I have had 2 cakes from Chef De Long, 15 years apart, and both were fabulous. The negative reviews here are really puzzling and nasty. I have known the Chef for over 20 years and she is a fabulous person, and honest businesswoman and a master at her craft. To the person who said she posted her own review, she simply copied and pasted a review she received. She in no way toots her own horn. She is very humble and warm. Chef DeLong did my graduation cake in 1993 and it was incredible. I wish I had pictures to show - it was when her business was just starting and it was delicious and well presented. When we got married in 2008, Chef De Long created a beautiful cake for us and sketched it with us during our tasting. The Chef had not created sharks before, but she made it happen to match the cake we wanted. I wish I could post a photo! It was a beach theme, with 3 tiers, and a special bride/groom cake for later. Beautifully made sugar art - sea shells, sharks, sand, coral - and it was yummy. A lot of times when things are made like that, they look great and taste awful but her creations are yummy. The cake was moist and we only chose one flavor - it had pineapple in it and was delicious. I would recommend Gourmet Bake Shoppe to anyone. I hired Chef DeLong to create a cake for my company's 10th anniversary. When I went to pick up the cake she hadn't completed it and it looked horrible. She tried to blame me because she had a busy weekend and said I should just take the cake and be happy or that she would call the police. Horrible cake and horrible service. Gourmet Bake Shoppe made our wedding cake. When we did the initial cake tasting the cake was moist and fresh, however on our wedding day the cake delivered was VERY DRY, and the cake design was sub-par. Please do not be fooled, go elsewhere. I should have went with Jaime's Bakery. If you do not want your wedding day cake ruined go elsewhere. Our wedding cake was absolutely spectacular! You are a gifted artist. We found Gourmet Bake Shoppe on Google. After e-mailing for info, we were contacted within a fews hours. Chef De Long gave us a lot of details about cakes and suggested how we could save money on our cake and catering. She designed a menu to fit our budget which was under $15.00 per person for the catering and around $3.35 per person for the cake. Since we lived out of the area, it was not possible to make an appointment for a complimentary tasting so we took a chance and made a deposit to hold our date. We lucked out because everything that was promised to us we got and much more. The cake and food was absolutely delicious. The sugar artistry was fantastic. The service was near perfect and it totally made our entire wedding a big success. Although, we are now moving to California, we highly recommend Gourmet Bake Shoppe to all couples looking for the best. Pros: Two thumbs up Cons: Nothing to complain about more

The sugar artistry that Chef DeLong creates is absolutely amazing. When you walk in the door all you see is cakes covered in these beautiful sugar flowers in all different shapes and colors. Chef De Long gives you a wam greeting, offers bottled water and brings out these delicious cake samples to savor. \r I was extremely impressed with the professionalism, and how all the details were explained to me. I was also very impressed that she worked with our budget on the food for the catering and gave us discounts.\r It is apparent that she loves what she does and pours her heart into her work. \r Lastly, there was no pressure in booking right away, although I am really glad we did. Chef De Long's cakes are moist and delicious. She creates all her own recipes and everything is done from scratch. Her sugar artistry looks like fine porcelain. When I obtained Gourmet Bake Shoppe for my wedding weekend, I expected the best, that is not what we got. When I was looking for a baker, I had to to it long distance(since I live in Connecticut and got married in Norfolk, Virginia), so that made it hard. When I found GBS I was so happy. My husband and I went to the tasting, everything looked beautiful and tasted so fresh. We were promised a fresh beautiful cakes and she did not deliver. We purchased 3 cakes. 1 wedding cake, 1 grooms cake and a anniversary cake for the grooms parents. The Anniversary did not look at all like it was supposed to, and the cake tasted ok. The grooms cake was to have a large verson of the U.S.C.G. seal, and it was so small you couldn't even make out the seal. The killer was the wedding cake, was very very dry, and this ""sugar artist"" flowers look like a grocery store did it, and not a good one! The roses didn't look like roses and both the leaves and the flowers were very pale, like they were left out in the sun. To sum it up, do not use Gourmet Bake Shoppe could have gotten a better on at Ukrops.\r more
