Ginger Group For Hair

Wow. I was a little nervous after reading both yelp and google reviews but my dad had gotten an Entertainment coupon for me from there so I thought I'd give it a shot- couldn't be that bad, right?! Wrong. I'm just happy I didn't actually pay for any of it- except for the tip- which I wish I could take back! My hair is very short- I have learned after many years of short hair that is difficult to find a good stylist for short hair. Therefore, I feel that I have learned to become a little more lenient with my standards for haircuts. But this was just unacceptable... First- the color- it was done by Crystal. I specifically told my ""color specialist"" that I wanted to be blonde. My hair was a med/light brown and I wanted something pretty light. She was concerned that highlighting would be too drastic and suggested just dying it a lighter blonde. Now I have highlight my hair MANY times and have been very blonde before but she insisted it would be light enough. Of course, it didnt turn out that way. So when I told her I wanted it lighter she said she was too busy to fix it that day or the next and I live in Chicago and was leaving. So too bad for me. She then tells me to ""look in the natural light"" bc its probably lighter than I think. And says ""I would not tell anyone to do this..."" but still tells me to ""PUT PEROXIDE ON IT"". Are you kidding me?! I just paid $80 for you to highlight my hair and you're telling me to peroxide it!!! Absolutely unacceptable. Second- the cut. Jacqui was really nice. I had to wait while she finished someone else and let her cut someone bangs in the middle of my cut. I didn't mind AT ALL assuming not rushing her would mean she would take her time on my cut. I'm trying to grow out a pixie and its in an awkward stage. Jacqui said she recently did the same thing and understood. However, I would rather take a step back in the ""grow out"" in order to have a good style. She agreed but instead kept apologizing that my ""hair sucked"" bc of the stage it was in. The haircut was just poor and the whole time I was annoyed. I left thinking the cut was ""fine"" but definitely not thrilled. I later had to thin out the bulky sides myself bc it looked like I was growing mutton chops. The back is not blended at all- even my dad noticed! BUT THE WORST- as she was trying to thin out my hair, she cut a piece right in the middle of my part! Now I have a chunk of hair about half an inch long sticking up like an alfalfa in the back of my head. (I'm going to try to post a picture of it). Its ridiculous. How can a professional make such a rookie mistake? Its pretty bad. I was afraid to even go back to this place to have someone try to ""fix"" all the things wrong with my cut. They may have been a great salon years ago but the salon and its stylists just seem outdated. The whole experience was pretty bad. more

Got the absolute worst haircut of my entire life. For all the hype they advertise and what the owner charges, you would expect him to have some inkling to what he was doing. But alas, such was not the case. I asked David for a classic, flattering, easy to wear look, but got just the opposite: a style that was in about thirty years ago with middle aged women, and not even a good cut for that style. It couldn't have been worse. It's not just me that thinks this. Everyone noticed, and I got double takes from my friends. The horror was evident on their faces, even though they tried to cover it up and tell me it will grow out eventually. I am so upset about it, I just can't stand looking at it. It's humiliating having to wear this cut until it grows out, which will be many months. more

Was leary going in because went in on a groupon...but let me tell you what a great color and cut I got.....I have not gotten this many compliments on my hair in a long time...Thank you !!!!!!! The cut and color was awesome, natural and exactly what I needed. Thank You again! I will being seeing you all soon! more

Love this salon. I have been to many salons in the area and none compare. This salon is professional and I love my hair. Everything Allure magazine says is true about this salon. more

I have been going to the Ginger Group for a long time and I have never had a bad experiance. When I am ready for a change or if my stylist suggests a change we always look at pictures of hairstyles to make sure we are on the same page, and they always consult before cutting. I am very pickie about my hair but this is more

I am giving this place one star only because the Colorist was good. Don't believe the hype you might read in the style magazines. The first haircut I received was great but when I went back for a trim Ken decided I needed a new style. The problem was he forgot to discuss it with me and I got the absolute worst haircut I have ever had. This also happened to a friend who after seeing my first cut, went to Ken. Her second cut was even worse than mine. My advise? Go to another salon!!!! more

I had a $125 gift certificate for The Ginger Group for Hair. I called in advance and asked how much a cut, color and highlight would be... they told me $110. I was at the salon for 5 hours, they charged me $220 and I received the WORST haircut I have ever gotten! I do not recommend this place - unless you have money to burn and want to hate your hair! It makes me want to cry every time I look in a mirror now! more

It is always such a fun experience getting my hair cut and colored at the Ginger Group. I would recommend it to anyone! more

Fantastic stylists, in Birmingham but not pretentious! Extremely well trained staff, up on all the newest/European styles, but very down to earth. Very comfortable for all, young hip or middle aged/conservative! more
