I literally would go to Houston's for the Strawberry Shortcake alone, it is phenomenal. This is a great restaurant, it has a fantastic ambiance and the staff are efficient and friendly. They have a great selection. I have been on a few very memorable dates here with my partner, it is our favorite restaurant. more

What a disappointment when it comes to take out. The wait is often long so I called for take out and was told by a sugary sweet voice that I was more than welcome to order take out while I wait at the bar. Clearly a ploy to sell drinks not food. When I followed the voice's directions after being assured that the wait for take out once ordered would only be ""9 or 10 minutes"" and I complained after 20 minutes-no sympathy, just a smile. I really like Houstons. The fact that the food is so consistent and that the value for the meat is so good keeps me coming back. My favorites are the ribs and the filet. My boyfriend loves the Tbone. We also always get the strawberry shortcake when it is in season. I also like the decor- it gives off a little bit more of an east coast vibe and is cozy. The service is always friendly too. Went to Houston's for our Anniversary last night, I remember this place had really good food! We ordered Cesar salad (which was the biggest joke). They brought us a salad with cheese ""clusters"" not shredded cheese and to top that off there was ""oil"" all over this salad that had ""NO"" cesar taste to it what so ever. We looked at the menu and ""laughed"" when we saw ""Sushi""? What the heck! So my wife orders Salmon and has to order a baked potatoe she gets her food which is supposed to have stemmed vegtables with it, no vegetables. I order the Ribs, out comes the thinnest set of ribs I've ever seen. Not like they used to have, these things were thin, tasteless, and dried out. I make better ribs than they do! So I'm having my meal and a bus boy comes by and takes my plate while my head is turned towards my wife and he doesn't even ask me if I was done yet? How rude! Menu- is a joke & it is limited to just a few things. Service was ok except for the bus boy. Food- Is definitly not worth the money you pay! I feel sorry for Houstons, it use to be a good place to go and good food. This is what they need to do to get back into the relm of a successful resturant again: First- Get rid of the chef's you current have. Second- Get back to basics again with your menu and your ribs that use to be great! People want good food! Thrid- Take Sushi off the menu, get real! Fourth- Dark hallways to your bathroom & I don't need a TV in the mirror in front of me when I'm releiving myself in the urinal-LOL!! What a joke!! GO BACK TO BASICS AND THE PEOPLE WILL COME. My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. The only reason we came here is because we had a gift card, otherwise we wouldn?t have chosen this restaurant. We made reservations well in advance and confirmed them a few days before, yet we still ended up waiting over a half hour to be seated and the hostesses were very rude about it. The food was mediocre at best. We were pressured into ordering an appetizer even though I really wasn?t interested in one. The salad was awful. Don?t order the Caesar, because it tastes nothing like a Caesar should; it tasted like a Chinese salad. The steak was okay, but way under cooked from what I ordered. To top if off, they wouldn?t accept our gift card. They claimed that it had already been redeemed, but it hadn?t. Instead of accepting the mistake, the manager basically implied that I was a liar. I will never eat at this restaurant again, and I hope you won?t either. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant in my life. Cons: Mediocre, over-priced food, rude service more

I used to go to Houston's ALL the time, and by ALL the time I mean at least once or twice a week. Back in the day, Houston's was a great value. Unfortunately, times have changed. The prices have gone up sharply and the portions have gotten smaller (i.e. hamburgers that are smaller than the buns, soup bowls filled up half way, etc.) In their So Cal locations, they seem to be pushing sushi now more than their BBQ classics (disappointing to a meat lover like myself.) Their meats, all grilled over hardwood, are as tasty as ever. But with steaks costing $30 or more, there are better places in town. Houston's still has the best ribs in town (Danish baby backs so tender you eat them with a knife and fork) and the best Texas Firehouse Chili I have found (Saturday's only). FYI, you can now avoid a long wait at dinnertime by making advance reservations. upon arrival to houston's manhattan beach, we were promptly greeted with a friendly hostess and a 20 - 30 minute wait time. my boyfriend and i waited at the bar for over an hour. the hostess made a comment about 40 minutes into it and said that there were people who were almost done and that we were going to be seated soon. we waited another 20 minutes at the bar since we didn't have reservations and when we went to check in at with the hostess, she promptly said we were the next table to be seated. well, we waited another 10 minutes and after all that decided to sit at the bar since we were so hungry. then, we waited for about another 10 - 20 minutes for my salad and another 10 - 20 minutes for our dinner......if she only told us that it would of been about 45 mins to an hour in the first place, we would of walked out and not even bother! what torture! it used to be my favorite place to go and have a nice dinner, but no wonder why it took almost a year to go back - bad service!!! i forgot.....now i'll remember!!! I've been going here for years and its been the same ever since great food great service wasome place. When we're hungry its hard to say no we know we'll get taken care of. I've been to a lot of places and have never gotten better service then Houston's. This restaraunt is a benchmark for how service should be. For what you get the price is right! Let me just tell you how my nite went when myself and 3 other of my close girlfriends went for dinner. we waited a long time to be seated, then 4. we ordered. my friend asked for medium well steak, when we realized how under cooked it was and asked the waitress to cook it some more who told us ""oh our medium well is different than most"" which she could have told us from the beginning had she known. then later the waitress brought a clear drink by that we all tasted because we were not sure whose it was (think it was club soda) the waitress came back, picked up the drink and dropped it off a few tables to who it belonged to not even asking if we had touched it. when we ordered desert we asked for a side of vanilla ice cream which came after the desert was finished. then, come to find out days later my card was over charged, which had to be adjusted. overall nothing was right.
