I developed the worst word there is for pain in September of 2007. I was seen at a local emergency room, who sent me to an orthopedic spine surgeon. Eventually, I could not do anything because of my severe back pain, which I was diagnosed with a compression fracture. I was unable to get in and out of bed. I crawled on my hands and knees to get out of bed. I was placed on pain medications and then referred to Dr. Kowalkowski at IPPMC. Dr. Kowalkowski performed a vertebroplasty, which depleted my lower back pain. Dr. Kowalkowski completed my work-up and found additional fractures in my thoracic spine and completed his treatment. I had a fall at work. After my fall, I developed right lower back pain, in which I underwent several different kinds of therapies over the last four years. After completing each of my previous therapies, my pain would return. My doctor suggested I try IPPMC. They had available for me different therapies for my back pain. Even though there is no cure for my pain, I feel better knowing that when it flares up and restricts my activities, I can see Dr. Kowalkowski to get the relief I need. I came to this clinic using OxyContin for foot pain that I developed due to blood clots which resulted in my foot almost dying. I had been given OxyContin twice a day for pain control. I did not realize the effect that the OxyContin had on me until I was seen and treated by IPPMC, in which after one visit, Dr. Kowalkowski evaluated me and changed my medications. Since my kidney transplant surgery in which I had complications with my surgery including my abdominal wall tearing, since 1999, I have been trying to be pain free. After my car accident in 2002, I was dealing with a lot of pain and treating primarily with my neurologist for my neck and headache symptoms. I have been with back pain for 43 years after a motor vehicle accident in 1973. I received chiropractic therapy for many years and to no avail. I received acupuncture for six months and nothing seemed to help. My primary care doctor referred me to a spine surgeon which I declined. Six months later I went back to my doctor asking for further help. She then referred me to Dr. Kowalkowski. I was treated on my first visit and I had no pain after that until six months later. Since the age of 17, I have had a gnawing, aching pain in my left hip region. The pain made it difficult for me to walk and I had difficulty participating with my child's activities. I was seen at multiple therapy clinics previous to coming to IPPMC. When I first presented I was in a motorized wheelchair due to a neurological disorder. At this time I am walking. The team at IPPMC, Allen, the physical therapist, has been able to treat my pain areas without causing me discomfort. It has allowed me to gain increased mobility and function. I have had left groin and testicle pain for eight years that has been getting worse over the last year to the point where I was almost unbearable.  I was offered surgery to remove my left testicle in order to help with my pain and that was not going to happen.  I was referred to IPPMC and after two treatments I have 70% improvement of my groin pain and my back pain.  It has done wonders. more
