Brooklyns Gym 11/19/2011

I've been a member of Harbor since I moved to Bay Ridge about 6 years ago. The staff and clientele are very friendly and welcoming. I've made many friends here. The facility offers a wide range of strength and cardio equipment as well as group fitness and personal training services. I've utilized the personal training services in the past and found the trainers to be very professional and helpful in helping me reach my fitness goals. I absolutely love the group fitness programs. I typically attend approx 6 classes per week. They offer a wide variety of classes from spin, boot camp, sculpting, and fight club to Pilates and yoga. The instructors all kick butt and you never walk out feeling as if you didn't work out to your max. They offer babysitting services for those looking to sneak in a workout without having to hire or find a sitter. There is also free towel service, women/men's locker rooms with daily lockers and shower facilities. There is someone constantly cleaning too which is nice because I tend to get grossed out easily. It's not an issue at all the Harbor clubs. The membership fees are reasonable considering you get towel service and do not pay extra to attend group fitness. more

What's not to like? 6/12/2011

Right off the bat, the only thing that I don't like is that the rubber-matting by the squat rack is a bit wonky so if you are a big deadlifter, you'll be a bit miffed when the barbell rolls on the floor. Other than that, this place rocks. Awesome lockerrooms with a sauna, steam room, towels and showers. Great staff, great shakes and the place is always clean. Membership is a bit steep, but you get your money's worth. The "spa" features of this spot aren't necessary for an athlete, but I can't help but spoil myself by relaxing in the steam room or doing a half-hour deep tissue therapy on the yoga mats. Superb place. BEWARE:if you don't like Top 40 music, bring an i-pod. more

Brooklyn's Best! 4/12/2011

If you're looking for a friendly, congenial neighborhood health and fitness club, you cannot do better than to sign up with Harbor Fitness. With very reasonable membership rates, a caring staff, and superb workout equipment, this is simply the best value for the money you will find. I have been a member at the Bay Ridge facility for one year now and my experiences with the Club and its personnel have been nothing short of exemplary. As a local neighborhood business with strong roots in the community, Harbor Fitness prides itself on treating the customer with respect, dignity and consideration at all times. You're not just a "number" - you're treated as somebody whose patronage is valued and appreciated. That's what makes it stand out and stand apart from a national chain. It's small enough to provide individual attention to the customer and to address any concerns or questions that may arise while at the same time being of sufficient size to ensure a wide-ranging diversity of equipment apparatus to work out with. The best of both worlds. When you come here, you feel like you're part of a family. That's a good feeling. My landlady's son is a member and he recommended it to me last year when I told him I was looking to join a health club. He recommended it without reservation and told me that he really enjoys going there. That sounded like a ringing endorsement to me and I went to the Club, liked what I saw and the way I was treated, and signed up on the spot. And- you won't have to take out a second mortgage to afford a membership here as you might with some other places. The rates here are very affordable as befits a neighborhood business. You won't have to break the bank to come here. They're open morning, noon and night and you can go as often as you want. There are no restrictions on how many visits you're allowed during the month. No one is going to tell you that you've used up your monthly allotment. A personal issue arose recently in which I reached out to Lisa, who is one of the Managers at the Club, to elicit her advice and possible help. She was very gracious to me and displayed an understanding of my concern and a willingness to try and be of assistance. The question I had was resolved the very same day in a favorable manner. She told me that the Club wanted me to be happy as a member and was willing to resolve the issue in my favor. I was most grateful to Lisa and the Club for treating me with such respect and consideration. It really made a difference and has left me with a very warm feeling inside. It feels good to be cared about and appreciated and if that's an important consideration for you in deciding on a health and fitness club, you need to look no further than Harbor Fitness. more

Great new look!! 3/22/2010

I have been a member at Harbor for a few years and the service has always been outstanding. The classes are so much fun and I get such a terrific workout. And aside from all that they went ahead and fully renovated the entire club!! All I can say is WOW... Now the place is twice the size with a private spin studio and even more classes! I think everyone should experience the best gym in Brooklyn and Harbor is definetley the best and more. Even when I'm not there working out I find myself going there just to get their shakes and snacks. All around, Harbor Fitness is the best :-) Pros: Best all around. more

