very poor hosting 5/15/2005

We should have read the reviews before going to Jak's for a family birthday dinner. As previously described the resturant does not take reservations and the seating is controlled by two very uninterested hostices. This is definaltely a ""Local's place"" who get preferencial seating. We were promised a table for six (plus a two week old baby) in two hours. We signed in at 6:45pm and were seated at 9:55pm! It was obvious that people who came in later were seated before us. The bar tender was wonderful and tried to help once we complianed. A complimentary bottle of wine and appitizers. Once at a table - the service and food were very good. Too bad there was no one of responsibility in charge last night. Will not be going back. Pros: good food, bar tender Cons: poor hosting, local's place more

Poor Hosting 2/19/2005

We have learned not to go to Jaks during peak times because of the long waits. On this occasion we arrived at the end of the dinner period and were informed of a 45 minute wait. We decided to wait, sure that the dinner rush was ending. After an hour wait we were ushered into a half empty restaurant and seated at a small table for two. I asked if we could have one of three empty booths that we passed, but no, they were needed for other people that never appeared. On the way out, I noticed that the waiting list was left out on the counter. I located our name and observed that there were only two other names listed after ours. Bottom line: If you dont want to get Jakd around on seating, avoid this restaurant unless you are sure that its not busy when you arrive. Pros: Good food, Good table service Cons: Inept Hosts more

great, if you can get in... 2/15/2005

Since 2000, I have tried to go to Jaks three times more than I have actually gotten in. Had to wait up to an hour for a party of 2 but always had good food & service. I'd go more often but don't want to give them any more of my time & money until they care more about ""customer experience."" Don't take reservations, that's ok but how do you have a 3 hour wait minutes after the doors open? Is there a private list? Are 3 hours worth of people in line before the doors open? Months ago, Jaks closed for remodeling, the front desk is closer to the front door but there are no extra seats that I can see, the wait is just as long. Was the front desk moved closer to the front door so people who are turned away don't have as far to walk? Pros: steak, cocktails, bread/salad Cons: no reservations, long waits, unsympathetic hosts more

Melt in Your Mouth Steaks 2/4/2005

If you want a melt-in-your-mouth-good steak, go to Jak's. My husband and I have only been 2-3 times, and have had no complaints at all. They do know how to grill a good steak. Pros: great steaks, very good service, nice ambience Cons: parking can be hard more

Good Eats 9/26/2004

I've always wanted to try Jak's Grill and finally got the chance last night. The service was great and the New York Strip was done just right. Our waitress was very courteous and her service was excellent. Now I know why there is quite a wait for a table in the evening! Jak's is a good place for steak. Pros: Moderate Prices, Great Service, Great Location more

stay out of West Seattle 6/30/2004

for those of you who don't like the wait at JaK's then stay home, that will make it easier for those of us who live in West Seattle and love to eat here to get in. We even have a little secret for beating the crowd. We will drop by the restaurant on the way home from work and put our name on the list, then go home for a cocktail. They will call us about 10 minutes before our table is ready, leaving plenty of time to finish our drink and get to the restaurant. more

Great Steakhouse 6/21/2004

Jak's is a great place to have a steak. Great value for the prime meat they serve you too compared to expensive downtown meat palaces. Service is friendly and sincere. You'll get the same level of service whether you order a hamburger or the filet mignon. One tip to avoid an inevitable wait is to simply go early before 6:30pm or so. Food comes quick so this is an ideal place if you don't want to spend 2 hours eating dinner. Pros: great prime meat, sincere service, large portions more

Excellent Service Excellent Food. 6/15/2004

The service was fast the food was great. The price was on average $60 for two so the $$ rating should be $$$. All the specials were sold out be 8:30 when we arrived and the place was packed. All being said and done this place is a GREAT steak house and worth the trip to west seattle. Pros: Excellent Service, Excellent food Cons: , Sold out of specials more

Jak's has gone downhill! 6/15/2004

I used to be a big Jak's fan, but the last 3 times I've eaten there I've been disappointed. The steaks haven't been good at all. After the first disappointment I went back a couple more times, thinking it was a fluke, but it's starting to look like a trend. That's been my experience anyway... Pros: Good service, Good drinks Cons: , Gone Downhill! more

