Inept Watch Service Department. 3/9/2011

Took my Breitling Twin-Sixty navitimer in to get an overhaul. They were listed as Official Distributor on the Breitling website. (strike one since they were not listed under “maintenance centers”) Quoted 600 bucks. No problem. Got a call a couple of weeks later about the edge of the dial surface being old and ""should be"" replaced but not ""necessary"". This is that area on the edge under the sapphire face. (The watch is about 6 years old) I declined it. Weeks later, my watch arrives and the bezel shows obvious signs of half of the dial being sanded CLEAN. I mean the numbers were GONE!!! You would think that this was a situation where they should have conveyed it to me way before, instead of being vague and half-ass it and just put it back together. ( I will qualify this comment later) I showed some older dude at Bala Cynwyd and he actually gave me the poker stare and said ""I DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG"". Luckily the sales lady at Bala Cynwyd understood the problem and the watch was sent back to their ""shop"" PLUS 150 bucks more. They said that during the dusting phase, they blew air on it and lifted the numbers away and that it was not their fault. Well thanks for not conveying this to me. Fast forward a few more weeks and I get it back. The ""bezel"" that rotates (as part of the slide rule function of the navitimer) was impossible to turn. This ""bezel problem"" was sent back and a few more weeks later, I returned to pick my watch up and STILL not able to turn the bezel. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! SIGH. Sent the watch back again. Now it gets better. A week goes by and I got a call and was told that the watch will need to be sent to Breitling. OK no problem with that since we all have limitations and it is best to get help from the parent company. We are approaching 4 MONTHS at this time. A couple of weeks later I get a call from the service department at Govberg and a very nice lady told me that my watch is AT Breitling and BREITLING'S assessment of the watch is that it needs to be OVERHAULED for 600 bucks. So now BELLS are ringing in my head. She was not told beforehand that the watch was JUST overhauled by their in-house watch guy. I JUST DID IT through GOVBERG's in-house watch department for 600 bucks!!! WTF! You mean to tell me that Breitling looked at the job Govberg's watch technician did and CONCLUDED that basically NOTHING WAS DONE to my watch the first time. I question the work done by their in house technician. I will never ever take ANY watch there to service again. The sales department should be annoyed that their hard work in the front of the shop is gone to waste because of their watch department. dated: March 2011 more
