great food, great prices, very yummy Pros: super flavors, great tea Cons: tenderloin more

Awesome Food 3/21/2010

It is an awesome place. Me and my friend have tried out all the other restaurants close to this place, but nothing is worth the taste that we found at Lahore Karahi. Most of the Indian/Pakistani restaurants have a little bland food. However, the food at this place has a great flavor. I tried out a couple of veg options and they were mouth-watering. The only prob I found was that it took a little long for them to serve the food. However, it is worth the wait. I guess they have mentioned that on their website. Pros: Awesome food, Reasonable Price Cons: Long wait more

Just to let you know the service is improving. 1/24/2009

It is casual beyond most places, so make yourself at home, get a glass of water or chai. A couple of nice young guys are doing a much better job of serving. They will get to you and you will get your dinner. Relax. But that isn't why we drive across the bridge to eat here. It's the food. Just so you know-- It is that good. more

best chicken tikka masala in town for the price 3/18/2008

The service is SLOW, and there tends to be a wait for a table if you go during the dinner rush. But the food is amazing, just like the price. This is a great place to go if you are with someone you can hold a nice LONG conversation with. I will continue to go back time after time. Pros: great food at an exceptional value Cons: slow service more

Great food, awful service 8/24/2007

how much can one sacrifice for good food? my first time at lahore karahi, my friends and I waited a full hour and a half after ordering until our food came. my second time, was a more manageable 30 minutes. my third and final trip, they stuffed my girlfriend and i into a corner table with no space despite plenty of available tables. i have to say that this place has really good food, but has probably the worst service in the city. take a chance at your own risk. i think i'll just be going to shalimar. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Ambience more

Homestyle - The Pakistani Way 5/30/2007

I've been eating here along time, since 2004, and have seen the community drawn in to the good food and personality that makes of Lahore Kahari. Many people have already said and sang the praises. I'd like to comment on few of the cons listed. The service staff, and I know who you are taking about, is a very sweet nice man. He is shy and he tries but he does struggle with the various customs and dialects that are here in San Francisco.\r \r Its like eating Thanksgiving Dinner with extended family. Sometimes very intimate, sometimes a bit stressed around the edges. The intentions of everyone is good and - again - if you're use to certain protocols of American dining you may have to learn that something like immediate clearing of finished plates is not a universal custom. However, the middle east is extremely unique in its generous nature. Do not be surprised if you enjoy freebies along the way or something made special just because the chef thought you'd enjoy it, no charge. \r \r As for the neighborhood....if you don't look like a ""pro"", a picture-taking tourist from WI, ""flashing colors"", or someone looking to score drugs....the most you might get is ""Hey baby"" or ""Do you have some change."" Yes, things change after midnight, so finish your dinner by then. One block up on Geary between Mason and Leavenworth, there are 3 expensive trendy bars, no less then 3-4 tourist hotels and the open late thai noodle house that seems to be a little hotspot until 2am on the weekends. Its a little seedy around the Jones/O'Farrell area but just walk with confidence. Otherwise, use Geary to walk over to Leavenworth and then walk down the block to O'Farrell. \r \r You will NOT get a quick meal, ever. Plan at least 30-40 min for carryout and 90 min for dinner. Things dont move fast, thats why its good. Grab a glass of chai, talk, relax, etc. While you cannot order drinks here, you can bring beer/wine no extra charge. The ice cream and lassi are homemade.\r \r MENU @ lahorekarahisf . com Pros: Well, everything. You have to go and find out. Cons: Patience, not meant if you're on lunch break more

Best Indian Food in SF 2/21/2007

I found heaven when I found Lahore Karahi. It is just a couple of blocks from my house so I found myself irresisably draw...often. Amazing that the chef makes everything as you wait, from the naan to the prawn tikka masala. I noticing that I did not order dessert he insisted on giving my some kheer to take home, also absolutely amazing. \r \r Highly recommended!!!!!!!! Pros: best food, service and very friendly Cons: borderline bad neighborhood, but still well worth the trip more

Best Food and Best Service !!! 11/30/2006

First time I went inside it didnt seem like the place I would be regularly going to. Ever since that day, I have gone there repeatedly and have taken my collegues, boss and my clients, they have all loved this place. I believe Lahore Karahi deserves this rating. Their Tandoori Stuff, Tandoori Fish, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tika Masalah mmmmmmmm mouth watering. They have the best food in town !!! You have to try it to believe it! Pros: Thumbs UP ! more

Patience Is A Virtue... 10/11/2006

And you'll need it at Lahore Karahhi. The food here is GREAT, (especially the butter chicken) but it may take an hour to get it after you order. Another MAJOR flaw is the service. Although pleasant, it's very unprofessional and untrained. You have to ask repeatedly for dishes you ordered, napkins, drinks, etc....then ask some more. The small staff seems overwhelmed and severely untrained. Go for the food; just know you'll be in for a wait! Pros: Great Food, Friendly Staff Cons: SLOW Kitchen, Poorly Trained Service Staff, Mistake$ With Bill more

Tempting Tenderloin Treasure 11/18/2005

I love this resturant!!! Everyone who works there is super nice, the first time I went in they even gave me a free dessert. There is a decent vegetarian selection and all the food is excellent. The resturant doesn't look like much, but it is some of the best indian food I've ever had. They also got an excellent health rating. Great Prices! Pros: great food!, friendly service!, Made me really happy! more

Best Inidan/Pak Food Outside of London 11/17/2005

hands down the best food from the Indian Sub-Continent I have eaten in the US. Try the Tandoori Fish and the Lamb Saag and you will not be disapointed. Pros: Great Chef, Freindly Service, Home Cooked more

Some like it hot 10/26/2005

If you're into Indian or Pakistani food, this is definitely the place for you. Tough to find, but worth the hunt, Lahore Karahi makes the most fantastic Tandoori fish, and can satisfy nearly any appetite with their other dishes. The service is quick and non-intrusive, and they won't hover over you since the folks (only 1 guy, usually) working there are busy hooking up your tasty grub. They can seat a group of up to about 8-10, FYI. Check it out! Pros: Tandoori fish!, everything else! Cons: neighborhood at night more

Hands Down Best Indian Food in the State 9/29/2005

Best Indian Food I have ever eaten. If you go order the Tandoori Fish for starters and the Goat Curry for your main. Also the Chef/ Owner is a great guy. If you dont know what to order just ask him and you won't be disappointed more

A Hidden Gem 3/22/2005

Let me preface this by saying I am a true Indian food snob. People that go to Naan and Curry and Shalimar don't know what the heck they are missing. When the owner was sick I tried some other Tandooriloin hotspots and was sorely disappointed. The owner of this place is also the chef. The food is unreal at ridiculously affordable prices. The chai is superb. Haleem mmmmm. Garlic naan. It's all amazing. The chicken korma is to-die-for. Samosas from heaven. One of my co-workers recently went to India for a month and said she craved Lahore the entire time. The prices are from 1987 or something. Go here. Pros: Food, Service, Prices more
