If you're not much of an opera fan, I suggest trying the Houston Grand Opera just once. It's located inside the Wortham Theatre and is just a delight to watch and listen to. Sometimes, they have free shows at the Miller Outdoor Theatre which is also a great place. I went to a few shows with my friends and most...most of us liked it. I think I'll probably come back if I see something I like. It doesn't cost that much for tickets so don't worry about burning a whole in your wallet. more

Houston Grand Opera 8/5/2005

I never thought I would be the type of person to attend an opera, much less like them. However, after being introduced to the opera here in Houston I am hooked. We have had season tickets for the past couple of years. It has been wonderful. Not only that, it has been fairly inexpensive. David Gockley has left the Houston Opera to work in San Francisco. I am not sure how that will affect the quality, but hopefully it will have no effect. The Houston Grand Opera usually debuts a new opera each season. more
