Not for families nothing like Vegas 5/17/2010

Call me spoiled but when I stay in a hotel that cost Almost $400 for 2 nights I want to be pampered. My husband and I wanted to escape from the dreary economy for a weekend and forget our worries... to no avail. I called a few hours in advance to book our stay (It was a five hour drive.) The guy on the phone said that our suit had french doors that opened up into a balcony with a gorgeous view of the mountains a jacuzzi and a king size bed. I called the front desk to ask about getting some extra pillows in our room the lady who answered said that those type of things are handled by the day crew and she would try to find something. When we arrived the guy had taken down my credit card wrong and my reservations had been cancelled. They fixed that and got us into our sweet but we had to haul our own luggage up at 2am in the morning I guess that is only handled by the day crew as well? When we reached our top floor we were greeted by a blinding bright green and the room was no better with an awful yellow to match. My 2 year old liked the rainbow wall paper in the bathrooms though. I opend up our french doors into not a balcony but bars! And a beautiful view of... a parking lot, roof tops and a hill with dirt and some trees. So we went to bed and woke up to maids laughing and talking in the hall ways and slamming doors. My husband talked to a manager and he was told that it wasn't the maids but when my husband opened our door maids were the only people he saw. They never mentioned on the phone, when I told them I had a two year old that they were one of 2 casinos in the entire town that would allow children in. There are no shows or programs to take the family to. There is a museum in the town but it was closed until oprah season whenever that is. But there is a thrift store. Any way we went to the buffet for breakfast and lunch for lack of options. At breakfast the server spilled drinks all over the man walking behind me and at lunch another server dropped all of the dirty plates all over my chair and table. Luckily the server was there to see my husband take a bite of his tough and dry prime rib only to bite into a piece of shell from an oyster that got lodged into the roof of his mouth...OUCH! The emergency guy was over to the table in no time to make sure my husband was okay but he had a hard time eating anything the rest of the weekend. My daughter was sitting on my lap when she peed on my only good pair of pants (you know she's 2 and potty training) I called down to the front desk to ask if they provided cleaning services for my pants, I guess it was a silly request because the girl at the front desk seemed almost annoyed that I would even ask. Oh by the way there our several buttons on the phone... Valet, house keeping, guest service.... don't bother they all go to front desk and when they pick up they always seems to be hesitant to help you like your bothering them. And the cleanliness of the place is highly questionable. I wish I would have brought some comet with me and a dust cloth. Oh well at least the hot tub was big enough for my daughter to swim around in and there is a TV in the bathroom so she could watch cartoons while she was swimming. 1 star for the hot tub. Pros: Only thing that saved us was the hot tub Cons: the cons were customer service, nothing to do except gamble more

Blackhawk Casino - Not recommended for staying and eating! 5/3/2010

I remember when this place first opened, it was the place to go. Over the years it has become rundown and cheap! The food has really gone downhill too. You can't get crablegs on weekends anymore, and most of the food on the buffet is overheated and dried out. Not worth what you have to pay if you don't have a comp to use. Many times staying in the hotel, our room(s) had peeling wallpaper, dirty carpets and/or burnt out lights etc... It's always really HOT in the rooms too. No matter what you do, the rooms are stuffy and hot. I would give it a one star rating in quality of the hotel / buffet. There are newer hotels in Blackhawk with much nicer accomodations and better food choices. You get what you pay for. Pros: Large Casino / Hotel Cons: Rundown guest room and nasty buffet more

Felt like Hawaii with out the Ocean 4/7/2009

A buddy and myself gamble at Central City and Black Hawk about once everyother week. One of the casinos, sent us One comp room each. The Suite was fantastic. It almost felt like Heaven. I LOVE THE HOT TUB !!!!! One bad part is the Casino's Close from 2am to 8am. But I heard that will be changing soon. Great way to play games and have a chance to WIN !!!!!!!!! Pros: Buffet was world Class Cons: Hard to find the Check in Desk more

Great Food & Entertainment 3/11/2009

(I've been there on a Friday and they don't have any bands.) The music is fun! I don't have to gamble as much to stay entertained. Calypso's Buffet is really great and there's always coupons if you're a member. There is a great little deli/grill that is great for the end of the night to cure all those hunger pains. Pros: Live Music on Saturdays Cons: Live Music only on Saturdays more

Excellent Service and Menu! 7/24/2008

My husband and I visited the Isle of Capri and Farraday's for my birthday in May. It had been a few years since we had been to both and we had an excellent experience. Farraday's is my favorite Steakhouse in Colorado, I would rank it up there with Craft Steak at the MGM in Vegas, Besh Steak in New Orleans or Ruth's Chris. The menu is varied and has something for everyone. The blackened Prime Rib is my favorite and something I would definitely recommend! We also added the Alaskan King Crab legs and they were delicious, sweet and lots of crabmeat. Our Waiter recommended we also try the Cheesecake they bring in from New York. It was a fantastic recommendation! I'm not a big cheesecake fan but my husband is so we tried it. It was the best we have ever had. Our Waiter really made outstanding recommendations, he was right on with everything he told us and his service was the best! The prices were exactly as I would expect for a nice Steakhouse. We have friend's visiting from Florida this weekend and I just made a reservation to take them to Farraday's! Pros: The Service, Menu Selections, Atmoshphere, Great restaurant for Special Occasions! more

Outdated and Expensive 12/18/2006

It was my birthday recently and I wanted to go to the casinos for the night. Our biggest mistake was choosing the Isle of Capri. The hotel was decorated in day glow green and yellow and horribly outdated. The ""upscale"" restaurant, Farradday's, only had upscale prices. The food was mediocre in most cases and in some cases downright nasty (think institutional canned corn). I expect better food when the tab comes to more than a $100 for two people. Cons: bad restaurant, horrible decor more
