Hansen's Cakes

You know some things can bring up wonderful childhood memories? This is the bakery that does it for me. It still has the most delicious, fresh cake that I have ever found, but the beauty of this place is the beauty that they put out...the designs. Whatever I can imagine, they can come up with...perfectly! This is the place that dreams are made of. I especially love the samples that they give out; generously! You can imagine how much my kids enjoy visiting the showrooms, with the cool model cakes and books upon books of designs to choose from. more

They have the worst customer service- I placed an order 2 weeks in advance for a cake that fed 8. I called the next day after I found out the person I purchased the cake for didn't like chocolate. I only wanted to change the order from chocolate cake to white cake, but they said it can't be done. Even though I wasn't picking up the cake for another 2 weeks. I would understand if I placed an order that they had started working on, but this was an 9 inch cake that wouldn't be picked up for 2 weeks. I ended up going to Porto's and bought a cake at half the price that tasted looked better than the hansen's cake. Cons: horrible service, people straight out of prison work there. more

I RECENTENLY GOT MARRIED AND DECIDED TO BUY MY WEDDING CAKE AT HANSEN'S CAKES. TO THIS DAY I AM STILL GETTING COMPLIMANT ON THE WHITE CAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE FILLING. MY HUSBAND WHO IS NOT A CAKE LOVER WANT US TO GO AND ORDER ANOTHER ONE ON OUR ANNIVERSARY. Pros: GREAT TASTING more

I know some bad history coming from next door at Regal and would be willing to bet that they have been purposely bad rapping an amazing bakery. Hansen's should have sued them at least a couple of times. I've been in the industry all my life and there is always a mistake occasionally. I know these guys for years and have a hard time believing many of these stories especially of not helping with a real problem. this is my first blog ever anywhere but this time I had to share. more

I purchased a cake from Hansens Cakes and received a botched order, I honestly I don't know which is worse, the fact that Hansens botched up the order or the fact that they were extremely rude and unprofessional?I spoke with Patrick Hansen on the phone to see if he would refund my money (he seemed like he couldn?t care less how my cake came out, this guy owns the bakery, is this guy slow or something?), I was very specific as to how I wanted my cake, I made Cathy repeat my order over the phone to me twice and the cake still came out wrong. I had to bring in the cake (which I did) send photos via email AND wait and wait and wait for a response after ?someone? reviewed the situation. I mean seriously this is utterly ridiculous, would they like me to donate a kindney too?? I'm glad I DID take pictures. This whole process is just anxiety not needed. My son's birthday cake had to be thrown away because the children there that couldn't eat strawberries. After reviewing all of the complaints on City Search, I see that these types of problems are a daily feature of Hansens Cakes. It seems like Hansens Cakes has no problem ruining everlasting memories!! Cons: Terrible service!!! more

My family has been getting cakes here for over40 years now. Sure, we've since branched out and buy cakes from other pastry shops and bakeries every now and then, but Hansens has been and always will be a standby and sentimental favorite. more

I am a young black man and I was beyond shocked by the way I was treated by the bakery staff at Hansen?s Cakes. The girls there look and act like they are on a work release program from jail. I parked in the back of the store and one of the employees asked if I was a pimp or ?slung? dope because I have a nice car. They can?t even speak proper English and I don?t appreciate being called the N-Word from some thug who doesn?t even know me. I have no idea where the other customer who wrote a Citysearch review who said they were treated like a king and queen went; it must have been Regal Cakes or Sweet Lady Jane. I barely made it through the door before I turned around and moved my car next door and went to Regal Cakes where I was treated like a valued customer. At Regal Cakes they had some fantastic tasting samples and I did not fear for my life that I would be stabbed by one of the employees for my wallet. There must be a reason why there are RORDENT traps by the backdoor of the building & bakery!!! Pros: No pros! Stay away! This place is dump! Cons: the only cons are the ones who work there! more

This shop was the perfect place to get our wedding cake. The tasting was lots of fun--tons of complimentary itty-bitty pieces of cake, frostings and fillings. The cake was delivered on time, set-up was taken care of and everything was just as we had ordered it. Our guests raved about the four cakes--chocolate chip cheesecake, lemon chiffon with raspberry filling, chocolate cake with Kahlua filling and vanilla cake with chocolate chip filling. All the cakes were frosted in buttercream and covered in white chocolate curls. They looked beautiful and tasted even better. The staff was great ollie , patty, patrick were very nice we litteraly spent a whole saturday at hansens they treated us like a king and queen, we got exactly what we ordered. the best cakes in the whole world excellent service, nice showroom great selections, great designs, prices are very affordable you get what you pay for. Plenty of parking in the back. A big selection of cakes and flavours, very moist not to sweet don't forget to ask for those yummmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyy littke samples Pros: taste great more

