Born and raised in Pittsburgh, the absolute highlight of each of the 25 years I lived there was the annual visit to Kennywood Park. Now living in Florida, I have visited most of America's premier parks, including many of this articles '10 Best'. Kennywood remains my favorite. Its long and rich history captures the best of decades passed. While boasting the latest high-tech rides, especially coasters, it retains its heritage, and inspires feelings of nostalgia, and a longing for times past. Beautifully treed and landscaped, it exudes old-world charm. The food, particularly the funnel cakes and Potato Patch Fries, are great, yet Kennywood maintains lovely pavillions where guests are permitted to bring food, and to picnic at will. It is clean and has a very 'hometown' feel. While other parks are larger and more celebrated, Kennywood will always represent the 'best' to me of what a theme park should be.
Pros: Charm, Attractions, Nostalgia
Cons: Too far from Florida!
