Best

The Lucky Lab is a great set of beer-hall style bars with different food at each location. Best of all is the Tour de Lab 30 mile bike ride which makes stops at each location.

Worst

i've been to many brewpubs, i mean come on, i'm Irish!! but this has to be the WORST food i've ever had in my whole life. i've met friends there 5 times in the last year (masoch...

Amazing Local Brews, Fantastic Bites to Eat, Dog Friendliness to the Top 1/18/2009

What a better place to have a few really amazing beers, freshly brewed, and of alternating flavors to the weather season, and as the ""Recession Session"" brew came out, economic conditions. Pros: Awesome Local MicroBrewery, Fantastic Food, Delightful Setting Cons: Occasional strange servers, but we must keep Portland weird more

Great for groups! 2/22/2007

I meet at the Lucky Lab on Quimby every month with a large group of people (average 20.) We are kind of noisy but no one seems to mind. There is a great selection of beer on tap. The food isn't the best in the world, but has always been appropriately cooked. They offer some neat sandwich options. I wasn't impressed with the corn chowder- it wasn't thick at all. The waitstaff are attentive, but not talkative. Pros: large beer selection, great for groups, interesting sandwiches Cons: the corn ""chowder,"" can get drafty, can get noisy more

great beer, bring the dog 11/15/2006

We have been the a couple of times, enjoyed the beer, nice porch to bring the dog hang out with friends and have a beer!! Pros: great beer Cons: self service more

A canine inspired list of brews with a dog friendly atmosphere. 9/14/2006

The menu is as odd as the cows dispersed throughout the bar. Deli and Thai? Seriously? But to their credit they do both well. Their Italian grinder is delicious. I have yet to find that one beer, although Black Lab and Top Dog or both certainly drinkable. If you enjoy thai try the Bento with Spicy Peanut Curry. Pros: Bring your Fido and enjoy the covered poarch together. Cons: Having to wait in line at a counter to order. more

Best Beer, Best Friends...We love the Lab! 7/7/2006

My husband and I have been going to the Lucky Lab since it first opened. We had our first date there, and have made many important decisions in life over a pint with our pooch out on the back patio. We love you guys...""...drinkin' a beer with my four legged friends and a coupl' a strangers it all depends, it doesn't matter that it's gettin' late, for now it's time to celebrate!"" (FLG) Keep on brewin' boys (and ladies) - and welcome home Flem, keep kickin' it over the top! Pros: Great Beer, great people and a great patio Cons: sometimes there are a loooooot of dogs, but I like dogs soo... more

Mediocre food, unfriendly staff 8/22/2005

I occasionally meet friends at the Lab on Miser Mondays for beer and dinner. I'm always dissapointed with the utterly boring menu, that hasn't changed in years. They just don't seem to care whether or not their customers are satisfied, as long as people still come through the door. They often run out of certain foods; for instance, if sandwiches are practically the only thing on your menu, make sure you have enough bread. Beer is good, but not consistant, and dogs are a huge plus. The managers could stand to read some of these comments. Pros: good beer, dogs, good for groups Cons: crappy food, poor service more

Come for the Beer! 6/9/2005

Ah, the lab! The lab consistently has the best beer in town. Dog Day IPA is a classic. And they have a nitro and hand pump tap with rotating varieties. But watch out, their alcohol content is high (higher than they claim?). The indoor area is spacious. The atmosphere is rustic with unfinished vaulted ceilings that look untouched for 80 years. Outdoor seating is spacious, and now they have outdoor heaters for those cold winter nights. There are typically a lot of dogs on the porch and things can get rambunctious. Service is ""too cool to be friendly. The food is overpriced and not good, but tolerable in a pinch. BLT is the best meat sandwich and the three cheese meltdown is the best veggie. Bento is decent. Caesar salad is the highlight. The soups are not stellar. Don't come for the food, come for the beer. Pros: Beer, Bring your Dog, Funky SE atmosphere Cons: Food Menu Overpriced, unfriendly Staff more

