I dined here recently and was disappointed. Nothing about the meal was particularly memorable save for one detail - the salt. The pesto that comes with the bread is very salty. ...

I love this restaurant! 6/24/2003

I have been to Il Cantuccio several times and every time has been a wonderful experience! The last time I was there, I became engaged, so add romantic to their wonderful qualities! The food served is delicious and very filling...you never leave hungry! The staff is friendly and attentive. It is a relaxing time. The restaurant is perfect for an intimate dinner or for a lively time with a large group. I have referred many friends and family to Il Cantuccio and every one of them loved it. I can't give the restaurant justice in words, so treat yourself to a great time...try Il Cantuccio! Pros: Reasonable Prices, Friendly Staff, Good Food Variety Cons: Mission Parking more

Into its own 4/18/2003

I started going here over a two years ago, when Il Cantuccio was one of the few calm places along Valencia that you could walk into any night of the week. Still calm - yes, walking in - not so fast! Now they are discovered and they deserve it - great service and food value is the order of the day. The pumpkin ravioli is almost too good - I can almost never bring myself to try anything else, because how could it be better? This is a great first-date location - great atmosphere for a nice conversation, amazing food to share, without the Cow Hollow/Marina yuppiness, Downtown starchiness or even Mission trendiness that makes so many other places less than ideal. Pros: Cozy atmosphere, Tasty food, Friendly servers Cons: Need reservations, Mission parking more

Just Plain Awesome! 1/21/2003

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday with eight of our friends and we had a great time! Awesome Awesome Food!!! Try the beef carpacio and the salmon carpacio, they melt in your mouth. Definately try the 'seafood stew' from the appetizer menu, I promise you you won't regret it. The crab ravioli has one of the most delicious sauces I've ever had. The lamb chops were awesome, the steak was awesome. I'm definately coming back. Can I say awesome one more time? Pros: Reasonably priced, Good Service Cons: A bit cramped more

My favorite SF italian place so far! 1/11/2003

I have eaten at Il Cantuccio twice and was very happy both times. It wasn't even that difficult finding parking. The bruschetta is some of the best bruschetta I have ever had. I completely overate on the bread with pesto garlic dip because it was so good, and the Gnocchi was also some of the best pasta I have ever had. The ambience and service are impeccable, and the only thing I can really criticize is that perhaps the walkway between the bar and some of the tables is a bit tight. An added plus are the gummi bears that are brought out at the end of your meal! Pros: gummi bears, taste, ambience Cons: none, not even parking more

worth the trip 1/2/2003

My friends and I visited SF from Orange County, CA and had dinner here. Everything about this place is great! Pros: A+customer service, true Italian flavor, GREAT cuisine Cons: parking is poor more

Yum -a delight 12/30/2002

We celebrated my husband's birthday at this wonderful restaurant. The staff was attentive, gracious and the food was absolutely heaven. The gnocci was delicious and highly recommended. All in all a delightful experience and we will pay a repeat visit for my birthday as well. Prices were reasonable... Service great...what more can you ask for. Parking in the neighborhood is an issue, so get there early for the hunt. Pros: god value, great service, delicious food Cons: Parking more

Awesome service, great food. 12/16/2002

We visited this place on Sunday evening and absolutely loved it. The service was awesome and very friendly. We had to wait for the rest of the party to arrive, but they were really patient with that. We had the gnocchi and the ravioli and they were delicious. The tiramisu was good, and the chocolate mousse was light but rich. Don't miss the pesto sauce that they serve out with the bread at start. Pros: Service, Food more

A little taste of Italy 12/16/2002

I ate here last night and was most impressed by the authentic Italian athmosphere. The staff are very relaxed and friendly and speak to each other in Italian along with the hand gesticulcations that the Italians are famous for! The waiter Andrea is very attentive and fun. The antipasto dishes were average, but the entrees and the Tiramisu are to die for. Pros: Tiramisu, Friendly Staff, Athmosphere Cons: Antipasta more

Absolutely Fabulous 8/25/2002

Between the high ratings in Citysearch and the absence of a listing in Zagat's, I figured some foul play might be behind the Citysearch ratings. I just got back from dinner at Il Cantuccio, and I now have total faith in the Citysearch ratings. This restaurant has got it. I had the sole fillet and my date had the mushroom risotto. Both were exceptional and neither was too heavy. We also started off with the salmon appetizer and a bowl of minestrone. The minestrone was slightly better than average, but the salmon was sliced paper thin, spiced perfectly and simply delicious. The prices were great for the quality of food (the above order came to approximately $45) and the service was friendly and quick. The decor was also a nice middle ground between cute and romantic. I'm going back and recommending it to friends. Pros: Food Quality, Value Cons: Mission Parking more

Wonderful! 8/23/2002

Wonderful! I can't say enough about this restaurant! We dinned here this last Saturday night, walked in without reservations and were seated immediately (although the restaurant is small I would recommend calling ahead if you can). When we looked at the menu my husband and I were a bit taken back, being from Minnesota where everything has beef or chicken in it we didn't know quite what to order, but the staff was wonderful in helping us choose (my husband had wild boar tortellini and I had crab stuffed ravioli). The meals were incredibly wonderful...an experience we won't soon forget and one that will most certainly will be repeated on our next visit to San Francisco! Cons: parking more

Deserts to Die For! 8/5/2002

Il Cantuccio offers a colorful old world Tuscan menu topped by fabulous mouthwatering deserts in a yuppie style ambience that makes the experience memorable, and worth a second visit. I would highly recommend the lemon sorbet and tiramisu. Chef and owner Michele is always on hand to offer wine suggestions to accompany favored dishes. Be sure to try the various soups and appetizers that are unique to Il Cantuccio. Definately a thumbs up! I'll be back!! more

Best Of Italy right in the city! 7/24/2002

I am always amazed at the great meal I always get at this resturant. I really enjoy the wine special because it reminds me of the awesome varieties I drank when traveling throught the Tuscan region. My favorite meal is the Tagliata Florentine, which is the a thinly sliced steak with balsamic vinegar sauce. As for the service, I have always been greeted with smile and enjoy talking to the waiters. Overall, I would have to say this place sure gives you the best food and service for your money! more
