amazing restaurant in miami

Worst

I won't be going back. I've heard great reviews about Karu & Y, but unfortunately I can't report the same. Food was over cooked, definitely not worth the money.

Super Cool Club...but beware... 3/30/2009

Awesome place but beware of the drinks. Ordered 3 drinks. 1 Melon Vodka and soda & 2 RedBull Vodkas for $45.00. All of us agreed we got probably a thimbles worth of vodka. So..we never ordered anymore drinks that night. My advice to bartenders to pour a thimble worth of booze in a drink, you are only screwing yourself. We were all going to buy rounds and instead we only bought 1 round because of the little to no alcohol in the drinks. Please....dont jip people. In the end, it is you who loses out. Pros: Awesome Space Cons: Overpriced drinks with no booze more

The best club and food in Miami 2/23/2009

The first thing is this. Karu has new owners and chef. To be fair to them you must disregard any reviews before December 2008. The new owners took over and revamped the whole place from top to bottom. Including decor and staff. The place is out of control! You can basically go to five different clubs or lounges in one night without leaving. The place is huge with indoor and very tropical outdoor areas. One area has cabanas with a stream running in front of them from a reflecting pool. You cross little bridges to get to them. There are waterfalls and waterwalls all over the place. Very relaxing. The staff is great too. The bartenders are very accommodating and helpful. The security staff is a big presence there so you feel comfortable but they are not in the way. You can?t just walk through the door but at the same time, they realize how the economy is and are a little more lenient these days. They still do a great job of keeping the place packed with beautiful people and keeping the rift raft out. Now the food. One word describes the food. Ridiculous! Yes in a good way. The new chef is just amazing. There are 3 different menus. There is something for every one. If you want an incredible sit down dinner, you got it. If you want some kicked up bar food, you will be more than satisfied or if you just want a snack, you can have that too. They serve food all night long. I think until 3 or 4 am. I recommend the Kobe Beef burgers and the Lobster Corn Dogs. Yes, it is true it isn?t in the best area. However, the owners have worked out a deal with the Miami Police to beef up patrol of the area. They have valet or a good option is a cab. I took a cab from SoBe. It was $15 each way with tip. Valet is $20. For $10 more, you can take a cab from just about anywhere in SoBe. Venture downtown and check the place out. You won?t be disappointed. more

Great atmosphere 12/13/2008

This is one of Miami's best nightclubs. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. The people who come here are decent and well dressed for the most part. There are 4 rooms, one being mostly hip-hop, the terrace being house, and 2 other rooms inside with mixed music. VIP is great. We had our runner come check on us frequently and always kept our mixers topped off. Its a great place to meet people. The crowd is mostly young between 21-28 so it get lively in here. You must check this place out. And make sure you park your car valet. At $20 its cheap and your car is safe as well as you will be when you exit the club; the neighborhood is not the best. The drinks are a bit on the expensive side but well worth it. Bottles start at around $250. If you order single drinks from the bar, you can get a glass of Moet for $14, or say a single Grey goose and cranberry for about $16. Make sure you arrive early if you aren't VIP because they keep the flow of people coming in controlled and your probably going to wait a god 30-60 minutes if you arrive after 12:00. Pros: Service, atmosphere, drinks Cons: expensive more

worst experience 9/26/2008

I went on thursday 9/25 for the reopening , it was the worse experience. First of all i had reservations and was outside the club at midnight i didn't get in until 1:20am the club was way to crowded. after spending $1,200 for my party of 6 to try to be comfortable at our table in vip it got more crowded than the regular part of the floor only learning the reason behind that is because if you tipped the guard $10 or $20 he would let you into vip. i know he made money than we had to wait over an hour to get our car from vip because the forced everyone to park vip and they wouldn't give you your own keys to go get your own car. I'm really hoping that this is because it was the reopening night cause i know a lot of people who are never going again. Pros: the club looks nice Cons: rude workers all around, very unorganized especially for first night opening more