I would recommend not using this bakery. Not only do they have terrible service, their cakes come out wrong. I ordered a cake for my husband's birthday. He was turning 50. I asked for a cut-out number cake; a ""5"" and a ""0"". Easy right? Well that's what I thought. I got to the bakery at 4:30 pm. There were two girls working at the time. One girl was assisting a customer, and seemed very nice. The other girl was sitting at a desk next to the counter, with a pile of papers in front of her, no customer. I asked her for help, no answer. I waited a minute and asked for help again. This time she said, ""one minute"". After 15 minutes and still no help, I was ready to walk out when the girl already helping a customer got up and asked me if I was there to pick up a cake. She promptly went in back to get my cake, and asked the girl next to the counter to get a copy of my credit card. I looked in the cake box and there was only a ""5"" and no ""0"". Wow, at this point I am just shocked. I told the girl next to the counter than my ""0"" was missing and she said I didn't order a ""5"" and an ""0"", just a 5. I had the receipt in my hand; it clearly said ""5"" and a ""0"". After arguing for another 15 minutes, she finally agreed to go talk to the bakery. She comes back shortly thereafter and tells me that since I didn't order the ""0"" and since it was end of day, there was no way they could make this for me. They did however ask me if I wanted to pay another $68 dollars and they would have the ""0"" to me by morning. This was not making sense. I asked to speak to the owner, and she said he stepped out. I stormed out, went two doors down to the bakery; asked a girl if Mr. Hansen was in, she said yes, he is in his office, would you like me to get him for you. I said yes. She went into his office to let him know someone wanted to see him, and I could see him pick up the phone and make a call. 10 min later I am still standing there. I stormed out. more

I BUY ALL MY CAKES THERE -- WEDDING, BIRTHDAY, ETC. THEIR CAKES ARE THE BEST ANYWHERE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HANSEN'S FOR ALL YOUR CAKE NEEDS. IF YOU WANT, THEY WILL LET YOU SAMPLE THE CAKES BEFORE YOU DECIDE WHICH TO ORDER. Pros: Thumbs up more

I always use to love eating Hansen?s Cakes growing up however it seems recently whenever I order a cake it comes out wrong. Last week I came to pick up my moms Birthday cake, it looked like a child decorated the cake. The large rude lady while picking her teeth told me I needed to go next door to talk to the owner, Patrick Hansen. I ended up waiting over forty five minutes for them to fix the cake. When it finally came out, it didn?t look much better the second time around. I asked Patrick for a discount on the cake since I was now going to be late to my mothers birthday dinner, he said here take some cupcakes. The pathertic cupcakes looked like they were sitting on the shelf for a week. I said no thanks and walked out, under his breath I heard Patrick Hansen mumble ?CHEAP J@W."" I ordered a wedding cake, choosing one of their standard white and creme designs. When the cake arrived it was green! and white. Green where the creme colored frosting was supposed to be. There was no time to get another cake so we had a green and white wedding cake! Yuck. Their reaction to my complaint was uncaring (and it didn't seem to suprise them) And when I stated I did not believe we should have to pay the full price -- they responded that we were not entitled to a credit because we ""used"" the cake. After I objected to their position, they offered to give us 10% of the purchase price as a credit on a future cake purchase. I would never advise a friend to buy a wedding cake from them. I chose this bakery to make a cake for a very special occasion due to good reviews, and they made the most awful looking, embarrassing, inappropriate cake which left me in tears. I had even picked out one of their pre-fab options, and the cake that I got was nothing like the one that I ordered. And to make things worse, they offered no help or refund or even an apology. They were rude and unprofessional. I just wanted to warn others who might be thinking about trusting this bakery for something important, like a wedding or birthday. Pros: I can't think of one. I will NEVER give them another dime of my money. The staff is useless, unprofessional, loud, unattentive and untruthful. We tried to solidify a delivery price to Castaway Restaurant in Burbank and the price went from between $60 & $80, to a minimum of $80, to $150. Mind you, our wedding cake was only $!92. Cake tasted excellent the cake design that arrived was the correct one it was deliverd on time at our wedding we were very very very happppyyyyy. We contacted the phone number that was on the invoice and emailed hansen's before the delivery date to make sure that the cake was correct. They returned our phone calls and mails in a timely manner. Cake tasted good but the design that arrived was not the one I ordered. That would normally be disappointing but this happened to be my wedding cake so I was very upset. It arrived with tacky floral design. I still have copy of order that said ""no floral designs."" Worse yet was the way we were treated when we contacted Hansen's about the mistake later. Someone called and asked my wife to send a picture of the cake. She did and they followed up with a terse email claiming the order was correct (as if they did not even look at the flowers on the cake and the ""no floral designs"" on the picture. When my wife asked them to please re-examine the picture they literally just sent back the same email without bothering to address any logic. This happened multiple times- ignoring any new questions she asked. I then emailed him and simply asked for a phone number to contact him about an incorrect cake. He repeatedly refused to give me his phone number with no explanation, instead peppering me with questions about my order that I kept explaining I would be happy to answer over the phone. I was recently at Hansen?s bakery with a friend and vowed never to return if his same lifeless staff is still there. My friend and I walked in and an employee who was very nice and new finally greeted us. He was there to pick up a cake that he had ordered earlier in the week. Well she could not find it. Another employee came over and she could not find it either. Finally, we asked for the manager who couldn?t find the cake either, so she called the person who took the order, and she found the cake. I walked in to Hansen's to place a order for a cake & was the only one there besides another customer picking up a cake I felt I was being tossed around because everybody was too busy to help me. I finally place my order I felt I was being rushed & I sign the contract which was bad in part not to review it. To make a long story short I called 10 min. after I left to make the change on the order the employee said it was okay she would make the changes. Next day I called to make sure the changes were made & the employee told me she forgot & would call me back I never received a call from her after so many calls & being put on hold for along time. I finally spoke to a manager she was so rude & told me the changes couldn't be made but she would call me to see what she can do. I never received a call from her either. When the cake was picked up the changes were not made not only did I pay alot of money for a flavor of cake I did not want. But, when the cake was picked up the wrong cake was given to us. My husband had to take the cake back because that cake belong to someone else. No wonder they want payment in full. I had read the bad reviews but never thought it could happen to me after so many years of buying my cakes there. Go somewhere else.
