When the Hartford Civic Center had a purpose- home to the NHL Hartford Whalers- it was better upkept and current. Now it is an eyesore of concrete and antiquated cavernous spaces. The conventions they have here are probably better suited for smaller venues or better space design. The Civic Center Mall is a sad sight indeed- only a couple stores and restaurants. The Civic Center arena is huge, but uncomfortable seating, and overpriced drinks make it not worth seeing a show here. more

They need to build a new one! 9/3/2005

Unfortunately the Civic Center has seen better days. With all of the revitalization going on in Hartford, one would think they would build a new one. The Civic Center is old, outdated, dirty and cramped compared to other city's venues. It's OK for hockey games or the circus, but not so hot for concerts (the Meadows is better!). more

Just okay on its best day. 8/23/2005

Even with all the construction going on there now it's an improvement over the junky place it used to be. It's run down, dirty and generally icky. Parking is a nightmare, as always. The only events I've gone to at the Civic Center have been during the afternoons as I would not recommend that area after dark. The arena was outdated and the bathrooms and concessions below par. I would definitely NOT recommend to anyone, unless you desperately wanted to see a specific performance there! more

Civic Center Of Hartford 8/19/2005

The Civic Center Of Hartford is currently going through some major renovations. The place is really torn up, but, the civic center is still opened. The mall is ripped apart. The circus comes here and some major concerts play here. Its also home to the hartford WOLFPACK hockey team, the Whalers use to play here. Its an OK Center. I wouldnt recommend this place now, maybe after the work is finished.... more
