I travel to KC area 4-5 weeks a year, hands down Oklahoma Joe's has the best bbq in town. you must get the fries and use the bbq sauce on them.

Worst

I have tried BBQ all over the US. Even though poor ole Joe does not have proper BBQ pedigree yet is so proud of his heritage that he opened a joint in KANSAS and called it Oklahoma Joes (which does take Kahunas itself), his BBQ is worth a try. The pulled pork is better than M&Ms. And smoked beans- just down right good. I tried the spicey slaw once and now I am hooked. I give the joint a double oinker for flavor, orginality and price. This place is the best- yes I like the rest on the list and have tried them all (too much). OK Joe's has the best smoked meat - especially the pulled pork and the chicken - I like Bryants sauce more but sauce is a personal choice - good meat is just that - very consistent here and it is DEFINITELY the best food you will ever have in a gas station. Over rated 12/15/2003

I think this place is over rated. The sauce is way too sweet for me. I think when you have two bottles of sauce on the table one not being your brand says it all! Love the food, hate the wait! 12/10/2003

I love the food at Oklahoma Joes and agree that the fries are to die for! I wish they'd offer their burnt ends platter more often, but can never get enough of the rest of their food! One tip - call ahead for takeout - the lines can be really long! Especially as more people discover this diamond in the rough. more

KC's Worst BBQ? 8/24/2003

I don't understand why some people would rate this place better than a 5. Beef and ribs are dry and the sauce is way too sweet. In my opinion this is not a true Kansas City BBQ but an import pretending to be KC BBQ. Still, it beats Memphis or St. Louis BBQ. Remember, even the worst KC BBQ joint still beats anywhere else in the USA. Pros: quick, pricing Cons: sauce too sweet, meat dry more

Oklahoma Joes is the best BBQ in KC. The fries are to die for, the sandwiches are fantastic. The atomosphere is not classy at all, but the food is great. Check this place out for sure. more

Is there anyplace else on earth where you can watch corporate casual's flock into a gas station for great BBQ. The fries may be the best in town and the pulled pork sandy is right up there as well. You'll enjoy the entire experience. more
