Best

I travel to KC area 4-5 weeks a year, hands down Oklahoma Joe's has the best bbq in town. you must get the fries and use the bbq sauce on them.

Worst

It was Okay..The ribs was like baked ham,I like pork ribs just not cooked like that. The menu didn't have a lot of choice and the beans had no flavor. Pros: Parking Cons: ...

Top 3 BBQ Joint in KC 6/5/2007

Oklahoma Joe's is a great place to experience the world famous KC BBQ. Located in a gas station on Kansas City's westside I was shocked how great the food was upon my first visit. Since then I have become a frequent visitor of this food establishment. I strongly recommend the Z-man sandwich for any first time visitor and the french fries are addicitive. The atmosphere is different. If you visit during the lunch hour it will normally is very busy, and you may have to wait for 15 plus minutes. Also seating can be difficult to find. If you happen to visit OK Joe's with a group I would suggest having one person in your party reserving a table while the rest of the group orders lunch. Pros: Great KC BBQ and a reasonable price Cons: Located in a gas station more

Just Plain Nasty!!! 10/7/2006

My job had Oklahoma Joe's cater for our picnic and their food was ""just plain nasty"". The sauce wasn't even that good. In order to eat the bland meat (beef and pork) i had to drown it in Barbecue sauce and i saw that everyone else did the same. The sauce wasn't even that good. And don't let me start on the baked beans......OMG I have never in my life had beans that bad. Oklahoma Joe's is a Waste of Money and so obviously overated. Cons: The food is Horrible!!! more

decent BBQ awful beans 9/14/2006

I'll admit that BBQ is a personal thing, but OK Joe's is not mine. The ribs are okay, but the beans are just nasty. Pros: gas station novelty Cons: beans more

Best Sandwich Ever 7/12/2006

has anyone tasted a better sandwich than the Zman? I moved away but still have Okie Joe's ship me BBQ sauce. Best BBQ i've ever had, hands down. Pros: food is great, fries, portions Cons: busy, some say that it is in a gas station is a bad thing, but it adds to the allure I think. more

Great food! 5/11/2006

I must say that Oklahoma Joe's has the best fries and barbeque that I have tasted in KC(15-years). Great Value!!! With the food being such a great value during lunch and dinner times they are very crowded with next to nowhere for you to park, but it's worth it. The staff is always pleasant regardless of the rush. I would have to agree with the atmosphere, being inside of a gas station and next to a liquior store, to not be the most comfortable spot to dine in. Most of the places that put all the $$$ into the atmosphere are falling short when it come to some good quality tasting food. Maybe the ohter BBQ spots should have their menu catered by Ok Joe's!?!?!? Pros: Fried, Ribs, Chicken Cons: Crowded, No Parking more

One of my favorites 12/4/2005

My folks have a Locker Plant in Iowa and I have developed a discriminating taste for good food since I have eaten the best since growing up. Oklahoma Joes makes my favorite sandwich in K.C. it is called the 'Z-man'. Provolone cheese, an onion ring or 2 on top of brisket with sauce. It is spectacular. As for the ambience if you want a more polished restraunt there is a new OK. Joes in Olathe that I haven't been to yet but I like the authenticity of the Gas station/liquor store. Granted I wouldn't take a first date here but I would take a third date here if she was really cool. A very casual place to eat. Pros: Resonabley priced, my favorite sandwich, tasty ribs Cons: not a lot of seating, parking limited more

Yumm! 11/20/2005

We have gone out of our way to eat at Oklahoma Joe's. The BBQ is awesome. I love the pulled pork and the fries! The ribs are really good too, but I have to say the pulled pork is my favorite. Their sausage is really good also. more

Forget the ""famous"" BBQ joints... 6/4/2005

When I was living in Kansas City a coworker turned me on to this place, and it was my favorite BBQ joint in town. Short on atmosphere (what do you expect in the back of a gas station?) but GREAT pulled pork sandwiches (Hank Williams on the radio a nice touch too). The people are friendly and the value is tremendous. If you're a fan of BBQ, add this to your list. Pros: food, value, service Cons: atmosphere more

If you're not the biggest fan of KC BBQ... 6/2/2005

I relocated from the South and miss good southern BBQ (sweet & sticky!). OK Joe's is not quite southern but really good. Must have the babybacks and fries. Can't go wrong. And where else can you get red cream soda from the fountain! Pros: ribs, fries Cons: often busy, liquor store next doo more

MOST Excellent BBQ in KC. 3/29/2005

And probably the best BBQ ever! GREAT atmosphere... perfect BBQ touch. You wont leave here hungry. Pros: Looks, Price, Quality Cons: None, None, (maybe parking) more

Trust Me, I've Been Everywhere 7/14/2004

And OK Joe's is excellent barbecue. I'm a foodie a KC native and have been to every famous and notorius BBQ joint in town. The beef Brisket is great, the pulled pork is too. In my opinion, you CANNOT be considered for the barbecue joint Hall of Fame without excellent fries. This place has, maybe, the best fries in town (although I've never tried them at one of those snooty restaurants). They are moderately to heavily seasoned but it's great seasoning! AND they're not starch-coated or battered. They're made on site, hot, crisp, fried twice . . . they know how to do fries! Only down side is that they're closed on Sunday. And during peak meal times the wait is eternal and there is not a good way to order ahead and get to the front of the line to pick-up Pros: Smoked meats, French Fries Cons: , peak time more

not bad from Oklahoma 6/1/2004

One of best bbq joints around....love the sauce...if haven't tried this place you are missing something...would love to have more sitting....remember it's bbq joint.....where bbq should be not a upscale retail spot...great! Pros: best vartiey, great smoked turkey, a great joint more

?????????? 5/25/2004

Best BBQ in KC. Their sauce (Cowtowns) makes the difference. They share a building with a Total gas station, which isn't quite big enough, & it is self service, but the food makes up for it! Pros: Sauce, Chicken Cons: , Small building more
