Authentic Italian in Ballard 3/14/2009

When we first stopped in here it was on a whim, with no reservations. It felt cosy as soon as we walked in. The hostess immediately took us upstairs to a romantic table for two looking down to the first floor. We were presented with a wonderful affordable wine menu. The server was well educated on the wines and offered a great suggestion. The menu was so hard to choose from. We ordered two selections when we usually share one because we could not decide. As we waited for dinner, the server brought warm bread and olive oil. When the food arrived it had a simple yet elegant presentation and looked delicious. We spent the next 1/2 hour or so moving back and forth between each others plates. The portions were large and the leftovers made a great lunch the next day. We saved room for dessert which was again hard to choose from but decided on a simple tiramasu. Excellent! All in all, it was a simple, delicious meal with great service. Pros: Homey, Romantic, Service, Food Cons: Small more

My husband and I are regulars at this wonderful, italian restaurant in an old cozyhouse. We love the warm staff and environment (although we can do without the singing duo that appears some nights- ay!). While the overall menu is good, the pastas are the best in the area. Warm bread, good service. The sauces are perfect- especially for the tortollini, linguine w/ clam, gnocci and ravioli. The veal dishes are also nice. We have also enjoyed some nice wines there. We recommend weekday nights, its quieter. Pros: the pastas, service Cons: weekends its too busy, no parking more

5 Stars 6/12/2008

Unless you can't afford 60 bucks for a great, intimate dinner for 2 (maybe more/less depending on wine)- this place is outstanding. We had a great caprese salad, followed by two great pasta dishes (gnochi and penne pasta). The service was outstanding and the decor reminded us of our trip to Florence. Again, if you live in this area, this is a must visit! more

Fantastic food and atmosphere 5/25/2008

We just ordered at this place 4 days ago and I haven't enjoyed food that good at these prices very often. I ordered Pollo Marsala (sauteed chicken breast with mushrooms and sweet marsala wine). I spent most of my mealtime savoring the flavor. My daughter had Gnocchi Di Patate (small potato dumplings, sauteed with garlic, italian sausage, mozzarella, basil and tomatoe sauce.) When I saw the description, I thought of my Mom's potatoe dumplings and it didn't appeal, BUT when I had one bite of this, I knew what I would be ordering on our next visit. This dish is fine and complex - wonderful sauce and perfectly textured dumplings with a savory flavor to them. Very satisfying dish. I don't understand the review of the one-star visitor - this is a family business and it could be you caught them on an off night. My advice would be to try again. AND!!!! Friday nights they have live Italian trattoria musicians strolling the dining room!!!!! Pros: Authentic Italian food Cons: Parking more

Pleasant surprise 5/14/2008

Finally went to check this place out, having watched them remodel it for months. Nice atmosphere, cute bar, great and very friendly service and very good food. The Caprese salad was possibly the best I've ever had, the gnocchi were fantastic. Prices were fine, not cheap, but not overpriced either (at least for our choices). The little rolls that come before dinner are exceptional as well. Definitely worth checking out, a nice addition to the neighborhood. Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

I ate here on valentines day and the service was horrible....For 1 they sat us at and then 10min later made us move to a new table, saying it was because it was reserved for someone else at 6pm and they forgot... when 6pm rolled around no one showed up. 2nd the food was terrible....I would have to say a frozen lean cuisine dinner would have tasted better. I would not recommend this resturant to anyone that likes to eat good food, if you don't care what your eating then go for it....But I will never eat here again. Cons: Service and food more