Good Times, Great Atmosphere! 6/26/2008

I dont know what place these people are talking about but i LOVE this place! Great service, beautiful decor, and good music! The only bad thing is that it's location is not all that good, its in the middle of the "hood". I only recommend that you valet your car because the area is a little sketchy. Other than that VIP is ridic and the crowd is always great! Its a must when you are in Miami! Saturdays and Thursdays are really good :)! Pros: Decor, Crowd, Service, Music Cons: Location more

Worst place you can go. Rude security, extremely shady 5/5/2008

I took my sister, my wife and 3 other girls to this club last Friday. The first problem I faceed with it is that the bars will not provide you with a detail check. They only give you the credit card summary, unless you fight with them to get you a detailed check. My bill had extra drinks or "extras" not ordered. Second, if your wife is tired and closes her eyes while sittind down in one of the private tables that costed us about $500.00 you get kicked out and called a drunk (even though I am a designated drived who hadn't drink any achohol). Yes, I was grabbed by my neck and kicked out of the club for absolutely no reason (unless, trying to talk to a rude security guard is a reason). If you are wondering, I am a not a college kid, I am a 35 year old executive at a fortune 500 company with a PhD from the University of Maryland. And I am handicapped. NEVER GOING BACK THERE AND I URGE YOU TO BOYCOTT IT!! Pros: Nothing at all Cons: Security, Billing, Treatment more

The worst food ever 1/24/2008

This is the worst restaraunt I have ever eaten at. The waiters were completely inept, it seems as if they were hired for looks as opposed to ability. They need to fire this chef Pros: none Cons: everything more

Food needs IMPROVEMENT 1/18/2008

This place has a confusion of entity, restaurant, lounge and club. What is it? If I go to a restaurant that is this upscale I expect the best from service to food. The food is weak, flavors can't comprehend. Styles don?t care for it. I guess that is the reason fine dining restaurants don't make it in this city, due to substandard Food. Is it the Chef? I guess, this is just one instance of his repeated failure to do his job. Pros: Y lounge Cons: Food more

WORST FOOD EVER 1/16/2008

this is the worst food I ever had!!!! no words can describe the dissapointment, took clients there trying to impress them instead i was embarrased and these were "vip" clients which no one even knew who they were but, owner of very high profile companies. to say the least my food was cold, tasteless i just dont understand why if the place is so beautiful...I will not return to eat... Pros: ambiance, decor Cons: worst food ever, fire chef more

Upscale all the way! 1/14/2008

Being in all around the world best , best restaurants is easy to say but hard to acomplish: there are already a few really good ones. Not once but about 4 - 5 times we, my husband and I and, in a couple of ocassions with our daughters and some family members and friends, had the pleasure of eat at Karu & Y. This is the only thing that I will say about a restaurant, and I think it's more that enough to say. Excellent food, gorgeous presentation, unique combination of flavors to pleased the most demanding palate. Awesome all the way! Pros: Excellent decor and ambience. Incredible innovative and out of this world food. A+++++++ Cons: The sorroundings, the city is only the City Manager problem and it must be improved. more

The Food is Terrible 1/11/2008

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MANAGEMENT DOES NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE FOOD OR WHO EVER INCHARGE IS. HONESTLY THE FOOD IS BAD. I GUESS NO ONE LISTENS. KEEP IT UP KARU; YOU ARE HEADING THE RIGHT DIRECTION. IF I WAS THE OWNER I WILL FIRE WHO EVER IS IN CHARGE OF CREATING THIS SO CALL CULINARY ARTISTRY...HORRIBLE. Pros: Decor, Service Cons: Food, Chef. Location more

Beautiful restaurant but food needs work 1/7/2008

Beautiful restaurant but food needs work. The decor of this place is amazing; there is a gorgeous Dale Chihuly chandelier in the center of the dining room. The waiters are dressed in very chick outfits, but in my opinion the food does not fit this place. It?s hard to understand and the menu does not have an identity. Food is not up to quality of the restaurant, prices are too high for what it is. Food wasn?t fresh and lack flavor. The couple of dishes I had did not make sense and not executed correctly. Desserts were atrocious. I hope they appoint the challenge of this establishment because it has a potential of success. After reading the reviews now I agree with them. Pros: Decor Cons: Food more

