Great food and ambience! 6/13/2008

I came here with my two sisters and had a blast; I will definitely take my boyfriend here. Parking is tough in the neighborhood, so I suggest you do the valet service- it's only ten dollars (we were there on a Thursday, don't know how much it will be on the weekend). Definitely make reservations because it gets really busy. Although inside was very nice, we sat outside and it was great how they had heat lamps for when it?s cold- but I only suggest you eat outside if it's NOT WINDY. Also, the restaurant is set on a little hill- so it felt a little funny sitting slanted and all. But after you drink some wine, you won't care! Monday through Friday they offer the pre-fix menu for only about 30 dollars. You get soup or salad; choice of appetizer and main course. It was great!!!! Everything was very flavorful- but don't expect the portions to be big, I thought it was perfectly sized. But that shouldn't matter because you already get a little full from the salad and appetizer all to yourself. What was really fun was watching the Brazilian dancers dance on the bar. Our waitress was very nice to us but she seemed to lack at the end with giving us attention and service. But other than that, I totally recommend this restaurant. Go here for a great atmosphere and delicious food. Great place to bring your close friends or romantic partner. Pros: Affordable valet parking, delicious food, pre-fix menu, ambience Cons: Lacked a little service at the end of our meal more

Opportunity 12/8/2007

My wife, son and I were walking in North Beach and as we walked past this restaurant it looked nice. The hostess, Lenha, was very courteous, after chekcing with the appointment girl they told us that without a reservation we could only stay until 8:30pm, it was 7:45 so we decided to go in, thinking that we may be in for a pleasant surprise. The waiter seemed like he was having a bad day since we started, he took more than 5 minutes to show up. In the meantime we looked around the place and at other patrons, no menus, nothing else except wait and hold our hunger. After the order was placed at around 7:55, at 8:25pm our 3 year old son asked me with great concern why it was taking so long to bring his spaghetti? I just wished the manager would have been present to hear and see his comments, I could not have reflected the situation better; nothing came to our table until 8:40pm, the waiter apologized and said that our tickets somehow got misplaced, a $10 dessert was on the house; nice gesture. The bus boys were very polite and courteous, (managers take note for development, area of opportunity). The spaghettini was good, and so was the rib eye, I have had much better for much less, but I guess rent is high, portions are hearty and taste healthy, meaning not heavy with grease or fat. There were other dishes that looked great, like short ribs and one that looked like a pumpkin. I would like to go back to have a second opinion and make a more balanced judgment, a bad day cold happen to anyone and it would be unfair to make an opinion based on the afore mentioned circumstances. I would go again. more

Horrible service 9/17/2007

Went here on Saturday night and spent over $200 on food and wine. It was obvious from the beginning that my server (Sepideh) had every intention of rushing us through the meal. Pouring the full bottle of wine out instead of just serving appropriate portions and leaving the rest on the table was the first sign. Telling us that we "should order now because the kitchen is really busy" was another sign. We were still looking at appetizers. Dessert was interesting. Getting the bill and having her check it for money before the dessert even arrived was pretty rude. She then stood in the doorway outside watching our every move. We paid to get her off our back and it was confirmed that she didn't really care what kind of service were received as she snatched it up, dropped it back off and walked out the front door with a "good luck" from her friend. I know about working in a restaurant and needing to get somewhere afterwards, but damn. The busers were much more kind and attentive. They deserve her job. The chefs know what they're doing and the food is good, but it's way overpriced. I've been here before, but this was the last time. There are much better places to eat in North Beach. Pros: Warm heaters outside Cons: Bad service from the waitress more

Great food, excellent service 8/18/2007

My Boyfriend and I went there on a Friday night, we are from Nashville, and did not have reservations. We were seated immediately, at the bar where you could see the cooking. What a treat, the food was great! We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer and the scallops... The tuna was nothing special but the scallops were a meal within it's self. We shared the Marggrosa salad, it was very good with a citrus mint dressing, yum!\r For the entree we shared the Veal shank, it too was prepared very well and was a great compliment to everything else we had ordered.\r \r Would definitely go there again. Italian, spanish...mixed well Pros: Great food, reasonable price, good service, great setting, romantic Cons: zero parking more

