Amazing Melty Goodness...Yumm! Fun Restaurant and Friendly Staff! Can't wait to go back! 10/9/2008

I just went today for lunch and can't wait to go back again! This was our third time (in about a week and a half)! So far I have had the Original Grilled Cheese, the Cheddar, Ham and Apple Butter, the Tuna Melt, the Quesadilla (OMG!), the hot Peanut Butter and Jelly, and some of my husbands Caprese Sandwich. EVERYTHING we have had so far was amazing and it's not greasy at all! The sandwiches come with a homemade pickle - and even than is SO good! They have lots of specialty drinks and the usual stuff (diet coke = me) too. The owner, Ryan, is often there and he is such a nice friendly guy and the staff is always helpful and speedy. It's fun to sit outside in the cute, trendy part of Culver and watch people walk by while eating my Melty Goodness. Ahh, bliss! Pros: Amazing, Non-Greasy Comfort Food in a Cute Area with Easy Parking Cons: Short hours (11-3pm) and closed on Sunday :( more

Great, simple food, but at a cost 5/21/2008

The food itself is good. I mean, it's difficult to screw up a grilled cheese, and theirs is pretty tasty. They sell coke in glass bottles, which is just awesome. Overall, a cool little place. The only problem is the pricing. I understand why they charge what they do, but...damn. 8 bucks for a grilled cheese makes my wallet hurt. Pros: Awesome for curing that grilled cheese craving Cons: Price. more

Really good grilled cheddar, ham & apple and tomato soup 5/14/2008

Two of my coworkers and I decided to eat at Meltdown today for lunch. We got there around 12:45 p.m. and beat the lunch rush by minutes. We ordered our food at the counter and grabbed a seat before it was too late. The place is small, so big groups are not recommended. Also, try to get to this place before the big lunch rush, which seemed to be around 1:00 p.m. Since it's only open from 11:30 until 3:00 p.m. it's hard to find a good window of time to visit this place, but we got lucky around 12:45 p.m. I ordered the Partial Meltdown (which is a 1/2 sandwich with your choice of soup or salad) and had the Cheddar, Ham and Apple (which is sharp cheddar, ham, and apple butter on sourdough) and the Tomato Soup. I enjoyed every bit of my lunch, and for $6.95 (plus tax) it satisfied my hunger. I would have given this place 5 stars, but sadly I think the grilled cheese at BottleRock beats out the one I had today, and plus this place is only open limited hours, so that's no fun when you are craving grilled cheese. Pros: Partial Meltdown = filling Cons: limited open hours, limited seating more

I'm hooked... 4/20/2008

MeltDown is one of several restaurants in downtown Culver City. Since I found this place a couple months ago I've made a point to go as often as possible. I love the simplicity and creativity of the menu, and the food is always consistent. I almost always get the brie & apricot melt, which is to die for! This is a great place to grab a quick lunch or afternoon snack. Most of the tables are outside so you can enjoy the sunshine and view of city hall. My only complaint is that they are only open for lunch. Definitely try this place if you get the chance! Pros: quick, simple menu, consistent food Cons: only open for lunch more

Simply Yet Yummy 3/8/2008

True, the sandwiches seem very simple and if you really tried, you could make them yourself at home. But really, do you have the time to go to gourmet shops to buy the same ingredients then go home and actually prepare the sandwiches yourself? I don't. I ate here a couple of months ago and since it was 2:30 pm on a weekday, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. I got the brie & apricot and absolutely loved it! The only thing is, the sandwich seemed smaller than usual, but whatever. I can't wait to go back! Pros: good ingredients, yummy sandwiches, ample parking Cons: only open 4 hours/day, not open sundays, small sandwiches more

A bit pricey for two slices of bread, butter and cheese... 1/14/2008

So I asked myself, "how can this place stay in business open only 4 hours per day?" I soon realized that their business model- one in which mediocre food is sold for very high prices- seems to be really working for them. I had sandwich and soup for about $12. Albeit the sandwich is tasty, it is not worth that kind of money. Now that I have tried it, I don't think I will go back. Try once, and you'll probably feel the same. Pros: Culver City is nice, sandwich is pretty good Cons: Price! more

fancy grilled cheese - YUM! 8/23/2007

i finally tried this breakfast and lunch spot in culver city. it does get crowded and there aren't a lot of seats inside or outside. but, take out works out just fine. they have a huge selection of grilled cheeses -- all of them fancy. i tried the classic three cheese with sharp cheddar, meunster, fontina on sourdough with smoked ham. it was delicious. all the cheeses melted nicely and the ham was generous. it was seriously finger licking good (move over, kfc!). the only down side is that it is not cheap. for this meal, it cost me about $9+. but, it did fill me up. i'd probably go back tho and try the other melts... just because i am a s*cker for grilled cheese. Pros: grilled cheese Cons: price more
