I heard so much about this store that I had to check it out for myself. If you are new to tow, you should know that the general perception of locals is that if "you can't find it at McGuckin's, it doesn't exist." That's probably pretty close to the truth, for this store seems to have it all. Calling it simply a "hardware store" is a gross under-representation for it not only has every widget and gadget imaginable, it stocks bigger items as well. They even have a kitchen and bath design center on-site. They boast over 200,000 items and I'm pretty sure that's accurate. And their staff prides themselves on topnotch customer service--they can find anything i this huge place and THEN they can tell you what it's for. The only caution--plan on spending more time than you think when you get there! more

Need Some Hardware 2/18/2006

McGuckin's has it all! Any tool, household gadget or appliance you can think of or ever need, they have! It is a homeowners dream come true! The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Be prepared to pay for this service! It is very expensive, but they do have so many unique things, that it will be worth it to you! more

McGuckin's is not your father's hardware store. This store has it all, and it's a misnomer to refer to it merely as a hardware store. Sure, they have hardware, but they also happen to carry everything else, too. It's too much to list it all here, but it's safe to say that if you were looking for pretty much anything, and you didn't want to leave Boulder, I could send you to McGuckin's and you'd find it. Also, they staff the place with armies of helpful, blue and green vested individuals. You can't swing a dead branch in McGuckin's without hitting a smiling customer service representative. Only downside: more pricey than Dad's hardware store. more

A Boulder Icon 8/8/2005

If you need it, McGuckin's got it. Seriously! It's WAAAYYY more than just hardware. This store is jampacked with everything from dog bones to houseplants, kitchenware and camping gear. The place is teeming with green-aproned employees to offer friendly assistance. And you might think a mom and pop store like this is way more expensive than the chains, but I've found some really great deals there. McGuckin is loved by the locals and is becoming a Boulder icon. more

  • It all began in 1955 when our company?s namesake, a rugged, avid fisherman named Bill McGuckin, opened the doors of McGuckin Hardware. Employing four people in four departments, his success was based on his belief in personalized service, selection and first-hand experience.In 1960, Dave Hight became a partner in McGuckin Hardware with his father-in-law, Bill. Together they sought to create a quality hardware store with a reputation for excellent service and selection. Working from this solid base, Dave has carried on McGuckin Hardware?s dedication to service since Bill?s death in 1966. The company has continued to grow ever since.The store has moved several times, though never more than a block away from it's original location. In 1978, we moved into our present home ? which was expanded in the mid 1990's.McGuckin Hardware currently employs around an average of 250 people on its 60,000+ square foot sales floor. Our 55,000 square foot Distribution Center is located in far north Boulder. We average about 315 employees for all operations. Indeed, McGuckin Hardware has grown to service all of our customers' needs.