The Great Good Place 12/20/2004

Ray Oldenburg would love this place as much as my wife and I do. Clearly the Lucky Labrador meets the requirements of a great third place. Friendly atmosphere, good food and drink, and, most of all, a relaxed place to meet and spend time with friends. more

The Lucky Lab - Blatantly Awesome 5/22/2004

I've been going to the LuckyLab for just over a year now, and let me tell you - It is mind blowingly great. Because I'm only eighteen, I cannot comment on the state of the various beers that are served (Though my parents are quick to announce that the IPA is one of their favorites). I can however, comment on the food. The menu consists almost entirely of various sandwiches, and while that may seem like a let-down to some, their outstanding quality more than makes up for the lack of a broad menu, in my eyes. The Deli Club inparticular is rather awesome. The LuckyLab's environment is also rather nice, sporting some nice music, and a large dining area.It is not without flaws however, as some of the tables tend to be a bit wobbly. At any rate, the LuckyLab has earned the oh-so-coveted 'ZopharX's-Favorite' award. Hurrah. Pros: Great Sandwiches, Good Service, Nice Music Cons: , Limited Menu more

Mixed Feelings 4/5/2004

This is not the place to go if you are looking for the real brew pub experience. There were neither fries nor burgers which is the standard at most brew pubs. However, the sandwhichs are great and the bentos looked very appetizing. It would be a wonderful place for a man/woman and his/her best friend to relax on a good sunny day. The dogs may not go inside, there are a large number of picnic tables to choose from. They did not have decaf coffee and while we were there they ran out of soup. We might go back on a nice day to relax with our dog and have a good sandwich. There ared mixed reveiws. Pros: Good beer more

Great for the veggies 11/14/2003

I guess this place was perfect for hosting our large group that included vegetarians. However, given the option I probably wouldn't return. Brewpubs are supposed to have grease at least in the form of fries or pizza. Lucky lab has neither. The bentos can temporarily sate the carnivore, but I would visit this place on a full stomach. more

Love the Lab!!!! One of the best places to just ""sit and chill"" and have some tasty microbrews in Portland... Some of the best outdoor seating in town... Definite must! more

the food is TERRIBLE!!! 3/31/2003

i've been to many brewpubs, i mean come on, i'm Irish!! but this has to be the WORST food i've ever had in my whole life. i've met friends there 5 times in the last year (masochist?) and everytime i've been sorely disappointed by the fare. it's so uncreative and bland. so plain and disappointing i can't even begin to go int detail. it would take too long!!! in the summer, if you've already eaten, it's a fun place to hang out and drink beer. i do love that there are always dogs hanging around. Pros: dogs, beer, friends Cons: food, food, food!!! more

Casual Excellence 3/24/2003

The club sandwich is one of the best in town, and at $5.95, probably the best value as well. The sandwich ingredients are pretty decent and the fresh bread from Grand Central baking is excellent. Oh yeah, the beer... I'm partial to the Hawthorne Best Bitter, but the IPA certainly holds it own against Portland's may options for quality brews. Great place for a casual date or meeting up with a group of friends. Pros: casual, inexpensive more

Lucky Lab stinks like wet dog 1/30/2003

If you're meeting a bunch, and I mean a bunch, of people, then LL is a good rendez-vous. However, it is boring and lacks character. You should move on quickly to another place once your group arrives. Although, not many places can accomodate large groups like LL. Pros: good meeting place, dogs welcome Cons: boring, no character more

Dogs and kids friendly... 1/16/2003

My 8 year daughter's favorite place to go on Saturday with her Dad. She loves the soups and the BLT's. Also the Thomas Kemper root beer. She doesn't quite know how much her Dad enjoys the brewskey, but that's OK. Pros: good food, good beer, kid friendly Cons: tables wobble, restrooms marginal more
