You may think you’ve walked through an automatic doorway into the ’70s when you see these prices—but it’s a ’70s with Amy’s vegetarian meals and Morningstar Farms soy meats, as well as more traditional grocery store foods (dairy and baked goods, packaged items, candy, limited produce) and sundries—including fancy hair salon products, Barbies and other toys, over-the-counter drugs, bath towels ($3 for two), and socks ($3 for three pair). With prices this good, they can’t carry every product in every line, but for a store that’s only about 1/12th the size of Costco, their selection is at least 1/12th as wide—and, best of all, you can save $2.00 on a regular-sized carton of cereal instead of having to buy a crate or a monster-sized box. Today was my first day there, but I plan to make the half-hour trip from Belltown at least once a week, and forget about Costco.
