Rich history, wonderful food and outstanding atmosphere are my adjectives. Manhattan is not your typical Lufkin restaurant. Located in the basement of the Perry Building, a 50?s era office building and one of Lufkin?s few multi story buildings. Originally this space was the cafeteria for all the offices in the building back in the heyday of downtown Lufkin. I'm not knocking Lufkin after all I have lived here all of my life but let me be the first to point out the 800 pound gorilla in the room when it comes to dining out in Lufkin. ""Lufkin has a difficult time supporting anything that doesn't sell chicken fried steak, hamburgers or have the all you can eat buffet"". Manhattan is the antithesis of the Lufkin norm. You will find quiet, elegant, well mannered service and an owner that truly seems to understand the joy of serving wonderful food. The menu takes the approach of taking classic dishes and executing them very well. I highly recommend Manhattan to anyone who appreciates food but has found themselves stuck in a bit of a gastronomic desert. Be sure to listen to the specials. One of my favorite meals is the beef filet stuffed with prosciutto and goat cheese served with a sherry wine sauce and portabella mushrooms and sides of rosemary baked potatoes and fresh vegetables. Simple but fine and best enjoyed with a friend or special someone and a bottle of wine from their rather large wine selection. I couldn't recommend Manhattan any more. I hope Lufkin rewards such a wonderful place with many years of loyal patronage. I can tell you that I am doing my part and I will return at my next opportunity.
Pros: Food, Service & Atmosphere
Cons: Not higly visable but that is part of it's charm as well