Greatest Gym In BKLYN 2/5/2010

Harbor Fitness THE BEST gym I have ever belonged to. It's like a huge family. When you enter the gym you are greeted with the sweetest staff, who are always there to brighten up your day. The classes are great! Spin has to be my favorite. Lisa, the manger is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. She is always super friendly and nice. Most importantly, she is always willing to go that extra mile for every one of Harbors members. The customer Service here is by far the best! Lisa is one of the main reasons that I am still a member of Harbor Fitness. I have been a member of a few different gyms throughout the years. But by far Harbor has to be #1. more

In Response to Bad Front Service and Paid Parking 2/5/2010

I must say I'm shocked to read a review like below. I was a member for a long time and know Lisa, and everyone else for at least 10 years. They are nothing but respectful, professional, and nice. When signing the contract does anyone read the fine print? I did not have problems cancelling my contract when I moved. I find that people that had problems in the past with cancellations usually didn't read the fine print. It's a shame how a great gym can get a bad rap because people just sign without looking. Pros: Best Gym in Brooklyn wish they would come to Manhattan more

Bad Front Service and Paid Parking 2/3/2010

Sign in- service was excellent, everything went quick. They have multiple classes, Yoga, Pilates and lots of muscle building and strength improving opportunities. When I attended morning classes it was fine. After my schedule changed I only could go to evening classes- overcrowded, lack of equipment, not enough room on the floor. It started to bother me since I was unable to exercise. Parking always difficult, or you can park in the Parking, but you have to pay for it. Since I'm paying for gym, parking should be free, not only discounted. Then I canceled my membership- and here it begins. Unprofessional and rude service all over! Ive been dealing with them till now- even my membership is canceled, they keep charging me. they probably didn't cancel it properly and my info is still there, every month I keep being charged and have to call for a refund. Every time they say the same story- the ruled of canceling my membership- and dont listen to what I have to say. What a mess. I keep reaching the manager;'s office for a week and nobody ever called me back. Finally I got a refund and here it goes again another month. The girl- Lisa- the manager of the Bay Rodge location- has negative attitude and got upset about my complaint. (why am I being charged and the I have to deal with those girls, and each one of them asks me whats my problem- cant they put it together?) Well, good luck when you cancel. Anyway - I think they are overpriced for the service they have and overcrowded classes they provide. Pros: great trainers, multiple classes Cons: paid parking, overcrowded classes, lack of equipment, more

great gym! 10/22/2009

best gym in the area (and probably in entire brooklyn!) I've been a member for 2+ yrs and still very satisfied. Their hours work with my schedule, although 24/7 applies to Mon-Thurs only. Still, more convenient than any other gym! the locker room has all you need after a workout and a shower- from towels, shampoo, etc. to qu-tips, hairspray, deodorant, etc. My only suggestion for them is to place the "butt machine" into a corner, to avoid stares (yes, some men are there mostly to socialize and stare, which i guess is unavoidable in any co-ed gym). Staff are friendly and the classes are great. Pros: hours, towels, supplies, clean, classes,no wait for machines Cons: none :) more

Absolutely Affordable & the best value for your money in NY 4/26/2009

I recently joined Harbor and can honestly say I am very impressed. Within my 1st week the front desk staff not only greeted me by 1st name, but my 2 children as well! The classes are welcoming but challenging and the trainers I have met are very helpful. The desk staff is extremely friendly and informative with any questions I have about the club or neighborhood.(I recently moved here from Albany) Being new to the area I was glad the childcare attendants and front desk staff asked me to participate in a charity event they hosted today. My kids loved the face painting and fire truck and my husband and I discovered the 'bicycle path' during the group walk. This place has something for everyone and is definitely worth checking out. You can join on just a month to month membership which is very affordable(I did!) Pros: always greeted with a smile!!, plenty of freebies included Cons: tanning only in park slope location more

best gym in bay ridge 3/1/2009

Surprisingly delightful! 10/12/2008

My husband and I moved from Manhattan to Bay Ridge after having my little girl and joined the closest health club to my condo. After spending over $100- a month at my club in the city I wasnt expecting much in Brooklyn but was amazed at what I came across at the Harbor Fitness. Lisa at the front desk extends every courtesy to me when I check in and the 2 ladies in the nursery room, Nancy and Norma, made my daughter love to come to the gym. The facilities were completely updated with new equipment since I joined and the classes are as intense as I remember in the city. This club is very professionally run, clean, and truly has the nicest people working here! Pros: parking, nursery, classes, equipment more

