HORRIBLE 2/13/2013

I am dropping out of this school because they are just very rude. I called in sick and she was yelling at me saying she needs a doctors note or else shell drop me. VERY RUDE AT THIS DO NOT GO I HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM. I wish I could give them a ZERO!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH horrible. more

Worst School Ever! Crooked Owner! AVOID! 6/26/2012

I don't write reviews but I had to for this case to serve as warning to others. My husband signed up and paid over $3000 over a review course in order to get this license. The owner was hardly ever there. The instructors were rude. The hours were not what they promised and they kicked you out by 9pm. After paying she made you pay over $1000 extra for a kit he never received. When he went to ask for his money back for unsatisfactory service, the owner refused to refund money and called the cops on him lying that he threatend her. Her school is total scam. Avoid at all costs and please spread this word around. She deserves to have her business shut down. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/26/2012

I would give it no stars. I want to warn everyone to avoid this school at all costs. The owner is greedy and crooked. My husband spent over $3000 for a review course to get his license and got scammed. The owner was hardly ever there. The few instructors available were rude. They did not provide the training they promised. And they charged over $1000 extra for a kit he never got. When he went to the owner to ask for his money back, she refused to give him a refund. Instead she actually called the police on him, lying that he threatened her. She deserves to have her business shut down. The worst school ever! Avoid at all costs. more

best deals ever on beauty salon services! 4/13/2011

I have two daughters 10 and 15 and the three of us find ourselves coming to Hair California on a weeky basis! we keep our hair coloring, cuts and styles all up to date for such an affordable price! We also love their weekly specials. like spa mani/pedis on wednesdays for $13 and perm/retouches on mondays and saturdays for only $20! hair cuts are only $7 and for men haircuts are only $ 4 on thursdays!\r \r The students are usually super sweet and fun to chat with too which is a plus for my girls and me. \r \r I love this school! Makes spa days for me and my girls, easy and affordable! more

satisfactory 2/21/2011

I graduated from the Esthetician program in 2009. I agree with all of the other reviews in that the owner is very greedy and is pretty much out there to get your money. Although the instructors are extremely unorganized they do a good job in implanting how to pass stateboards in you! You do the same things over and over until you are so bored and can do specific treatments with your eyes closed. I must say however that if you are serious about pursuing a career in esthetics much of what you will do will require hard work, discipline, patience, and the desire to succeed. This school is fine for those who do not want to spend a lot of money and just want to have a basic foundation of the industry. Its pretty much up to you and what you want to do with it after you get licensed! more

best deal on school and services 10/18/2010

the students are taught by ms ann\r who puts up with ZERO monkey business so ppl think shes mean\r but she taught me wat i needed to pass and im thankful for that\r the school is run by a mother and daughter who are sweet and will work with you\r im having trouble believeing all on this site- those complaints are clearly by ppl who crossed the owner and in turn were prbly kicked out or suspended. hundreds of students graduate and pass the state board each year from hair california\r so the few terrible reviews on here are clearly terribly exagerated- it makes me sad\r i went on a government grant that left me with the smallest balance of 900 dolars for my entire curriculum\r u apply for this grant through hair california \r \r overall a easy ten months with a couple months of cramming rt before state board \r \r if you like hair/nails or u know watever else you can take \r u'll like it here\r \r if your a dramamomma u'll hate it at any beauty school- trust me more

HAIR CALIFORNIA BEAUTY ACADEMY 7/17/2010

i graduated from this school and i just passed state board. i had to practice a lot but this place was fun. it cast me $10,560 and ten months for my cosmetology certificate but it was completely worth it. other school make you completely teach yourself but this one makes you practice and u actually get prepared to pass the state board liscensing exam. this school also helped me pay my tuition by helping me apply for a federal grant that paid more than half my tuition! more

