Great place to go for Sunday brunch, love the staff and great service

I like Henry's better in the summer when you can sit outside. The drinks are predictable and this is good - never a bad drink and yet never a great drink.\r \r Average food and...

Fantastic hangout on a slow night 10/30/2006

I'm not one for crowds, so I love this place on slower night like Sundays. Never had a bad drink here, and the bar food is delicious. more

Best bar in Portland 10/24/2006

Lots of people hate this place, but I love it. The service can be lackluster some nights, depending on who is serving you, and at times, it can be really really crowded. Nonetheless, this place has a huge up-side. It is large, has a big screen, pool tables, good food, great happy hour food specials, plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs, attractive clientele, a good patio for the summertime, and a monstrous beer list. Pros: Huge space, great beer list, attractive clientele Cons: Too crowded, lackluster service sometimes more

Great beer list, Lots of people watching, pool, cool atmosphere 10/19/2006

We had friends from out of town we brought in and they loved it. Good bar food. Well priced. Friendly staff. Pros: Friendly Staff, cool atmosphere, LOTS of beers more

Simply the best! 9/6/2006

Very clean. Smoke free. Great tables. Attractive people. Every beer on the planet. Why go anywhere else? more

forget the bar--eat in the restaurant! 5/26/2006

Amiable staff. However, we were disappointed with the experience in the bar area on the first visit.... BUT the next time in we sat on the restaurant side. WOW, what a difference! The service was great and a whole different climate. Much better! Why wait for a table and pay half price for half the amount of food at happy hour? The resaurant was a great experience and great value. Also, I think they take reservations in the restaurant now. I'll definitely go back again soon! :) Pros: great service, good variety, good value Cons: busy on weekend more

One of the Best Happy Hours 3/9/2006

I've been back to this establishment too many times to count. The happy hour is one of the best in Portland, Although there are no drink specials the food specials are to be desired. Their natural organic cheeseburger is mouth-watering. My favorites on the happy hour food menu is the Orange Chicken, California Roll and the Gorgonzola Fries. Sit on the floor or up in the balcony section with a view of the huge flatscreen and brewery tanks. During the summer and spring the outdoor seating is bustling with conversation. The restaurant section is excellent. A dark moody setting , excellent drinks (beer drinker's livers will shake at the sight of their beer selections) and food that will give you any reason to come back placed a block away from burnside in Portland's Pearl District. Pros: Inexpensive, Best Happy Hour, Best Outdoor Seating Cons: Dressy Bar more

Excellent 1/26/2006

It was so good that I ate there three times in one week. Excellent huge salad. Excellent salad dressing. Excellent corn chowder. Excellent beef tips. Excellent maionberry cobler. I'll be back. Pros: Excellent more

Won't Go There Again 1/3/2006

I've been there twice, both during the weekday lunch hour. First time, the service was ok, but the food was nasty (they called it pad thai, but this absolutely was not pad thai). Second time (there was only a second time because I was given a gift card), the service was very rude and pretentious, and the food was substandard (orange chicken wasn't even as good as the Safeway deli). Our waitress spilled a side of sauce all over a businessman sitting next to us. It's very crowded and highly overrated. Cons: obnoxious staff, food is horrible, snobbish crowd more

What a GREAT Find! 12/31/2005

My wife ate here last night for New Year's Eve. We had a great experience. The beer selection, as mentioned, is great. The staff was good, and the food was phenominal. My wife had the fillet, and it was as good as any steak I have ever had in my life. I had the scallops, which were great. The Ahi appetizer was mouth watering. I highly recommend. Pros: Beer Selections, Great Food more

Great Spot for a Pint & Billiards 12/27/2005

Me and my wife have frequented Henry's maybe about eight times. If you come here on a weekend good luck getting a table or a spot at the bar. It's maybe a 20 minute way for a couple seats. The beer selection is unmatched. Period. Over 100 brews to choose from. That alone is worth coming here for. The service is slow, regardless of the day of the week. The atmosphere in the bar area is classy, vibrant, and upbeat but not chaotic. Another great plus is the billiards room upstairs with it's own bar. Try to find a place like that anywhere in Portland. You can't. It's non-smoking which makes hanging out at Henry's that much more enjoyable. The happy hour menu is moderately priced and the food is a little above decent. The must have on that menu are the gargonzola fries. Absolutely the best in town. Pros: Beer selection, Billiard room, Good happy hour Cons: Slow service, Weekends crowded more

