Avoid this business at all costs!!!! 9/9/2014

I placed a deposit on a Saturday and cancelled on Monday. 500.00 mistake. K9 companions has no concern for your dog.  You and your pet are only $$ to them. I was new to owning a bulldog.  After realizing I was in over my head I was looking to get Clyde trained. His constant behavior issues were making it difficult on this single dad. I called on a Friday and met with them the next day.  I expressed a concern this is the last step or I have to find him a new home. I was a very easy sell, I placed the 500 deposit for a 3 week period and yes I signed paperwork.  I just felt overwhelmed at the moment with the issues and felt this would somehow make the situation easier.  What new pet owner hasn't felt this way and made a poor choice.  It could happen to anyone of you. During the tour I was shown the facility.  It is in NO WAY accommodating for short nose breeds.  First - It's outdoors, they have 1 wall mounted fan with a mister.   Any bulldog owner knows they cannot take the heat.  She could sense my concern and showed me a laundry room where if it gets too hot they would put Clyde.  I did not see any air conditioner nor did it feel air conditioned.  Even in a warm house Clyde would overheat and vomit.  So I did not trust they had proper means to take care of him.  Second - The trainer herself said that they would either use a choke chain or a prod collar for training.  Any bulldog lover knows that they have a hard enough time breathing standing in place without having someone impede their breathingg or worse, crush their trachea.   Third - they use deprivation training. Meaning your dog is kept in a kennel all day every day with their only break is when being trained.   It wasn't until trying to find Clyde a home that I heard about these methods.  I would not be surprised if they lost bulldogs. Heat is a bulldogs kryptonite.   Please let my mistake teach you a lesson you don't have to make.  If you love your pet BUYERS BEWARE!!!  If this review is of any help please tell them. more

Changed our family's life 5/17/2009

My family had a doberman pinscher that we were very attached to. Problem was the dog was totally destructive -- to the point where we were going to have to get rid of him (and break my children's hearts). I had always been skeptical of the idea of dog training in general. I figured that you might be able to make marginal improvements to a dog, but not totally solve their problems. I doubt change this dramatic can happen all the time, but K-9 Companions totally transformed our dog. We got a consultation where his problems were diagnosed, then he was kept at the kennel several weeks, we picked him up and got a lesson on their training field, and we got follow up lessons at our home afterward. My expectation of what was possible for our dog were totally exceeded. If you have challenges as big as ours, I recommend K-9 Companions. more