The worst 11/29/2007

If you like LOUD MUSIC constantly playing. SO LOUD, you cannot hear your I POD this dump is for you. The staff is anything but helpful. The equipment is very old and the barbells are a constant hassle to find two that match. The bathroom sinks are from the stone age and the locker room and shower room are more often than not a total mess. Better of paying a little more somewhere esle where you patronage is appreciated. Pros: none more

Ok value for the money 3/19/2007

After having been a member at a number of gyms across the country, I can not rate this gym very highly. Yes, the gym is open 24 hours on weekdays, features classes, lots of equipment, towels, nice sauna, protein shakes, relatively friendly staff and reasonable membership costs. ... However - the equipment is pretty old, the locker rooms, the showers and the steam rooms are uncomfortable, run down and smelly. Overall, I would recommend this gym as not a bad value for money, but it is far from the "best gym in Brooklyn" it aspires to be. Pros: work hours, spaciousness, staff Cons: old equipment, shabby interiors, locker rooms more

Great Place to Workout 3/3/2007

After having my children I wanted to drop the baby weight. I used to be a long time member of Living Well Lady, but since they closed I needed to look around for a local gym. At first I was hesitant to join a gym that was coed, but after I tried a free guest pass I saw that everyone does their own thing. The staff is very nice and helpful. Chris, one of the owners, is very nice and goes out his way to answer your questions and make you feel welcome. I have been a member for a few years now and have encouraged a group of my friends to join with me. We all have a great time working out together and if needed they have a babysitting room with video monitor that you can watch your child/children from the gym floor. The exercise classes are great. I recently discovered Karen's Spin Class and she is amazing. I use both the Bay Ridge & Park Slope locations. I don't have anything negative to say about either gym. Even the locker rooms and entire gym is kept clean and up-to-date. I love the new treadmills and Elliptical Trainers. I go several times a week at all different times and have had a great workout experience each time. I even tried the personal trainer sessions and learned alot about different ways to workout. I really enjoy going to Harbor Fitness and I'm glad I took the chance to take a tour and use the free guest passes they offer. I look forward to working out and doing it in a great atmosphere. Pros: Fresh hot towels, variety of classes, overall great gym more

Best gym... 11/6/2006

This health club is "Best of the Best" for Brooklyn--overall facilty spares nothing and these guys that run it know what it takes to make members happy.. This place is clean, has tons of equipment, classes, childcare and no excuses, when they are open for 24 hours. I've tried other healthclubs and they are so pale in comparison--and lack everything that this facility has to offer for the $$$$$.... Check it out....you wont be dissapointed. Pros: parking lot, clean, classes more

great gym 3/6/2006

wow. You should see what these guys did to this gym. They just remodeled the entire club, and it rivals any top gym in manhattan, the ceilings must be 20 feet high, the colors are super, the cardio theater is great, I get a great motivating workout there, and the yoga classes are great too Pros: clean, always open, freindly more

STATE OF THE ART FACILITY 3/8/2005

I have been a member at Harbor Fitness Bay Ridge since it first opened, and have witnessed many different design changes over the course of several years, but this new expansion and overall design scheme take on a whole new meaning to the word "transformation". With its new addition of a second floor that reveals new cardio machines and equipment galore --the owners have not spared any expense into giving the club a great trendy and modern look --that appeals to my senses on every level. The club remains to be a favorite of mine, because of their wonderful customer service and also they can't do enough for their members. Its a beautiful facility and this is why they are here to stay..... Pros: Beautiful Newly Designed Expansion more
