Best

I gather that this restaurant has a well-established reputation, but we weren't aware of it. We've walked past the place many times on our way to nearby concerts and always said,...

Worst

I've been to Higgins twice, both times on special occasions, and both times have been very disappointed. The food has been good, but we have been ignored by the waitstaff both time...

good food 9/27/2002

Food is excellent. Nice atmosphere. Make reservations a few days in advance. more

Still one of Portland's Finest! 9/11/2002

One of the long time true stand outs on the Portland restaruant scene. Everything is subtle, from the decor to the food. Nothing over-sauced or over spiced which allows the ultra-fresh ingredients & superb presentation to shine. The service is superior, being both friendly and formal. Add to this the superb bar (a great place to drop in for lunch) and their amazing imported beer selection. If the bar was only cigar friendly it may rank as the best in the city. Higgin's is as fine a dining experience as can be had in the Pacific Northwest. Pros: amazing service, super fresh dishes, beer selection Cons: no cigars in the bar more

I KNOW! 8/29/2002

I know Higgins is good, because I work there. I know that the food is purchased from local organic growers and farmers, and that we have absolutely no storage for cans, so nothing comes out of one. I know that we smoke our own meats, including prosciutto that is aged for more than a year. I know that the chefs spend hours cleaning everyday, and they come in before the sun comes up to serve you for lunch. And I know that the wait staff are all professionals, not just people with a job. This includes bussers. Greg Higgins has won the James Beard award for outstanding chef and he has been nominated three times as well. From management, to staff to the freshest food available, Higgins is the best restaurant available. Pros: Great Service, Fresh Food, Organic supporter Cons: Pricey, Very Busy more

happiness is higgins 8/25/2002

For a lovely dining experience to celebrate a special occasion, Higgins is my first choice. The service is exquisite, and the food impeccable. To really make someone feel wonderful, choose Higgins and you won't be disappointed. For a more casual, special evening, Higgins bar is very relaxed, and once again, the food is impeccable. Higgins goes out of their way to make the diner feel elegant. Pros: wait staff!!!, lovely table arrangem, cordial reception Cons: can't go enough!, a little pricey more

Hail Higgins' Hamburgers! 8/17/2002

For the best value meal in Portland, go to Higgins' bar and have their heavenly hamburger. It's everything a burger should be, plus you get their delicious house salad with toasty hazelnuts and an assortment of HOUSE-MADE pickles that are a revelationl...you won't even miss the fries! All this and an truly awesome selection of beers in the atmosphere of a French bistro...for $8.95 how can you go wrong? Pros: wonderful food, great ambience, beer selection Cons: entrees very pricey more

The Portland Standard 8/13/2002

It's not a real reach to heap praises on Higgins, but it is honest. From all of the restaurants I've eaten at since moving to Portland 8 years ago, I always wind up comparing them to Higgins. It is consistently the best food and dining experience I've had here (or anywhere, for that matter). Higgins' commitment to local growers and ingredients pays dividends in fresh and unique offerings. More importantly, their staff is the best! Never pretentious, and they make genuine recommendations about the food and wine (not just clearing out last week's ""specials""). I can't think of anywhere else I would rather eat. Strange to say about a restaurant, but I'm actually proud it's here in Portland. more

Good Ole Portland 8/13/2002

Enchanting 8/6/2002

Higgins Restaurant consistently serves up excellent dishes, and my dining experience has never been anything less than great. I love the place, and the staff is wonderful. The Northwest fare is divine. Best burger, anywhere. Great place to hang with the local thespians after the show. more

Higgins for Higgins 7/1/2002

I've been to Higgins Restaurant several occasions and every one has been fantastic. The last time was for a close high school friends visit, whose name happens to be Higgins. Needless to say he wen't home with a pocketful of matchbooks and napkins and a big smail from the friendly help there. Not to mention the mean was outstanding. Truly a great place to dine and nice enough to spend there for special evening. The food was creative, well displayed and best of all- tastes fantastic. more

The best!!!!!!!!!!! 6/15/2002

The first time my husband and I went to Higgins we were blown away. The food was the best and our server was wonderful. We have been back numerous times and are amazed at how wonderful this restaurant is. more

Special Meal 6/12/2002

I suppose that someone who'd choose to Macdonald's after eating at Higgins WOULD find the menu here to be (1) small-portioned and (2) expensive, but slightly more refined tastes will probably find that Higgins serves up a very special meal. This is definitely some elegant northwest cuisine in a comfortable setting. The seafood is always extraordinary. Service is friendly and efficient. more

A special treat 6/2/2002

Very expensive. I ordered the pork medallions and got 4 very small pork medallions. i would recommend only ordering items with a size next to it, so you know what you are getting. OR get what you want...savor it, because it is delicious, but plan on a McDonalds trip afterwards. Pros: Great food, beautiful atmosphere Cons: Small portions, Very expensive more

Great NW Cuisine 5/20/2002

A great place to take out-of-towners to try Northwest cuisine. Higgins does it best. If your budget doesn't allow for the restaurant, try the bar. It has a scaled-down menu with some great dishes, and is open late. The mussels are my favorite--you might go through an entire loaf of bread sopping up the sauce. Service is always excellent, whether you're in the restaurant or bar. Pros: super bar, great service, central location Cons: expensive more

Yummie 5/20/2002

Higgins - I will say two things! WOW and WOW again. Thanks from the Northwest! more
