Warning: Marix is not actually Tex-Mex. The queso tastes like it was made from powdered cheese, or stale velveeta at best. The food was ok, for LA-style Mexican, but the long wa...

My co worker and I went to Marix Cafe for the first time for happy hour and had a great time. The workers were very friendly and nice. The margaritas were great and the food too. It was pretty packed and it was like 5pm on a friday. I would recommend it Pros: Love it because your inside but feel like your outside. Cons: Not a lot of seats more

My co-workers and I went for happy hour on a Friday. After a couple of stressful weeks in the office, this was exactly what we needed. The atmosphere was perfect, the drinks refreshing......... And the food was awesome! I would totally recommend Marix to any group looking to just chill out. more

Perfect Place To Kick Back With Friends... 8/15/2008

I recently went to Marix Cafe for the first time for happy hour with my co-workers and had a great time. It's a very laid-back atmosphere, outdoors (but you're covered). It really reminded me of those restaurants in Miami on Ocean Drive. Felt like I was on vacation. The yummy margaritas were really good too. To my surprise, it was pretty packed at 5pm. I would definitely recommend it if you wanna try something new. Pros: Gives you the outdoor feel. Cons: It's not for you if you're expecting something boujy. More kick back, for the types that like to grab a beer. more

Great Margaritas and Yummy Appetizers! 8/15/2008

This is a nice, cozy place to unwind after a long day at work. There's good customer service, inexpensive happy hour prices, and they provide valet parking for a small fee. There's hardly any street parking available nearby. Happy Hour is from 4-7pm (Mon-Fri). The margaritas are great, especially the strawberry margaritas! You can just sit there for hours drinking them. The appetizers are very tasteful as well. Try the Quesadillas - Cheese, Chicken, Steak - or the chicken or beef taquitos, all of them are yummy. They have complimentary chips and homemade salsa at the bar, for everyone to share! There aren't a lot of chairs/stools at the bar, so expect to stand. They also have an outdoor smoking area near the bar. For yummy food and tasty margaritas (and other alcoholic drinks), check out this warm and homey cafe. Pros: Ambience, Service, Great Food, Happy Hour Cons: Parking, Long Wait for Tables more

Great happy hour scene on Friday afternoon 8/12/2008

The margaritas go down smooth, and the steak quesadillas were very very tasty. It's definitely a cool place to chill after work, unwind...the fact that it was partly open to the skies made it feel airy and cool. Parking can be a beast but there's valet. Pros: Happy hour, good deals Cons: Can get pretty crowded; parking more

Flovorless Fajitias 6/17/2008

They should be ashamed to call themselves Tex anything. The chicken fajitas (to go, I was visiting at Cedars-Sinai) looked and tasted like a half-pound of boiled chicken, onions and peppers--un-browned and un-seasoned and soaking in a puddle of yellow broth.\r \r The friendly patio atmosphere was ruined by the ""dusch-dusch-dusch!"" of pounding West Hollywood grinding music. The funny thing is that the place was packed. Nearly everyone I've met in Los Angeles claims to hate Texas. Since Marix is clearly what they think Tejas ought to be, Texans can be grateful for the two thousand miles of desert in between. \r \r The chips, salsa and beans were pretty good and the service was friendly if a bit too inclined to answer their cell phones at inconvenient times. Pros: Beans and rice more

Good food, lively atmosphere 11/25/2007

Marix is one of the neighborhood favorite hangouts for some good food, drinks, and socializing. All the entrees have a bit of a kick to them, which totally satisfies my need for strong flavor. The staff are usually pretty busy but manage to come by frequently to check on things. People tend to gather before or after dinner up in the bar area, making Marix a somewhat lively scene on certain nights. And from time to time you get to spot a hottie or a celeb in the crowd. Valet parking is convenient and suggested. Expect a wait on weekend nights. more