Run-Don't Look Back 11/2/2009

This school is more trouble than it's worth! I thought because of it's association with Santiago Canyon College it would be professional and respectful to the students. Not at all!!! That place is so unorganized it is pathetic. They lose timesheets all the time but they do ""fix"" hours for certain students. In other words, they give hours for the special elite students so they can graduate early. To top it off, the owner is always going into these rages screaming at us and threatening to expel us. So when the owner is not screaming, she is always telling us how broke she is. Who want's to hear that? Also, we are constantly being charged fees. If it's not for scan trons, its classes, then office fees. They need to explain these things to us when we start school. Since students answer the phones, we learned that bill collectors are calling and the owner has borrowed money from people (students parents, ex-students) and she is not paying them back. They were calling the school to try to get her to respond to their messages. What a snake. She fixes paperwork so if a student goes to the college to complain she creates paperwork so she wins. Come on Santiago, why do you want to be associated with someone like her. There are plenty of complaints about this school, do something about it. As for the teachers, Ms. Ann is bi-polar. There are times that she is kind but watch out, most of the times she is rude, pounds the book on the podium, never has the time to answer questions and we don't have anyone else to go to. Bottom line, if you want a professional environment so you can learn, DON’T come to this school. more

run while you still have your money 10/15/2009

if your thinking about going to this school its the worst. i recently switched schools cause the owner is a money hungry rat who tried to get paid with my grant and my fee wavier at the same time. yeah, theyre a cheap school, but you have to pay for everything you need separately from the tuition, so it all adds up to about the some as it would for a good school that teaches you everything. this school is a state board only teaching school (they only "teach" you what you need to pass and get your license) this being said. when i went out on the floor where you actually do clients i got a flattop and had to do it with no supervision all though i begged the teacher to help (posting on the door says "work done under supervision of instructors..B.S!!) i was sweating doing this guys flattop. instructor on the floor is a racist mexican lady who said "you dont understand, i hate the black people" her and the owner are all about their favorite students and treat everyone else like poop. if you more

Don't even give it a chance. 9/10/2009

I attend this school, and am not suprised at the reviews it has recieved. The owner is a money hungry, well, b*tch.. The prices are outrageous for a school. The owner actual takes time to teach us ways to squeeze as much money out of a person as we can. We are also REQUIRED to try to upsell, which I find ridiculous. \r The instructors RARELY supervise students who are working on actual clients. You might get lucky and get someone who knows what they're doing, or you might get someone who really doesn't care and doesn't want to be doing anything other than standing around and will rush to get you out of there as quickly as possible.\r Oh, and the shampoo we use is cheaper than suave, and the conditioner is watered down.\r I hate to discourage people from coming here, as I definitely appreciate the practical experience, but I really would suggest trying to find somewhere else first. more

Avoid if possible 7/15/2009

I write this review as a past student of Hair California. Corrupt - Corrupt - Corrupt. Highly suspicious of administration (director) and feel school should be investigated. You learn very little here, it's up to you to read and teach yourself. I, thank heavens, passed state board but would give only a smudge of credit to this school. It's unorganized and shady. They've LOST student hours for goodness sake! The director, who at first charms you as a sweet foreign vietnamese woman, is a snake in the grass and criminal. It's only a matter of time before her horns come out and you see the deciet she embodies. Avoid enrollment if possible, trust me. Ask any past/current student and you'll be hard-pressed to find positive response. more

Very Poor Customer Service and Pricey for Student School 1/12/2009

I agree with the other reviews. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the front desk manager was outright rude and unfriendly! Very poor example of customer service...I wonder if the owner of the school realizes. I hate this place because of the way you feel when you walk out the door...very dissatisfied and feeling like you got ripped off. more

Rude and expensive 6/13/2007

Same experience for me. Pushy trying to upsell me services I didn't need and more expensive than needs be. For crying out loud these are students trying to get practical experience on us guinea pigs. \r \r Manager should be a better example of customer service and courtesy.\r I hope the students don't imitate their manager. more

too expensive for a school 11/23/2005

i thought beauty schools were suppose to be cheap. obviously this place, a beauty school, does not see itself as a beauty school because it charges at a professional rate. which i was really suprised at. the quality of the hair and products that they used are ok but these people are only students. i don't think a hair cut should be charged the same price when it is done by a student in training as compared to a professional. i was a little bitter when i left the place and i really don't recoomend this place because it's way over priced for a beauty school. more

A Good Deal But A Horrible Manager 8/11/2005

This place will rip you off when it is only a beauty school. They tried to charge me $25 to get my shoulder length hair curled, $12 if I wanted it just straightened, and $8 to just blowdry! The lady will look at you and think you are naive, and try to inflate prices for her own profit. The students don't receive any part of the profit because they are learning and you are their subjects. It's a great deal if you're willing to argue with the manager. more
