Worst

We only go to the Mayan for our daughter's birthdays, and mostly for the show. The food was horrible last year, and last night it was better. not great, just better. You would ...

I don't get it 8/13/2005

We went for a late lunch so we wouldn't have to wait. Walked through the door and we were told to grab a menu and order at the end of the line, (which had no one in it). We felt rushed but ordered our dishes and told to proceed to the next line, (which did have people in it). I then realized that we were about to pick up our food like in a cafeteria. Waited far too long, then followed a server with our food to the highest level, quite a hike. The dive show was dumb. 2 skinny guys doing 2-3 dives each every half hour. Food was okay (far from great) but I felt like it was so much work to get it, I'll never go back. I can't even imagine why anyone would go at busy times, it's just not worth the bother. Pros: kids liked it Cons: stair climb, ordering, waiting more

Awesome!! 7/30/2005

The food was great! I want another taco!! When hubby requested extra condiments, the server brought them right away. The diving shows were great, and we really got a kick out of one of them (very amusing). We had a good table, but everytime a show would start, our table would be surrounded by people who didn't get good tables. It made it awkward to eat with all those people standing over you. I didn't really like the cafeteria style either. What's so hard about just taking us to our tables and letting all the servers (and it semed like there were a million) bring the food to you? The free sopapillas at the end were an excellent touch. Would it hurt to have a specialty drink and dessert menu att he table though? Otherwise, we had a great time!!!! Pros: Cliff divers, great food, great family place Cons: Cafeteria Style, no menu of specialty, drinks and desserts more

Bring back the Old Mayan 6/23/2005

The ""improved Mayan"" now features: horrible cafeteria-syle food; servers who are useless; alternative music at a mexican restaurant. It's like fast-food / cafeteria-style dining: you order in the lobby, wait for yucky food (menu is 1/3 the size of the previous menu), then they carry your food to the table (if there are four of you, you carry your own drinks because they don't fit on the tray). After that, you get bad service to boot. (Why don't they give you condiments when you order? Why is your ""server's"" only job condiments and drinks?) This is really expensive/yucky fast food. I will never go back after our latest experience, and it is sad, because we used to really like going there. Pros: cliff divers, tree-house seating, waterfall Cons: order in lobby, unauthentic music, awful service more

Never Again 5/2/2005

I set up a group luncheon here and was very embarrassed! With a group of 10 I asked for a table with a good view of the show. We arrived 30 minutes after opening and were the first group there. We were seated right under an amplifier and to the side of the show! We had to get up and walk around the wall to see anything and we couldn't have conversation because of the noise. Our beverage order was totally messed up. THIS PLACE IS DEFINATELY NOT AN 8.8. Don't waste your time or your money. If you want cafeteria style food and service save yourself a lot of time and money and go to Taco Bell. more

Don't Waste Your Time 3/19/2005

They told us the wait would be 20 minutes. We waited just because we wanted to see the dive show (not great). That wait was just to get in a long line to order. And then you get to wait in ANOTHER line (25 minutes!) just to get your food served to you cafeteria-style. Then you get a waitress. Then wait to get promised condiments. The only good thing about our visit was that our waitress was incredibly nice. I felt bad for all the mothers with little kids who were waiting in that line. This is a horrible way to make diners dine. Why can't they let you have a table and bring you your food? I don't know why people spend so much money to eat like this. It certainly wasn't cheap for all the work you had to do just to get a meal. Pros: Decorations, Wait Staff Cons: Waiting Time, Price, Food Quality more

HORRIBLE! 2/1/2005

I cannot believe the new system of the Mayan! They herd you in and out like cows! They will not let you substitute anything! What you see on the menu is what you get! They have cut their shows in half also! What a terrible waste of creativity and space on this! It has the potential of being a wonderful place, Larry just can't seem to get it right with his restaurants! Cons: food, service more

Horrible service and food 1/24/2005

Don't go to the Mayan, they are changing their way of dining. Noone know how to work the computers and they can't adjust your meal, if don't want Beans your out of luck because they don't have an option on the computer to add or delete an item. Poor service for a large group, never got drinks or chips. Food took over an hour to recieve and it was cold! Would not recommend to anyone. Cons: , Bad Food, Dumb cashiers more

Yummy 9/28/2004

I absolutely Love the Mayan. I go there everytime I go to Sandy. They have the best service, and their waiters/waitresses go all the way to make sure you are satisfied. the food is really good and reasonably priced. Everyone I've ever taken there has loved it. The Divers are HOT Pros: inexpensive, yummy, good entertainment more

Good Show - Ordinary Food 7/11/2004

We went there for my friends birthday - Disneyland-like atmosphere and show presentation - Average to Poor Mexican food and so-so service. They made a fuss over my friend - making him wear a huge sombrero and singing but that was the highlight of the occasion and we never have to return. Go early the avoid the crowds Pros: diving show, Location Cons: , service more

