Excellent sushi with a twist 7/9/2007

Spectacular Sushi, fresh and tasty. Food comes first for me but the ambience here is equally as good as the gourmet fodder. I especially liked the chilled lobster with truffle it pleased my palete to no end. If you are a wine drinker or prefer a cocktail (Mmmmm cosmo) the bar will cater to your every whim. This place is definitely worth checking out whether it's for a romantic evening or a business lunch. more

Nothing Spectacular, decent food 7/8/2007

I went here with a large party, and the food was not bad. The beef cheek stew was excellent, although the sea bass could have used some flavor. The best food here is the appetizers. The waitstaff was attentive and fun. The biggest disappointment was 90211 roll, which made me realize beef has no place in a sushi roll with foi gras, and truffles. It was chewy, tasteless, and not worth the $35. Pros: Friendly staff, great cocktails, valet Cons: food misses the mark, not worth the $$$ more

WOW!! 7/3/2007

This place is wonderful. The staff is so friendly and the decor is truly amazing. A group of us went for my birthday last week and they are still gushing about the food. My boyfriend tried the infamous 90211 roll and loved it so much that the whole table ended up getting it as well. Fresh does not begin to describe the fish?I have never tasted food this good. The high point for me as an avid sake fanatic was their selection. I will be sure to make a stop here every time I find myself on the West coast again. Pros: SAKE Cons: valet & a tad pricey more

Great location, food, atmosphere, and service! 6/26/2007

Fresh seafood, great ambience, and friendly service. Great place to take a date! I really enjoyed the modern Asian style interior with Japanese/French cuisine and fresh sushi. Christopher, the Asst. General Manager, personally took care of us from the moment my date and I arrived in the restaurant. Excellent service! Pros: Ambience, sushi, food, and service Cons: parking tough but valet parking available. more

Amazing 6/26/2007

Working on La Cienega Blvd, we decided to explore the area beyond the usual Restaurant row. I've been to all of them, Koi, Sushi Roku, Gyu-kaku, Matsuhisa. My favorite so far was Matsuhisa. Pros: Food and value Cons: Hidden location more

Working on La Cienega Blvd, we decided to explore the area beyond the usual Restaurant row. I've been to all of them, Koi, Sushi Roku, Gyu-kaku, Matsuhisa. My favorite so far was Matsuhisa. Over at Hokusai, I had a delightful experience, from start to end. Some of the best sushis I've ever had and for a very reasonable price. Forget about paying a fortune for sushis, Hokusai was reasonable, friendly, non pretentious with a great selection. Now can you say all that about the other restaurants named above? Great new find! 6/19/2007

Using Citysearch to find new places, I stumble on to this place by accident. Talk about creature of habit, me and my friends always go to Geisha House , I was hungry, but the 40 minute drive and Father's Day Weekend without a reservation was not what I wanted to do. So, reading all the reviews, I thought, what the heck, let's try it out! Calling at 7:30 on a Saturday night, they were able to get us in at 9:00. Pros: Valet parking more

The staff was fantastic! The food was unbelievable and the fish was FRESH! I will difinitely be back and have already told several of my friends. I can't wait to try other dishes on the menu. Found the ""lost"" Red Bean Cheesecake 6/18/2007

This is an excellent place to enjoy "Sushi" & "Dinning Environment" at the same time. My 2nd time in the restaurant, I specifically requested for Sushi Bar. Lovely. Was looking for RedBean Cheesecake for dessert, and got a "not available for tonight" answer from the waiter. Complained to the Sushi Bar chef - Gin-san. Guess what? The dessert chef just made a fresh RedBean Cheesecake - ready like 10 minutes ago. Lucky night. Gin-san was even pleasant enough to prepare a special "dessert plate" just for us. Defnitely planning on coming back so often - just hope that they don't sell out Red Bean Cheesecake during lunch time. (will hold my breath for it) Pros: Food with Precision, and Service with Passion Cons: Parking - if not Valet parking, have to find space in residential area more

Taste Explosion 5/7/2007

I've had the good fortune to visit Hokusai on a couple occasions, and each time I was rewarded with a truly outstanding dining experience, while tasting a completely different variety of ""good eats."" The inventive dishes attacked parts of my palate I didn't even know I had, and the sushi, which truly is incredibly fresh, had me yearning to taste as much as my stomach could possibly handle. Since I'm not a dessert guy, the owner recommended I try the barbecued eel to top off my meal, and it was perfection. The price of this experience is so well worth it you won't think twice about scouring (and devouring) the menu. Now, if I could just get a Hokusai in Orange County.... more
