Dim Sum Me some more 3/29/2006

If you're looking for a quick meal, with lots of action and variety, House of Hong is the place to go. I love going to eat dim sum there on the weekend. Don't worry if you don't speak the language cause neither do I. All you need it the ability to look and point, and be aggressive. From shrimp dumplings,to pork buns, to chow mien and beyond, there is lots to choose from the carts that are pushed around during dim sum. Beware, they may try to dump some dishes on your table if you're paying attention and let them think they can take advantage. But its so tasty you probably won't mind. more

The place to go for dim sum 12/1/2005

We first visited this restaurant for dinner, but were only really impressed w/ the salt and pepper pork chops as well as the chicken fried rice (more Chinese style than other restaurants). The other items we ordered were so-so. We happened to drop by one weekend for dim sum and we were hooked! My very picky daughters found many items tasty and they claim this to be their favorite Chinese restaurant. The selection/quality/taste is comparable to the dim sum served in San Francisco. The staff is always friendly and the restrooms have always been clean on our visits. Check it out. more

Recommended for the Dim Sum 10/20/2005

This place was introduced to me by a friend one Sunday afternoon for Dim Sum, but I have gone back plenty of times on my own and brought many a newbie. This place is HUGE, and always packed when I go there, but the food is worth it. Don't go here expecting good service, go here expecting a large variety of food being carted up to your table, and overeating. My favorite in the world though is the sesame balls at the end. They are SO good. more

Good, but.... 8/25/2005

Just look at the reviews given by the Seattle Public Health Department to decide for yourself: -Physical facilities not properly installed, maintained, clean; unnecessary persons not excluded from establishment -Food contact surfaces not maintained, clean, sanitized -Non-food contact surfaces not maintained, clean, sanitized -Warewashing facilities not properly installed, maintained, used; no test strips available and used -Improper hot holding temperatures130° F to 139° F Still want to go? The food is good, but the lights are low and you feel dirty. more

Good Dim Sum, Bad dinner 8/17/2005

House of Hong is probably one of the best dim sum places in Seattle. You will always find the restaurant jam packed on the weekends. So parking is a headache here. The dim sum selection is good and mostly traditional stuff. If you are looking for some newer dim sum dishes, you might have to go to Vancouver. But you will be disappointed if you come here for dinner. The dinner menu is sort of American-Chinese rather than authentic Chinese dishes. Really odd. more

Best Dim Sum in Seattle 7/14/2005

If you are a fan of Dim Sum make sure you get on down to the House of Hong. They serve fresh Dim Sum on a daily basis and are conveniently located in the International District. House of Hong has a wide selection of treats at an affordable price. My personal favorites include the curry turnovers and the fried taro. Atmosphere is very lively and loud. Plenty of room inside and it is not too difficult to get a table. Parking can be hard to come by in the small lot that they have. more

So So Dim Sum 6/26/2005

House of Hong posted their 'King 5 - Best of Seattle - Best Chinese Food' posters all over their front door. This is the first time, though, after many years of going there, that I thought the food was so so. It is a great place to go with kids because you get food right away, they don't care if the kids make a mess, and there are lots of other families. Also, the parking is made easy on the weekend by the super friendly parking assistant who will shake your hand and say "long time no see!" However, the food is definetly not THE BEST CHINESE. The Potstickers were chewy and there is not a large selection of vegetable options. Alot of the selections were cold too. However, If you just want to load up on pork in all shapes and sizes, you are in for a real treat. Mixed Review. more

All Day Dim Sum 5/22/2005

Although the menu is not the most creative, it is consistent and good. It is Seattle's best rated Dim Sum year after year and for sure a local favorite. Around Chinese New Year the dragons come into the eating area and dance around you at the tables-- a must see! They start serving early and finish dim sum serving around 4:30 or 5pm and then become a typical Chinese (and good) restaurant. Try the pot stickers (you can really taste the ginger!), steamed humbows, baked humbows, egg tarts, and steamed shrimp with vegetables if you want to assure some good eats. If you are adventurous and enjoy less American-Chinese try anything on those carts, since I have not found anything that is too awful. Parking can be messy Saturday and Sunday mornings, but hang in there because the food is well worth it. more

good dim sum 8/17/2004

The dim sum at the House of Hong Restaurant isn't the best that I've had, or the most creative in terms of unique dishes, but it's not too bad, is very spacious, and has its own parking. The place drew an impressive and diverse crowd the day I went for lunch (dim sum is served until 4:30pm, I believe). If you like Chinese food, it doesn't hurt to try the place out, especially if you're going in a big group because their tables can seat large parties. more