NEVER AGAIN 7/11/2004

We went there for my birthday. It was horrible! We had to wait in line, which i didn't mind. We were stuffed into some corner of the room that was 1/2 empty, the diving show wasn't that entertaining, they were really slow at everything they did. My food was cold, tasted like something that had been left out for a while. I ordered a specialty drink, it tasted like kool-aid mixed w/ shaved ice. it was disgusting. Never will i go again. Pros: Atmosphere, Good parking Cons: , Poor Service, Hard to see the show more

NEVER AGAIN 7/8/2004

When we walked in the hostess was very busy talking with other hosts/waiters .Then another host showed us to the table and we were running to keep up. Showed us to a table and left . About 5-10 min. later our waiter showed up We ordered fajitas , tables around us were empty ,except the one in the corner with employees sitting . When our food finally came the plate with the lettuce was sitting on the beans and rice , and very cold . We were given no plates and we didnt see our waiter for at least 15 minutes , we had to use our napkins as our plate. When our waiter came back we askedfor the check and he said ok , and then went to sit down at the corner table to talk with the other employee . While we got to watch and wait . Pros: location to movies, good divers, pretty waterfall Cons: , horrible hosts, cold food more

Mayan experiance 11/4/2003

I hate admit that I have been to the Mayan now 5 times and everytime I leave I swear I will never return. I had escaped from the Mayan for over 3 years then my six year old choose to go to the Mayan for his B-day and as always it was the worst food I have ever eaten, this time I wasn't able to choke it down. I do not know why with the money that they Mayan brings in they cannot invest in good quality mexican food with (I know I am asking a lot) FLAVOR. Pros: atmospire, close to movie theate Cons: food, food, food more

Larry Miller is the Chef 5/7/2003

Ok, if you like warmed up Microwave burritos here you go. The dive show is redundant but my kid though it was interested the first time. Food stinks but hey it's close to the movie theater and if your a Utah local if you know what I mean you won't know the difference. more

Mayan Mayhem 5/7/2003

Great food, music, and atmosphere. Something for the entire family. Head in early and you may beat the rush otherwise prepare for a long wait, but it's well worth it. Where else in Utah will you find indoor cliff divers and talking animals? You can eat at ground level or in the treehouse. Not a bad seat in the place. You'll want to spend at least an hour here just to catch the entire show. Never a dull moment at the Mayan! Pros: Good entertainment, Central location, Excellent food Cons: Bit of a line more

The Food is Better than it used to be! 2/25/2003

The food has improved a lot since it first opened. We have continued to go because my kids LOVE the entertainment. The atmosphere is definitely a fun change from the usual placemat to color on. The kids prefer this to any restaurant. So I am glad that the food is getting better. Also, the wait isn't always too long. You just have to know when to go. Pros: Atmosphere, Divers, Table Service Flags Cons: Lines sometimes, Blocked Views-sometim, Prices rising more

save your money 2/22/2003

After eating at the Mayan and being extremely dissapointed with the food, I vowed I would never eat there again. Well, I've been dragged there another 4 times in the last 2 years because of family pressure. The food has not improved. If only they would have less people walking around making balloon animals and singing, and hire a chef!! I ordered an enchilada and they brought out a cold tortilla with some beans and cheese inside. YUCK! Pros: divers Cons: Loud, Terrible food, Cold Food more

Good but slow 11/13/2002

We went to the Mayan. There was good food, good entertainment, and good atmosphere. The only problem was just the line, but if you have people there to visit with you that wasn't even bad. Pros: food, entertainment, ambiance Cons: lines more

food sucks 10/25/2002

We went on a Saturday afternoon, when it was not very busy. The food was very quick and the waitress was very flirty but the food sucked! I had a cheese enchalada and it was cold. The rest of the table thought their food was gross as well. The only good thing is it entertained the kids. They loved it. Pros: Atmosphere, Entertainment Cons: food was gross more

Mayan....better than anticipated. 9/1/2002

I had heard mixed things about the Mayan, but I decided to take a chance for my son's birthday. Although we waited for 30 min for a table, it was worth it. The food was good, I had the shrimp tacos. The kids had a terrific time. My youngest was trasfixed for 45 min with the talking bird sitting on the wall by our table. The server was excellent and the diving was cool as well. Good times. Pros: great for kids, exciting, neato more

Dont do it 8/7/2002

The food is terrible, the people are not very courtious, There is only 1 good thing about the whole place and that is the fact that it will keep your children amused for a full 5 minutes. Pros: Parking, Atmosphere, lesson learned Cons: Price, Food sucks, never again more
