Warning: Marix is not actually Tex-Mex. The queso tastes like it was made from powdered cheese, or stale velveeta at best. The food was ok, for LA-style Mexican, but the long wa...

Feel-good, fun place with tasty Mexican food 10/22/2006

This place has good vibes. Just go there for a margarita (the Kick-A$* margarita is a favorite), for some good solid fajitas, and make sure you get the queso dip (it's worth the calories for that hot, rich cheese cut with a slight jalapeno kick). Their takeout is also excellent. Pros: food, environment, gay-friendly Cons: can be crowded more

Great Mexican Food, Even Better Margaritas 9/19/2006

As the other reviews have said over and over, the margaritas at Marix are great. But the food is just as great. Everyone at my table loved their food and drinks. Also, I am not normally a fan of flan but Marix makes excellenet flan. A nice aspect of the restaurant is the retractable awning which can turn most of the restaurant into nice patio dining. The place is always packed and I have heard that the best time to get a table is Sunday afternoon (it worked, we walked right in and got a table). There's no parking and the service was indifferent but Marix is definitely the place to go for great Tex-Mex and margaritas. Pros: Fair prices, Great Margaritas, Great Food Cons: No Parking, Very Busy more

Marix has been a hot spot in the West Hollywood scene for years...and for good reason. Lets start with margaritas - insanely good. Whether blended or on the rocks, mango or classic, these margaritas will not dissapoint on flavor or on...uh....'impact'. Food is the best Tex-Mex around...literally. Outdoor dining, fun crowd and friendly staff. Hitting Marix late on a Sunday afternoon/early evening is a WeHo tradition, place is packed and wait for a table long...but just keep drinking the pitchers of margaritas and mingle, the time will fly. Pros: Legendary margaritas! more

Bad Attitude... 5/8/2006

5.07.06 While waiting nearly 20 minutes for a couple of salads my guest and I figured we better inquire about the delay... the waitress working found it necessary to explain one guy worked on sandwhiches and salads and that if I our food was ready should would have brought it. ""Beautiful"" at the moment the host had arrived with our food, clearly the waitress seem to have been skeward she never returned instead let the host finish our transaction. High drama for a little lunch. Pros: Classic Cons: staff with attitude more

Marix was one of the first restaurants I went to when I first moved to L.A. I love it. It's cozy, and the food is great. You have to valet because there's no where else to part but that's alright. I love the food and the margaritas are great. They play good music that gives the place a great vibe. Last fall I had the best pumpkin soup. I still think about it! Pros: good margaritas, great food, nice ambiene Cons: no parking more

When my husband and I want a romantic night out we go to Marix. It's fantasitic dining under the stars with a feel of a vacation resort. Relaxed and intimate, but at the same time noisy and busy. I've never felt comfortable sitting at a table butted up next to other people, but for some reason, here it works. The food is healthy and fresh and the margaritas are excellent. The music is usually pumping with new electronic trance with an occasional Madonna thrown in and that's why we love it. Try the apple pie, oh my god. Pros: festive/friendly, romantic/no kids, delicious Cons: , no reservations more

so downhill 7/23/2004

I've been going to Marix for close to 20 years and in the past year or so I've tried to ignore a sharp decline in its food quality. I'm very sad to see how packed it still is regardless of how little Marix's seems to care about its food preparation. At least the chips and salsa are still good, but even the chips have changed quite a bit. Sorry to see an institution become medicre at best. Pros: margaritas, good salsa more

went for a birthday party 8/7/2003

Didn't even notice it was there, it's hidden behind another restaurant just off SM Blvd. The Manager got upset when more people showed up than we originally had planned. The food was good, drinks were a little expensive. The place itself has a good atmosphere but that always depends on the clientele. the building is small, and tables are close together, the the open roof creates a nice breeze through the place. I'd go back, just with fewer people. Pros: good food, nice stmosphere, good value Cons: pushy staff, no space for groups more
