A response to Randeliowastate 1/27/2011

Gee, RandelIowastate, what happened? Did I call somebody a bitch, a slut, or a whore? Have you ever been to a dueling piano bar before? We don’t discriminate, we call EVERYONE a bitch, a slut, and a whore. It's part of the act (""You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille... you bitch! you slut! you whore!"") and isn't intended to be personal. \r \r How could it be personal? I don't even know who you are. If I actually offended you or your wife, why didn't you say something to me about it in person? I'd have been happy to apologize, buy your table a round of drinks, and shake your hand to smooth over the hurt feelings. Instead, for some reason you chose to air your dirty laundry in this public forum.\r \r So I didn't play your request? What about the other players that night? It is a team effort, after all. Did I somehow prevent the other players from playing your request, or is that nobody on the team knew the song you wanted to hear, but somehow you decided that this was my fault? \r \r And so please let me apologize: \r I am so sorry… \r …that your wife is so thin-skinned. \r I am so sorry… \r …that you could only afford to go to a state school where, apparently, correct spelling is not a requirement. \r \r I really don't know what your motivation is, but I'll tell you this: obviously, you're willing to make an anonymous post on this website and assassinate my character from the safety and comfort of your computer. What courage that must take on your part!\r And thank you for revealing your prejudice against older people in this public forum. I will pray that growing older never happens to you. \r more

Hello I would like to thank the staff for the awesome entertainment and the service I received at Howl at the Moon on Sept 29th. The staff was very attentive and extremely friendly to our group. The duo singing at the piano bar were off the charts. It’s a must see! The staff responds to everyone’s needs immediately. It’s a warm crowd and everyone is friendly. The assistant general manager made sure our group had a wonderful time Pros: Great Staff and Atmosphere at Howl at the Moon more

2 nights of great entertainment 9/14/2009

Hello. I just wanted to thank you for a fun evening of entertainment Friday night. We were invited for a Happy Hour from 5 - 8 pm, got there at 5 and stayed till 11:30! I'd also like to thank you for the Royals tickets ""prize"" that my husband won at your Unicorn song ""dance-off"". The tickets were great - right behind home plate, row M in the Diamond Club - best seats I've ever had at a MLB game. And, Zach Greinke pitched a great 8 innings. Wish the Royals could have won, but, well, it is 2009. Anyway, thanks again for providing great entertainment for 2 fun evenings. Pros: lots of fun more

Don't tust them with your credit card 5/27/2009

My wife recently at HATM and ran a tab on our credit card. At the end of the night she decided to pay cash and hand delivered the money to her waiter. She asked and he assured her the card would not be charged. A few days latter I noticed where they had charged our account anyway. After several calls I finally spoke to the night manager who admitted the receipt was not signed and said he would discuss the transaction with the waiter and call me back. Management never did call me back so I finally just gave up and let my bank handle the fraudulent charges. We will never go back. Cons: Poor management and untrustworthy wait staff more

Best Piano Bar ever! 3/22/2009

I just visited Howl at the Moon in Kansas City for the first time over the weekend. I came in to town for the NCAA tournament and decided to check out the Power and Light complex across from the arena. After my friends and I visited several other bars, we found this one in the corner and decided to venture inside. Once inside, we had a blast. These guys play everything. I tried to stump them with several requests, but they nailed them. I was extremely impressed with the piano players, especially when they switched instruments and played as a band. The group is extremely talented, making us laugh and sing. We stayed for several hours. I plan on visiting a Howl at the Moon whenever I travel. I hope they are all this amazing! Good job! Pros: Awesome entertainment Cons: Too crowded more

