ok, but 3/17/2011

OK, we were a party of 15 arriving at 7:00 without a reservation. I totally understand that we couldn't be accommodated right away. No problem whatsoever! We were told to come back at 8:15pm. We walked a few blocks over to Moe's and had drinks. I wasn't surprised that when we came back at 8:15, they still weren't ready to handle a large group like ours. That's absolutely OK! What's not OK is that they have a very tight area in the entry and in the bar, and they dragged us inside to wait. They kept stringing us along that our table was about to be ready . I really did NOT enjoy being squished against strangers every time someone had to pass through the narrow walkway. It was nearly 9:30 by the time we were finally seated. What really aggravated me was that there were several available 4-tops throughout the restaurant. A good manager/host/hostess would have suggested that we break up into groups that could fit the available seating, especially since we all didn't get to sit together in the end anyway. Even phenomenal food would probably not have been enough to overcome the extreme discomfort during the wait, and I thought the food was just OK. Frankly the mac and cheese on the lunch buffet at the hotel was better than what came with the pork chop small plate. The waiter was very nice, though, which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. more

Outstanding! 12/10/2009

I have visited both Magnolia's and its sister restaurant Blossom many times. Each time the food, drinks, service and staff have been wonderful. I plan to return again & again, especially for their Fried Green Tomatoes, which are some of the best I have ever had! more

Staff Goes Extra Mile! 3/30/2009

My dad's birthday was this evening. My husband and I could not be there, but the staff made it perfect for him and my mom. I called ahead and gave my credit card number. They surprised my parents at the end of the evening with a card stating that we had covered the bill and Happy Birthday! Brooke, the manager and Steven, the server went above and beyond to make this birthday spectacular. The surprise was seamless! They even brought him a yummy dessert and a copy of the cookbook!\r \r Thank you to all the staff at Magnolias - I hope to eat there soon! Pros: Customer service is outstanding! more

Great Southern Hospitality 10/17/2008

Magnolias is a staple in Charleston. They offer upscale food in a casual atmosphere. I personally LOVE the fried chicken! It is mouth watering! The place is usually pretty busy so we always call ahead for reservations to make sure we get a seat by the window. more

My husband and I went to Charleston a few months ago and of all the resturants we went to on our trip this was my favorite! I cant get the blue crab bisque out of my mind! Great restaurant with fantastic service to match. Top notch wine service and they update their wine list daily! The food at Magnolia's is excellent. They have a great selection of appetizers and solid entrees. Their lunch was very good but they really shine at dinner. I had a wahoo special served over fried eggplant that was an amazing combination. more

Awesome 8/6/2007

The best meal we had in Charleston! The flounder was fabulous as was the Carpetbagger filet. Seated promptly at the time we reserved and had a great server. Beautiful interior! If I would have one complaint, it would be the cocktails we started out with were rather weak, especially for $7 each. Everything else made up for it though...a wonderful meal. more

The Best 10/29/2006

We celebrated my Mother's Birthday at Magnolia's on a Saturday evening. We had reservations for 7:30 and was seated within a few minutes of check in. IT WAS FABULOUS!! The food was delicious and when one of the appetitzers came out that we did not care for they took it away immediately and apologized that we did not like it. My Mother had the best filet...it melted in her mouth. The fried chicken was good too...but the filet was the best. Also the Chocolate Creme Brulee was too die for! Also the server could not have been better. Would absolutely go back if ever in Charleston again. \r Pros: Food, Serve more

The Best Dinner Ever 6/14/2006

The southern egroll appetizer with collards was awesome. I wouldn't recommend the pimento cheese unless you like olives.\r \r The blackened mahi mahi was PHENOMENOL and I highly recommend it. more

Good food & attentive service! 6/13/2006

Ham Chowder was a tad too salty, but the fried green tomatoes with jalapeno grits was superb. Parmesan crusted flouder was good. The level of service provided by our waitress was exceptional.\r I'll definitely dine here again if I visit Charleston. Everyone I spoke to about this restaurant had good experiences. Pros: great service and good food, awesome sweet tea more

Wow! 10/3/2005

We travelled to SC for pleasure and finished our trip at Magnolia. What a great choice. The Dinner was perfect from wine to service and most of all, food. The Shrimp and grits were melty and devine, the flounder was flavorful. Just a wonderful overall experience, and the price was not bad for this caliber of restaurant. Pros: great food, great service, romantic more

Great Food and Service for the Value 7/15/2005

Ppromptly seated...the place fills up fast at lunch time....go early! Lucked out getting a fantastic waitress - Kappie !!! This woman is mature, professional, knew her menu ingredients. She was always there with drinks, but yet wasn't always in your face. My mate, had the shrimp & grits, and has done nothing but repeatedly exclaims how good they were since we got home, and that we have to go back. I played safe with my selection (was burnt twice earlier elsewhere); I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak. This was an incredible sandwich.....the caramelized onions were the secret. The menu is great, and they've worked hard to offer the presentations they do. In a neighborhood populated by a few too many ""maverick"" restaurants .....Magnolia's stands out like the star of the south that it really is. We..honestly..felt..that..we..got..good..value..for..price..paid..and..great..service. Pros: Great menu quality, Prompt seating, some seasoned staff Cons: More managment, work on young staff more

Superb! 5/13/2004

The best meal I had during my 5-day visit to Charleston...and that's saying a lot. I had a mahi mahi special that was exquisite, and the service was top notch for our rather large group. Make this a must-stop during your trip. You'll be glad you did. Pros: Wonderful waitstaff, Fantastic cuisine more
