liems pet store 7/8/2009

Liems is an icon of chinatown. He has been in business at least 40 years, his fish are affordable and they are as good a quality as you will find. Liem himself is a kind and knowledgeable fellow who has probably forgot more about tropical fish than most petco employees ever knew. more

Liem's is a specialty shop, thus not a good choice for a beginner. To my knowledge, only Liem carries imported Asian goldfish, not domestic stock; the cichlids are also a feature. The location down a dark alley is exotic, truly a Chinatown classic. Try it. more

This pet shop is a little shady, there isn't very much room to move inside, and many of the fish don't look very healthy. The fish tanks are very crowded and the quality of the fish is quite questionable. Also the prices are a tad high. I'm not sure if I will buy here again. Their fish don't look too healthy. They owner is not too helpful. more

Hard to Find. 12/8/2005

This is a good store to pick up supplies because prices are good. They have a horrible location so that might explain the prices on their merchandise. Other than that the pets are great, they look healthy and the prices are reasonable. They rarely have discounts too, which really doesn't help with their sales becauase they're hard to find. more

Go elsewhere 12/8/2005

First of all, this store seemed to be in a very poor location. Secondly, it really seems like the staff doesn't know, or care much, about the fish I was interested in. They were very pushy, telling me that this the fish here were very healthy. Funnily, I saw many bellies up, and guppies, that are usually very active in other stores, seemed way too crowded, thus leaving very poor conditions for the fish. This place needs some actual trained staff. more