Great band, great atmosphere, great prices! 2/17/2009

My spouse and I have been going to HATM since the beginning. We were there for opening night and were hooked instantly. We had visited the HATM in San Antonio while honeymooning there more than a few years ago and had always hoped that we would get one close to home in Kansas City. Needless to say we were thrilled when we got wind that one was going to be opened up here. \r \r On our first visit (opening night), we were treated with the utmost respect (I was in a wheelchair much of the first year they were open). The staff was kind and attentive to our needs. The band members came by one at a time and introduced themselves to us and made us feel so welcome. \r \r Over the last year we have come to know the band members well. We have dined with them, spent time with them and have cherished every single one of them. Including Mike...the bandmember who was let go due to a bad review on citysearch by an angry customer who did not get his way.\r \r This customer claimed to be a regular at the bar, and I would have believed that except for one thing. IF he were a regular at the bar he would have known Mike better and left it at that. Sure sometimes some of the guys have off nights, pressure when there is not a full band and they can't do all the songs they could if the others were there. \r \r For goodness sake, Mike grew up in Texas and then moved to Oklahoma, he knows COUNTRY music. He is also one of the best guitar players we have ever seen in and around the city, so to say he was dragging the team down is just acinine. This person did not get his way so he exacted revenge. \r \r It's pretty sad that one person out of the more than THOUSANDS that have seen this band and it's members perform can leave a band with such a wound. The bands morale has surely been strained at losing one of their members over such a petty issue. I assure you that the bar would not have noticed your absense, nor cared if you never returned. I hope you are proud of yourself. \r \r Shame on you. more

We are so sorry this had to happen 1/26/2009

My wife and I have been coming to Howl since they opened in March and love the players and staff. We were very disappointed a few weekes ago to have their oldest player disparage my wife and others with profanity on stage. We asked that he (Mike) play something other than old country music all night and he lashed out at our table and specifically my wife. He is and has always been dragging this team down with his poor performances, but the skills of the others have been enought to keep us coming back. It is unfortunate that this happened since will we no longer be going back with our family or our many firends that we bring to the club until this person is gone. A good thing gone sour... Pros: Great Players Cons: One specific horrible and rude player more

Worst deuling piano bar ever 10/22/2008

This is the worst piano bar I ever been too. I have been to San Antonio, Vegas, Nashville, Baltimore, etc. Never have I been to a place that doesn't care about the people there or can sing worse than this place. And believe me they can't sing.\r Don't bother if you are looking for a good piano bar. The waiting staff was great but the pianists are terrible. If you do go, please don't give them any requests with money because they do not respond. more

I work at Howl at the Moon, and for the sake of fairness and decency I think it only appropriate to let the readers of this site know that the post made by KCROYAL1 is not a real review. KCROYAL1 works with us at Howl at the Moon and I am embarrassed at their lack of professionalism. I apologize to all the readers who took my colleagues comments to heart. \r \r In my opinion Howl at the Moon is the best piano bar in KC, but to slam Ernie Biggs on merit because they are not original is like saying Rodger Clemens is not original because he throws a fastball. The concept of dueling pianos is not owned by Howl at the Moon. I have seen Ernie Biggs twice since moving to KC and had a great time both times. They're no more un-original than we are. The only difference between the clubs is our locations. We are located in Power and Light which is brand new and very popular amongst the college crowd hence we are doing great business thanks to the success of the Power and Light district. Anyone with a bar is doing well here regardless of what's inside. Ernie Biggs is in Westport near the Plaza which draws the locals and business crowds. Both shows are fun. Both clubs have excellent sound and light shows, and both have world class entertainers. Again, my apology for the cheap shot by KCROYAL1. more

Best Piano Bar in KC 5/14/2008

Howl at the Moon is the best Piano Bar in KC. It didn't take long to see why they are so successful around the country! Its good to see some original talent. Unlike the other piano bar in the city, they come up with their own ideas and don't have to steal from competition. Their talent is second to none. The line gets really long on the weekends but it is always worth it!! The prices are on par with the other concepts in the P&L District. They have awesome bucket drinks and were the first bar to bring jello injector shots to KC!! If you want to go out and have a safe and enjoyable time in KC, make sure you get down to the P&L district. Make sure you go and check out the premiere piano bar in KC. Howl at the Moon leads the way; all others follow!! Pros: The talent is awesome, and the band sets are killer Cons: the line gets long on the weekends more

Horrible experience 5/4/2008

I was really excited to go to this place, but was sadly dissappointed. The entertainment was just so-so (the violin player was excellent) and the humor was, well, not funny and just risque. The reservation price was way too high for 4 people ($125) and the waiter was rude and tried to stick us with an $80 tab that we had already paid for. My wife stepped out of the bar for a bit and security would not let her back in despite the fact that she was sober and tried to reason with him. You can not see the stage from the VIP seats when they let in everyone else to stand right in front of you. Drink prices are way too high. There are plenty of other great places to go near the Sprint Center. My advice is bypass this one. Pros: first impression is fun Cons: first impression misleading more
