Amazing food. Highly recommended. We went for our anniversary and were treated with the upmost kindness and generosity. We felt like special customers, and our food was exquisite!...

Worst

It's Little Italy for those whose notions of Little Italy come from Godfather movies. However, the food is good, if not terribly authentic. The ambience is, well, Grand Centra...

Food is good but must love SMOKE 9/19/2002

The food is quite good - with my favorite being the mushroom ravioli. I've eaten in Maggiano's in the Chicago suberbs. It's one of my kids favorite restaurant in the Chicago area. He and his wife take all of their visitors to the area to Maggiano's. However, on thing is different here and I refuse to visit the restaurant here until management makes some changes - you must walk through the smoking section and wait in the smoking section to be seated. I observed mothers with babies in strollers waiting in all of that smoke. They need to change this especially for us who are allergic to smoke. I take none of my visitors to this restaurant and will not until they make a change to their smoking section. Pros: staff is friendly, food is good Cons: wait in smoking area, long lines more

Red and White Overkill 9/6/2002

Maggiano's is a great group restaurant where many people can eat many types of southern Italian (see: red sauce) offerings under the ""family style"" moniker. However, the discriminating individual foodie would be better off trying one of the smaller, everyday southern Italian joints like Assaggio, Valentino's or Vespa. Maggiano's succeeds in an effort to bring Little Itlay to the country via an upscale chain restaurant (much better than Olive Garden or other chains), but the Mama Leone theme can only carry it so far up the proverbial food chain. On the whole the restaurant is too busy to provide the attentive service necessary to make it attractive to true culinarians, but provides enough energy to entertain a family finishing their day at the mall. Pros: Group Friendly, Leftovers, Decent Chain Food Cons: Crowded, Loud, Price more

Find a couple seats in the bar area. . . 9/4/2002

If you are fortunate enough to snag some seats in the bar area while waiting for your table, the wait will go unnoticed. My husband and I went to Maggiano's for our 4th wedding anniversary and had a great time because we weren't in a rush. We had some fabulous mussels and decent wine while we were waiting; I was almost sad to hear our name called. Our waiter was great and the atmosphere was nice. I definitely recommend splitting entrees. . . they don't skimp on food. more

Mama Mia!!!! 8/31/2002

Love this restaurant!!!! Great service, atmosphere, and location!!!! I highly recommend the family style dinner if you are with four or more!! All you can eat!!!! We were rolling out and had doggie bags. more

Maggiano's Good for a chain 8/30/2002

The food was excellent, but a bit overwhelming on the portions. Restaurant was gorgeous, but loud. The service was slow and indifferent. Pros: Food Cons: Loud, Service more

MANGIA, MANGIA, MANGIA 8/21/2002

Thats what you do at Maggianos. Its fabulous Italian food. Not the coziest place to take a date, but the best food. The family style eating is your best bet on variety and price. more

Take a group or go alone 8/12/2002

This is an outstanding restaurant! Not just huge portions BUT great food as well! more

Go hungry, expect average food 8/9/2002

Table of 6 with reservations were seated promptly, immediately greeted by our server on a busy Sunday evening. Food arrives in portions that can easily feed 2 or 3. A Half order of roasted chicken arrives with 4 pieces. Service was slow both from the kitchen and the bar: the glass of wine I ordered for dinner arrived after I was finished eating and had cork. Dessert made up for it. Creme Brulee had a hint of citrus and was divine. Its alot of food for the money if you enjoy leftovers and have the time to wait. Pros: spacious dining room, good food Cons: inevitable doggy bag, poor bar service more

Good, not great 8/8/2002

Overall I had a good impression of this place; the atmosphere was spacious and unique, the pasta was at least as good as what you'd find at most other Italian restaurants. Our server did a nice job, but we had the unfortunate experience of sitting in a ""high traffic"" area--I had a front-seat view of waiters crashing into each other (knocking over trays, etc) over and over again. It was frustrating for us to watch, and I KNOW it was frustrating for the poor servers rushing to get orders out. Pros: Nice atmosphere, Outdoor seating Cons: Very crowded more