Not wow......WOW 6/2/2004

I can't help but snicker at those who without eating at Jak's, won't recommend it and complain because of the wait. Even with reservations, someone is going to have to wait. First come first serve is great, and if you call ahead, they will let you know what the wait time is. There are three Jak's now, the food is consistent at all of them, try another location! This is the best restaurant in Seattle, bar NONE!!! For those who can afford to throw money away at overpriced steak shacks...good for you. Jak's ownership offers a more than fair meal for a very fair price. Besides a fair priced meal, the flavor, the ambience, the service is all beyond compare. Jak's is more than worth the wait. I have recommended Jak's over and over again. There is no finer place to go for steak, lamb, seafood, and what a burger!!! Pros: service, price, quality more

Jak's is the BEST 6/2/2004

The steaks are superb. The service is unmatched - friendly, knowledgeable, casual yet classy. The atmosphere is trendy but not 'too' cool - it has attitude but anyone fits in. The value is unbeatable - so much for so little! Friends who are steak conisseurs can be taken with confidence! An all around great experience. Pros: Good Parking, GREAT food, Excellent prices more

Great Food for a Great Price 6/2/2004

I took my out-of-town family there on a recommendation, and did not regret it. Food was delicious, prices were extremely reasonable for portions, and the wait staff were very friendly and accomodating. I can not say the same for Metro Grill (horrible steak, very stuck up service). I have gone back to Jak's 3 times since, and loved it every time. The wait is a bit long, but I never had more than a 1-hr wait, if that. So I'm surprised that others are writing that there was a 2+hr wait. Maybe I was lucky... Pros: Great food, Reasonable prices, fast/friendly service Cons: , no reservations taken more

Best Restaurant in Seattle 3/24/2004

Jak's is simply the best steak restuarant in Seattle. The food is consistently phenomenal, no matter if you order steak, seafood or the daily specials. What you may not know is that Jak's has the best burger in town. The staff are awesome, and the whole experience cannot be beat. Pros: Exellent Food, Location, Experience more

Wow, at half the price! 3/11/2004

The best steak in town and at a price that allows you to go twice as often. Each meal comes with salad, vegetable and choice of baked, garlic mashed or potato pancakes (you can even have half garlic and half potato pancake). Three of us recently each had a steak and two of us had a drink each and the bill was $75.00, can't beat that. Pros: great drinks, good parking Cons: no reseravations more

Simply the best! 2/27/2004

I eat at JaK's quarterly at the very least, and I'm treated like a king every time. I'm either really lucky, or rather well liked, because I've never had more than an hour's wait, even on a Friday. Each dish, no matter how many times I have it, is a new experience. Don't cheat yourself any longer. The wait is more than worth it... Pros: Steaks, Chops more

H Wells 2/19/2004

The porterhouse was a little overpriced but very tasty however the mashed potatoes were very bland..I have never had to add salt and pepper until here. As an ""alternative lifestyler"" I appreciate honest and fair treatment. I received that here on valentine's day. we were told to expect a 90 minute wait and were called after 30. We abandoned our drinks at another establishment and enjoyed our meal and the experience at Jak's Grill. I guess in comparison to downtown steakhouses Jak's comes up a little short in my book. Am I a snob? Probably. Pros: felt welcome, quality meat, nice wine selection Cons: , poor wait estimate more

check in early 2/4/2004

Jak's grill IS the best steakhouse in seattle for your money. Because of this they seat on a first come first serve basis. In order to avoid the hour long wait for a table show up early to put your name on the list and bring your cellphone. While youre waiting go have some coffee and the hostess will call you when your table is ready. Brilliant no? Pros: large portions, excellent price, no children Cons: , no appetizers more

Seattle's Best 10/24/2003

Forget The Met or Daniel's...this is the best steakhouse in Seattle. Large portions, cooked to perfection, and reasonably priced. It's well worth the wait. Pros: good food, Value, Servings Cons: Long wait more

Best Steak in Town 6/20/2003

This was the best steak I've had in a long time and at a great price. I asked for it to be cooked rare and that is exactly what I got. I'll definately go back again. I'd also like to say that people shouldn't rate a place unless they've actually eaten there. more

Wait, schmait.. great steaks 6/6/2003

I'd just like to say to all the reviewers who based their rating strictly on the wait... WAH! Go someplace else, they probably don't want your ""type-A"" personality there anyway! Or as an alternative, go early, put in your name and take a walk around downtown W. Seattle for a while.. or grab a drink somewhere close by and leave them your cell #. They're usually pretty good about giving you a worst-case-scenario wait time so you won't be misled. Bottom line, Jak's offers what few steakhouses can offer.. top notch steaks at reasonable prices. Not to mention the down to earth atmosphere. Pros: Steaks, Inexpensive, Ambiance Cons: Small bar area more
