Best

if you're a harvard student, at some point or other you will be initiated into the ways of the scorpion bowl at the kong. the food's OK, and the atmosphere's kitschy fun; definite...

Worst

It's open really late. And if you're drunk it's a great destination for a heaping pile of sesame chicken and crab rangoons. If you're craving greas...

Don't Come for the Food 5/18/2006

Here is my experience at the Hong Kong: the food was terrible, the silverware was crusty and we had to send it back, and when my roommate asked for a glass of water, it came with a fly trapped under the ice, swimming for its life. The friends that ordered a scorpion bowl were very happy with their purchase. And then, oh my god, we watched a comedy show so funny we nearly all peed our pants. That sums up the Hong Kong pretty well, I think: come for the shows, drink the alcohol (it sanitizes and tastes pretty good) and eat somewhere else first. more

Hong Kong Restaurant 4/24/2006

Hong Kong Restaurant is oen of the odlest haunts in Cambridge. Go there at midnight, and you feel that middle of the day energy as if the palce were really running on Hong Kong local time. Every familair Chinese dish can be whipped up for you in just minutes, yet you can linger at the tables unitl closing. They do not experiment too much with their menu but then again, the Hong Kong has always been that ready standby. Acast in a world that closes at 1 am the Hong Kong can feed you unitl two. stay around Harvard Square long enough, and the Hong Kong will rescue you from that late night pangs. Upstairs, of course, there is the other world -- a jumping bar that feels more like a joint in Macao that Harvard Square. It's Harvard students of course blowing off more steam than a stream engine. It is a hard dirnking, chain smoking crowed but heh -- this is macao. If you want quaint, go back out into the Square. more

Alcohol and greasy noodles too! 9/27/2005

Hong Kong has good lunch and dinner specials. The main attraction here though is the gigantic alcoholic drinks available for consumption. The scorpion bowl is something most students in the area end of trying whether they want to or not. Okay, back to a description of the food. Noodles are greasy but surprisingly good, actually this is an apt description for everything in the restaurant. Given the amount of alcohol consumed on the premises it is not surprising that there is a bar upstairs. The Hong Kong is open late and serves very cheap (4 to 10 dollars) American style Chinese food. more

terrible food, but cheap 9/13/2005

The Hong Kong has really bad Chinese food. I been here and the food is very greasy. It tastes like fast-food chinese food. The prices are pretty good though. So if you want to compromise, maybe check it out. more

Fake Chinese Food 9/2/2005

I don't really like any of the dishes here. The food is very greasy and not very authentic. Nonetheless, the Kong is open late and for students, this is a must. If you do order something from the Kong, I recommend the seafood pan friend noodles. When the weather is cold, you can also get it delivered but it will take 1 hr for them to come. more

  • In Short
The scorpion bowls (lethal, fruity troths of booze) at the dated, low-key Hong Kong are an age-old Harvard University favorite. While the exotic drinks are the main attraction at this college hangout, the restaurant's straightforward Chinese fare provides an affordable dining option. Boisterous patrons head to the upstairs bar area to mingle, watch the Sox game and down tropical drink concoctions.
