got the worst haircut I have ever received, however the stylist was very nice, she just gave me a bad haircut. The worst part of that experience, however, was the interaction with management while getting the problems with my haircut fixed. I didn't make a big deal out of the poor haircut, as they agreed to see me and fix it for free when I contacted them. When I actually went in to get it fixed, I was sent to see the manager who evaluates and fixes any problems with their work. I found her to be rude and condescending. She was argumentative and dismissive of the issues that I found with my haircut, despite the fact that she even found flaws with it that I had not even noticed. more

I have been a client at Gemmette Hair Studio for quite some time now during my last appointment I noticed a handful of the usual girls I'd always see were not there. Being my nosey self, I asked my stylist where everyone was. I was told that one of the girls had opened up a salon and took about 6 people with her on top of taking/ trying to take a lot of clients...and didn't say a thing until that salon was pretty much ready to be up and running. I was disgusted after hearing this. Jeff, the owner of Gemmette Hair Studio, is a wonderful guy, and is great at what he does. He didn't deserve what happened. BUT, on the bright side, he has an amazing new staff. If you thought Gemmette was great before, wait until you see them now. A change for the best is exactly what i'll call it. Always recommended Gemmette Hair Studio to everyone and will continue to do so even more now! more

Awhile back I felt my life was at rock bottom, and nothing I did could pick me up from my slump. I heard 2 women talking about this salon at work called Gemmette Hair Studio, so I asked them where it was and decided to try it out. I thought maybe a mini make over could make me feel a little better. I walked into the salon and from the moment I arrived I felt the warmth, I was greeted by 2 of the nicest girls. They asked if I wanted a drink, so I went with the cappuccino. It was delicious!! Then I met my hairstylist and we talked about what we wanted to do to my hair, by the time I was done I looked like a different person. (In a good way) I was in shock because I looked so great!!! It was exactlly what I needed and def got me out of my funk. I was glad that I took a chance and decided to go to Gemmette, I will forever be hooked to this salon. If you want the best then they are it!!! They brought me back to life. :) more

I just heard that Melanie and the other girls are at Mia Passione near Remedi Spa. Thank god I was able to find Melanie. She is amazing, the only reason I went to Gemmette in the first place. more

Went to Gemmette for the first time today and it was amazing! I was a little nervous at first...normally don't go to a new salon unless recommended by a friend. However, after checking out their website and online reviews, I decided to take a chance and sooooo glad I did. They were awesome...very attentive from the moment I walked in. I was really impressed and will definitely recommend Gemmette Hair Studio! more

I have been to this salon twice so far and both times was getting hair done for big parties-one formal style and a blow-out. Have had two different stylists and both were amazing. Not only are they super nice, but my hair came out amazing, I was not the least bit disappointed! Worth every penny. I am planning on making an appointment here for color as well. Love the fact that they give you coffee/tea/lemon water upon coming in, a free scalp or neck massage as they wash your hair...you walk out of the salon feeling like a million bucks without spending it! Definitely recommend this place, it's a hidden gem on the island where you have either super expensive salons with rude service or really cheap salons where your hair comes out looking exactly like what you paid for it. They're open Sunday afternoons, which is awesome because you can get your hair done before the workweek! :) more

Very satisfied with both the service & the price. Stephanie cut & styled my hair beautifully - I have received numerous compliments on my hair since visiting the salon. There is a broad spectrum of ages in the clientele, it's not specifically geared to the twenty-something group. The scalp massage offered during the shampoo is heavenly! I will definitely be returning here. more

Several colleagues recommended Gemmette to me -- I always admired their hairstyles so I gave it a shot. Am I ever glad I did. I have been going there since September and will never change salons again. I did not request a particular stylist when I called the first time, and I was assigned Michelle. She is terrific. She listens to what I want and has been right on target. She is not trying to impose upon me what she prefers -- she pays attention -- close attention -- to what I want and what works for me. \r \r My hair always looks terrific when I leave the salon and I am able to manage it myself at home quite easily. \r \r The atmosphere in the salon is top-notch. Attention to detail right down to the magnificent copper ceiling tiles to enjoy while you are leaning back to have your hair washed. As soon as you walk into the salon, someone takes your coat and hangs it for you while offering you a beverage. You are treated to a massage when your hair is washed -- you are able to choose from several types of massages -- I always select a scalp massage. . . so relaxing! The music is also soothing -- no loud blasting noise as is common in some other establishments. \r \r As you can see, I cannot say enough good things about this truly lovely salon. I hope Gemmette and Michelle are available to me for many, many years to come. more

Everyone is very professional. Jeff is building a class business in a relaxed atmosphere with a very caring and accomplished young staff. He has a team who enjoys working together and playing together and it shows in their work. more

Apparently this was only a secret to me. This salon is sooooooo amazing. From the owner Jeff to all the other stylists to the whole entire staff--they are simply the best. They are talented--warm--compassionate people who are the exemplars of professional respect and exhibit love for their craft. I LOVE THEM ALL. They saved my hair and it is just amazing the amount of respect and admiration they have for each other and their clients. Better than any salon I have been to anywhere. I absolutely love it here. The staff is warm, friendly, and always willing to go out of their way to do their best. Jeff has been doing my hair for years - he always knows exactly what to do, and what works best for me. I cannot say enough nice things about him or the staff. Over the years a have had my colour and cuts done at high end salons in NYC. When my daughter was getting married, Jeff was highly recommended. I took a chance and have been happier. Jeff is serious about his work and gives his clients his full attention. He knows exactly what will work with each client's skin tone, hair and lifestyle. If consistent, amazing service is what you like, Gemmette Hair Studio is where to find it. I have been to every stylist in the studio and have never been disappointed. Jeff recommended I cut bangs, which I hadn't gotten in over 15 years. I was a little skeptical at first, but trusted his knowledge and experience; the bangs have lifted 15 years from my face. I've never gotten so many complliments on my hair. It's hard to find a salon where you can sit in any stylist's chair and not have to look in the mirror to ""make sure"" your hair is right. Although, the location and salon are very nice, I was very disappointed by my experience. I went to receive a make up application and a hair styling for a wedding. My makeup came out beautiful and I was pleasantly surprised. My hair on the other hand was exactly what I did not want. I brought in numerous pictures and thought I thoroughly explained how I hoped it would look. Unfortunately, his vision was very different then mine and I was very disappointed by the final outcome but, was willing to suck it up. Once I discovered that the price for all of it came close to $150 I was horrified. I wouldn't mind paying that price for what I wanted but not for something I was so unhappy with. Make sure you find out what level your hairdresser is to have a better understanding of pricing and don't expect the designers or seniors to be better then the junior stylists. I chose this salon based on the previous reviews but now feel they may have been written by employees or friends of the salon. Pros: MY MAKEUP CAME PERFECT. Cons: NOT WORTH THE MONEY. more

I recently received the latest issue of the clipper magazine and came across a coupon for $100.00 off a set of eyelash extensions. I called to inquire about it and was a little hesitant to going because of the recommended maintenance. My daughter persuaded me to go and she went too. The process is a little long but it is so well worth it, we dont even need mascara anymore! The staff is great and so is this service and I would highly recommend this to anyone! more

I love everything about Gemmette Hair salon. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I have myv hair done by Melissa, she always does an amazing job. The massage is so nice that you get to pick. The entire experience is very relaxing. The salon is so nicely decorated too! more