Great Place!!! 1/7/2008

I recently visited Karu for my anniversary dinner and the experience was remarkable. Aside from the beautiful decor and friendly staff, the food was delicious. I had the Kobe Steak and my boyfriend had the short ribs. The food was scrumptious ? everything was well-seasoned and tender. The chocolate dessert we shared was mouthwatering (next time I?m getting my own). After dinner, we headed to the club next door until the late hours. The night was AWESOME!! I look forward to our next visit. more

FANTASTIC New Year's Eve Meals & Music! 1/5/2008

And my most recent visit to Karu & Y was on New Year's Eve. It was $400 for a preset menu for two, which in my opinion, was a reasonable price considering the quality of the food served and what other restaurants were charging for that night. We started off with with duck three ways (prosciutto, confit, and foiegras) - all of which were delicious (confit being my favorite!!). The entree was a very very tasty snapper. Dessert was a variety of petitfours (choc. covered strawberries, cheesecake, mousse in choc. cups, etc). Everything was perfect, delicious & beautiful. Afterwards we walked over to the Y Lounge where the music was lowered enough for everyone to shout the countdown to midnight- AWESOME! We spent the remainder of the night dancing and drinking yummy cocktails. By far the best New Year's Eve I've ever had. I plan on celebrating my next Birthday there!! The hostess even called us a few days later to thank us for our visit & to ask if we had a pleasant time. Who could ask for more?! Karu and Y is elegant, classy, and overall a fun place to be. Those who put this chef's innovative cuisine down simply do not have the palate for fine dining. The four (or more) times I have been there I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. I have to say that the chef is always on his game because THE FOOD IS CONSISTENTLY FANTASTIC! ! Pros: Food! Service, ambience, NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY! Cons: None more

Great service, great vibe, great CHEF! 1/4/2008

I royally enjoyed the food, atmosphere and design. There are many places in Miami that dont do the restaurant and service industry justice. I am a personal friend of the chef and know that he has put his heart and soul into the taste of the food, adding his own unique touches to traditional entrees as well as creating new ones. Such a great place! Pros: Food, Ambience, Decor Cons: Parking, Location more

Great food and atmosphere 1/3/2008

We were very pleasantly surprised last month when we went to the restaurant for my parent's anniversary. The food was very good and the atmosphere was enjoyable. We will highly recommend it and expect to return soon. Pros: Ambience Cons: Service could be a little faster more

WORST FOOD EVER 1/3/2008

My husband and I decided to try restaurant again! The restaurant and lounge looks amazing but the food is another story. I ordered the red snapper, instead I received dry, flavorless fish and what appeared to look like fishsticks tasted like aged croquettas that one would buy from a grocery store. Again we aren't the most critical foodies, but it's obvious from what is good and bad, and this meal was awful. My husband and I were extremely dissapointed what started as a romantic dinner filled with high expecations ended as an insult to our palette and our pockets. Karu-y is the worst restaurant on my list no wonder Zagat gave them the worst rating in Miami. I much rather eat at Pollo Tropical than at this place. If you want to party I strongly recommend the club. But I will be boycotting the restaurant until they replace the chef. Pros: beautiful decor and drink menu Cons: bad food, bad crowd more

Gotta LOVE IT! 1/3/2008

WOW! When my husband and I walked in to the restaurant I was so impressed with the place that it took a while for me to remember that I was there for the food! I was already pleased with the evening even if the food would turn out ok- but I was so happy to also see how a place with all that class had also a great chef working in the kitchen and some serious great service. you gotta love it! Try it out and you won't be sorry thanks Karu & Y! more

  • In Short
Everything you've heard about the lavish 25,000 square foot eatery is true. From the icicle chandelier sculpted by Dale Chihuly to the waterfalls and reflecting pool by the entrance, water and glass play major thematic elements in setting the fluid mood. Pre-theater crowds arrive early and the club hoppers show up late to feast on exotic "alta cocina" eats like octopus carpaccio and oxtail lasagna, and assorted tapas that pack big flavor into small portions.
