I purchased a car from James A. Stein (owner of Grandpa's Auto Sales) around Thanksgiving 2010 for my girlfriend. Exactly 24 hours after delivery of the car, the check engine light came on. The diagnostic code scan revealed it was the catalytic converter. However, while having that checked out, it was revealed that the front axle needed to be replaced. The car was bought as-is, but this is ridiculous.
Ironically, upon first visiting the lot, he showed me an older Buick. The car ""ran well"" but apparently needed a few minor things. I mentioned that I wanted a car that I would not have to do anything to. He talked up a 99 Metro as if it was superb, very clean and would fit the bill. I even specifically stated that I did not want a car that would break down within a week. Two months later, the transmission completely died and the car is now headed to the junkyard.
Please don't make the same mistake as I. Don't buy here. I deviated from my normal practice of buying a used car from a new car dealer - and got badly burned.