Good food, great service. 8/8/2002

Good food. Large portions. Service was great. The busboy must have refilled our drinks 4 or 5 times. The waitress was friendly and always there when you wanted something, but not hovering over our table. Although I haven't tried the desserts, I've heard they are also good. more

Old Style 8/6/2002

At last, someone breaks free from the neo-Tuscan tradition which has overrun the southeast like Kudzu. This is simple homestyle Italian cooking, presented in a Mafia palace. It's no Mulberry Street, but it's the most capable meat-and-pasta Italian in the area. And the mushroom ravioli is killer. If Sinatra came to Durham, he would have eaten here. more

FLYTRAP 8/3/2002

MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WAS NOT VERY GOOD. THE STAFF WAS ANNOYED BECAUSE THE RESERVATION FOR 10 WAS REDUCED TO 8. TO BE SUCH A NICE ESTABLISHMENT THE LAMPS ON THE TABLES HAD THE CORDS WRAPPED AROUND THE LAMP AND DROOPED OVER THE TABLE!. I WILL NOT GO BACK Pros: GOOD PARKING, ATMOSPHERE Cons: IGNORING FLIES, STAFF more

Just Okay 8/3/2002

The food was kind of ordinary, nothing special. The appetizers were very good though. Overpriced for what you get. Our waiter was kind of pushy, he directed us away from things we wanted and towards things he liked - I'm pretty sure we were the ones paying for and eating the meal. Also, we ate at the first-come-first-serve tables facing the bar. If we hadn't there would have been a very long wait. Pros: Good appetizers Cons: Ordinary food, Pushy waiter, Overpriced more

The best...period 8/2/2002

I recently moved down from Chicago, and this is one of the most popular restaurants there. I was happy to see that the restaurant at Southpoint was every bit as good as the one in Chicago. Fantastic wait staff and pleasant atmosphere. Definitely try this place out. You won't be disappointed. more

Cafeteria Chicken 8/1/2002

I had chicken marsala, my friend had chicken piccata. Both were of the level one would expect in a cafeteria. The chicken was thick and tough, the sause was thin and weak: a bad combination! If you had a good experience here, I'd like to know what you had to eat! The service was very good and the place looks great! I did not like the big portion and share philosphy since I go out to eat what I want, not some compromise. Pros: service Cons: food more

Tickle Your tastebuds 7/31/2002

I have been to Maggiano's twice and both times have walked away more than pleased. The family style option is great and we ended up taking home enough food for another meal! Pros: excellent service Cons: reservations a must more

family style, huh? 7/31/2002

My family of 11 went to eat for lunch and we were told that we HAD to order family style. Which meant that we would be required to pay $21.99 per person. But this meant that we could only choose a few items to share from each of their categories. And most of us can't eat that much. So we left. Beware, if you go with more than 10, they will force you to go with the family style dining. Pros: great salads, near mall Cons: family style, parking, the wait more

Where's the garlic?? 7/30/2002

The restaurant was beautiful but the food needs improvement. What's Italian food with no garlic? Portions were overly generous but the prices were equivilent to ordering a meal and a half so in retrospect you paid for those portion sizes. The wait staff was attentive...but if you don't have a reservation you better be prepared to wait an hour or more even at 5 pm. Even with my reservation I waited 30 minutes to be seated at 5 pm...which shows me they overbook the time slots. more

Service needs work 7/12/2002

The atmosphere and food in this restaturant is great. However, their service needs some improvement. After putting our name on their waiting list for lunch, they told us to come back in twenty minutes. We came back in 15 and our name was already crossed out of the list. When we sat down at our table, they were no bread plates and they never arrived. After our meal was delivered, we had to feed our son from our plates, since they forgot to place the order for his food. Throughout the whole experience, the waiter never came by to ask us if we needed anything or if our food was OK. more

Enter an Old Movie 7/11/2002

Great atmosphere with beautiful wood and a nice open air feeling. Very large menu with great portions though the dishes I've had my two times there I would saw were only slightly above average. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable plus the breads were great. Pros: Big Portions, At the mall, Seating pretty quick Cons: At the mall more