Worst Service in Town 11/26/2005

My husband and I have been to Henry's 4 times since it opened, and each time was the same experience - we wait about an hour to order and recieve an appetizer and beer. It doesn't matter how crowded the place is, or what the time of day, they do not have it together to get even a salad to a person in under 45 minutes. Drinks only work, but forget ordering food. Pros: Good beer selection, convenient location Cons: Terrible service, Slow, slow, slow more

Mr. Invisible. 10/29/2005

My girlfriend and I went in on a Friday for happy hour. The place was pretty busy, but we easily scored two seats at the bar, which would have meant something if we weren't completely ignored for 15 minutes. We couldn't even get a bar tender to look our way, and when one came to hit his computer station near us, he glanced our way and headed in the other direction. As former regulars of this place, I'm glad there are other dining options under different ownership in the neighborhood. Pros: Happy Hour, Lotsa beer Cons: Apathetic service, Long Wait more

Don't believe the hype 10/14/2005

Henrys is decent. That is it. It is certainly not a tavern in any real sense of the word. The service can be spotty, the place is packed (and laid out poorly). Despite the huge size, there is not ONE place you can smoke in the whole establishment. This is supposed to be a tavern, right? Not even outside, which is a first. It is a Pacific Coast restaurant, so the food quality is good, but only the bar menu is priced well and the pan-asian stuff is only barely above average (the orange chicken is like mall Chinese food). Yes, and amazing beer selection. As a beer freak, it is why I go. This is the only place in the state that has Murphys Red, let alone on tap. That said, the beer menu offers no prices on it and the 100 taps mean the beer goes bad often. Pros: beer selection, bar menu, food quality Cons: stale beer, no smoking, anywhere!, crowded more

Am I on vacation? 7/21/2005

My girlfriend had mentioned Henrys on several occasions, but I have been so utterly disappointed by Portland establishments, I was reluctant to go. However, it looked inviting after a visit to West Elm. We went in, and I was absolutely floored. Great atmosphere, the crowd was older and more relaxed, the food was outstanding, and the waitress was actually good (a rare thing for Portland). Within five minutes I felt like I was no longer in Portland. Henrys is a much desired dreamscape for those who came from the east. Certainly, it is a refreshing change from the typical Portland experience. The only thing I can do is pray that the twenty-something southeast wannabe hipster crowd doesnt desecrate such a rare jem. Pros: Upscale, Great Service, Unlike Portland more

First Visit a Bust 7/12/2005

My husband and I decided on a visit after hearing nothing but rave reviews. I was disappointed, the wait was long -- they should take reservations. Moved into the bar and we were lucky enought to score seats at the bar, the ice ring is fun. The place was loud and filled with the 2-B-seen crowd. I will visit again but not on a weekend night. Pros: Beer Selection, Good Burgers Cons: Dark, Loud more

Several happy hour options 7/5/2005

I really had a positive expirence overall. The food was very good (at happy hour prices), the servicewas ok, but the drinks were a tad overpriced. There was a large selection of beer choices, and I glanced over the regular menu it had a large selection. Try going there during happy hour ($2-4) apps, when the same ones run about $7-10 during other hours. Pros: selection, location, food Cons: overpriced, dark more

Henry's is great! 5/8/2005

I especially like Henry's happy hour food. What a great deal, and you get to eat for cheap in a nice place! Pros: Cheap Happy Hr, Good Location, Great Food Cons: Parking, Fri & Sat Meat Market more

Night out with Friends 4/28/2005

My husband and I went to Henry's with another couple for a night out. The atmosphere was great. The view from the upper level seating was great! Both food and service were great! I will go back!! Pros: Good Food, Beverages, close parking Cons: Prices, little crowded, dark inside more

wow- that's a lot of beer 4/23/2005

i went here for the first time, and loved it- granted, i didn't have to wait in the long line after 9pm, but once we got a booth in the bar, it was a great scene- not too crowded (probably because of the line out the door), and the service was actually pretty good- great choice of beers- don't get the sushi, it was sub-par, but the fries and burgers were good- overall, it was a great spot to see the trendy portlanders try to scam on each other with not so original lines. Pros: 100 beers on tap, good-looking crowd, ambience Cons: parking not validated, happy hour more
