I was a patient of Ironwood for several years, first for gynecology, then for obstetrics. My GYN, Dr. Schuppert was great but she doesn't do OB, so I switched to Dr. Laird for my first pregnancy. Dr. Laird is nice but she literally spent less than five minutes with me at every appt. I only saw her for the first half of my pregnancy because when I tried to discuss labor options and how I was interested in natural childbirth, she said that we can try but that c-sections are actually preferable because they are much faster and safer.
Even if you aren't interested in natural childbirth, still find another office that understands something about insurance. I informed the doctor and the billing office at the beginning of my pregnancy that my insurance covers two ultrasounds. They sent me to get the first two in the first two months of my pregnancy and then the doctor recommended another. I mentioned the two ultrasound rule and she said it was a standard thing and the insurance would cover it. Then a billing office rep called me the day of the ultrasound and ""informed"" me that my insurance only covers two ultrasounds. I told her I knew that and if that meant I shouldn't have the one scheduled that day. She said no, that the doctor ordered it, and that they had talked to the insurance and that they would cover it because it was medically necessary. So I had it. Insurance did not cover it and the office said that I should have told the doctor I didn't want it. Sorry, but it's my first pregnancy... I do what the doctor says and hope that she's doing things for the best interest of my baby, not for her wallet. Obviously, that's not the case here.
