Best

lovely place.

Worst

Had dinner at Mastros in Costa Mesa tonight for Valentines day. Dinner at Mastros is always great! Tonight however the restaurant seemed like they were going too fast. WRONG ...

Just Okay 8/4/2007

Bread basket was good (good pretzel bread). Chopped salad was good, but nothing amazing. Steak was perfectly cooked, but overly fatty for a $46 pricetag. Sauteed asparagus was great. Everything is served a la carte. The famed and waitress-recommended warm butter cake was good, but it tasted like a Betty Crocker boxed cake. It was served with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Service was great - attentive and side dishes were initially portioned by the waitress (a nice touch). However, for the final bill, the quality just didn't live up to the reputation. Also, for being such an elegant restaurant with a sign at the front desk saying ""proper attire required,"" staff didn't think twice about seating people in jeans and even flip flops, but I guess that's Orange County for you.\r \r Overall, everything was good, but we just came expecting a better experience. Good, but far from great. Pros: Great Service Cons: Average Food more

Bad Service, Careful -- They don't validate! 7/17/2007

I'll be honest and say that the food was good; HOWEVER, we had the worst service ever! We were trying to make a movie and it really looked like we had ample time until the waitress took about 40 minutes to get things done from when we asked for our check. We actually had to walk up to her and hand her our check because we were tired of waiting for her to pick it up. The restaurant wasn't even busy. We ended up missing the movie and paying $20.00 (we took two cars) for parking....SELF PARKING. Why you ask? Because they don't validate!!!! Now what restaurant doesn't validate? I can't think of any besides Mastro's. more

Frumbauskas ........ stay OUT of Scottsdale if you SO HATE the people! 6/7/2007

All your posts you are slamming people who live in Scottsdale. So word of advise, STAY OUT OF SCOTTSDALE! You make it sound like everyone here is fake when in reality, NOT everyone is Hawaiian shirt wearing idiots. Stop with the rude remarks! Seriously!\r \r I can't beleive I am even waiting my time writing this message but YOU are suppose to rate the Mastros in Cali and YET you slam people and Mastros in Scottsdale?\r \r Get over it!\r \r HAPPY TO LIVE IN SCOTTSDALE!!\r \r Jen Pros: PEOPLE IN SCOTTSDALE ARE GREAT Cons: Yes, there are $30,000 millionaire wanna be's but what place doesn't have a few of those? more

Best steakhouse in OC, by far! 4/3/2007

To categorize Mastro's with the other steakhouses is an insult to the quality of food and ambience at this steakhouse. I'm rather shocked that Mastro's is not ranked #1 by CitySearch. Like many, I believed Ruth Chris's and Morton's to be the best steakhouses in Orange County, until I visited Mastro's. Every detail from the decor, ambience, service, food, and drinks (especially the martini's) is perfection. My mouth waters just thinking about how the meat just melted in my mouth. As far as I'm concerned, Mastro's makes Ruth Chris's look like Sizzlers. I'm glad that it hasn't been hyped like other steakhouses yet and there is relatively no wait for even walk in dining, but I don't think that will last long. Pricey, but worth every penny. Pros: Food, martinis, ambience, service Cons: bit pricey, but worth it more

Even better than Mastro's Scottsdale 1/28/2007

The Mastro's restaurants in Arizona are our favorites; however, being in Scottsdale, they're unfortunately overrun by the phony, rude, cheesy Hawaiian shirt & bermuda shorts Scottsdale crowd. When we recently stayed at South Coast Plaza, we walked over to Mastro's to check it out, as we're moving to O.C. and wanted to see our new Mastro's ... and we couldn't be more impressed! It retains the best steaks in the world, but with an atmosphere and clientele a thousand times better than the Scottsdale location. First of all, it was a Thursday evening, and you could actually get a table as a walk-in, unlike in Scottsdale where you need to make a reservation 2-3 weeks in advance because the restaurant is so unique there compared to the town's usual mediocre offerings. Second, I just about fell on the floor when I saw that most of the men were wearing suits & ties. I haven't seen a tie in years in Arizona! It was a nice change from the cheesy Scottsdale crowd. And third, the place was intimate and quiet. At Mastro's Scottsdale, it's so extremely noisy that you can't even hear others at your own table and are forced to yell (and wake up with no voice the next morning). Very nice, and I'm very happy that this is my new Mastro's! Pros: The same great steaks as Mastro's Scottsdale but a whole lot classier Cons: It's in a crowded & congested area next to South Coast Plaza more

WORST Valet Parking 11/29/2006

We had a great dinner tonight and left very happy until we reached valet. The valet company first locker our keys inside the car then had the nerve to ask us for the keys. We pointed out that they were sitting on the dashboard inside the car. They then called the tow truck, the guy took at least 10 mintues to get the car unlock. Thinking the worst was over, I tryed to get inside the passender side and the door would not unlock, the car battery was DEAD! After another 10 minutes they jumped started the car, a hybrid civic. At this point I had complained to the manger who walked about with me and complained to someone on the walkie-talkie that they were having another problem with valet. He then did nothing for us then tell me that they contrat out with the valet company, PPS Parking. The story is not over, on the the way home, I realized that a key to our brand new home (we just closed escrow and were there having dinner to celebrate), were missing from the car. The key was on a cute home keychain, and now it is gone. And then to top it off,. the car stero does not work, nor the clock. I know have to take the car to the dealership tomorrow and then will be suing this TERRIBLE valet comapny, PPS parking. Pros: Food Cons: Valet parking more

One of the best if not the best steakhouse! 11/18/2006

The best steak in OC and LA !! The steaks i cant even describe it in words, the serivce was awesome the waiters are very helpful so dont be shy. Any of the steaks is a great pick but for an appetizer i suggest you get the oysters rockafeller. Its a great date spot but be prepared to drop some dollars. Overall it was money well spent. I will be back!! Pros: Everything more

One of the Best Steakhouses 11/17/2006

You can never go wrong with Mastro's. Their food + service is excellent. I've been to Bev. Hills, the Newport Oceanclub, and the Costa Mesa Mastro. My favorite is Costa Mesa b/c of their decor... very classy (esp. w/ all the wine cases along the walls). Their service is great. Our steak was not prepared properly.. too rare, but it came out again too well done, so the manager just took it off the menu. more