Amazing place to eat and see some great entertainment 7/31/2007

My best friend and I came to Manga Rosa on a Thursday night to see "The Samba Dancers". My friend had been here before and said it was a good time, which was completly true. We ate the manga rosa salad, the polenta, The Veal and the Prawns in the pumpkin..Great dinner! The waiter had recommended everything and we took his advice. Overall I would say it was one of the best dinners we have had in SF...The food took a bit long but that is expected on a busy night..Good service, great food, amazing dancing... more

really bad service can ruin a mediocre meal 7/30/2007

i'm never going back.\r my brother and i took our parents there for a celebratory dinner and the service was terrible. they were inattientive and their heads were really not ""in the game"". when they finally brought us our missing cutlery after our food was sitting and getting cold, they decided that it was a good idea to reach across our plates (and our food) to place them. there was only one request that was not standard (no onion in the spinach salad) and they couldn't even get that right with no apologies given when it was all piled very conspicuously on the edge of the plate. for a party of four, they assumed an 18% gratuity when they originally stated that they could not add the tip when we asked. considering the service this was way more than they deserved & thier assumption of 18% was presumptuous to say the least. after all that, the food was just okay. \r i'm never going back. more

Oh my god! 6/23/2007

This was the best birthday ever! My girlfriends and I had dinner here about a month ago and I was really impressed. I told the waiter Mark I would mention him on here because he was that good. He brought us shots for my birthday and put a candle on the shot glass. It was so cute, We got a really awesome picture. The food was amazing, Mark took care of everything we asked him to bring out his favorites and so we could share. Normally I would expect the waiter to bring to much food but he brought the right amount. Very professional and the food was Ab. Fabulous. You should try the Parks Cab. it was the best red wine I've had in years, I had the ahi and polenta together as my dinner, SO GOOD! MUST MUST TRY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Service, atmosphere Cons: music is kinda bad more

There are a lot of great restaurants in northbeach 5/30/2007

It is very pretty inside, a place that anyone would take a romantic date, and that is what I did. And I don't mind spending good money for good food, but the service was a little cold, and even though the food looked pretty good, there wasn't a lot of it and there was really a lot of salt. Actually, I was a little embarassed for my date, and on top of it after eating I felt really bloated from the salt - if someone had pulled my finger it would have flattened everything between there and Broadway - not a good lead in for the rest of the evening, that feeling. Though it really is a pretty place - it would still recommend going there for a drink - you're probably safe if it comes from a bottle there. There are other places if you want a real Brazillian flavor, though. more

Love the Cocktails! 5/14/2007

I had a fun experience at Mangarosa...I'm half Brazilian, so I was very excited of bringing a few friends to celebrate my bday. We started having the famous Caipirinhas! It was a little disapointed because the drinks were way too sweet and huge! We couldn't get a 2nd one! So I tryed the Brazilian Cosmo and it was deliscious! They make with premium cachaca instead vodka. Super. We were served by a Brazilian waitress - a sweetheart and very attentive. I wish I remembered her name. She helped us to get just the right food. I had the gnocchi....hummmmm! the best. The cheesbread melted in your mouth. My boyfriend had the hearts of palm salad - very refreshing! The negative think...while we were waiting for our table, this blond woman, which I dont know if was hostess or manager...was very rude with the staff. I couldnt help wonder, what kind of person was that? The place was full and she was almost yelling at the poor server or buser. No excuses for that! Pros: Brazilian Cocktails more

the meat was horrible! 4/21/2007

Fun place to go drink, not eat. The food was less than average -- the steaks were all bad (5 of us!!). The meat was well below par for a $35 Ribeye. Really. Pros: location: North Beach Cons: Bd meat, pricey for what it is more
