Best

If you haven't visited Gilberts lately go visit soon. The food is wonderful, fresh and portions are generous. Share a plate… there's enough for 2!...

Go at off-hours to avoid the stampede 4/15/2005

The secret to finding parking and getting timely service at Gilbert's is to schedule an early or late lunch. I went in for lunch at 1:30 on a weekday, and found plenty of curb parking and seating. Also, my lunch of matzoball soup and half corned beef sandwich was delivered almost as soon as I sat down and begin flipping through the newspaper. Although you know you're in Swellevue and not Manhattan when you're paying nine bucks for a bowl of matzoball soup, it is delicious, and feels fabulous on a cold, miserable, rainy day. The corned beef was divine enough to convert a vegetarian -- fresh, lean, neither salty nor oily -- and the rye bread was fresh, thick-sliced and absolutely delightful. Service was friendly. Pros: Home-cooked food, generous portions, few good delis around Cons: Prices, Limited parking more

High cost... 9/22/2004

if you are in a hurry, or wanting a fair value, you'd be better looking elsewhere. The food was very good, but waiting nearly 10 minutes to order, about the same to get the food, and then paying $13 for most lunch meals isn't what most people think of for a deli. Pros: high qulaity food, tasty food, ambience Cons: , wait more

Number 9, Number 9, Number 9 6/4/2004

Gilbert's Main Street Deli is home to one of the Great Sandwiches of all time. The Number 9 is a true classic, and for that sandwich alone Gilbert's earns its place among the Maestri. The menu does not end there, however. Try the Cranberry-Turkey sandiwch, the Raspberry Vinagrette and Walnut salad, or the Tomato Florentine soup. But don't miss out on the Number 9. It's a life changing experience. Pros: The Number 9, Great Food!, Character Cons: , On the expensive side, Service can be spotty more

Best east-side ""feels like NYC"" 6/11/2003

We just moved from NYC, and this place is the as good as any NY deli you can find in the big apple. I dont know what others are complaining about, we visit Gilbert's almost everty weekend (I would say more than 10 times by now) and they NEVER miss - always excellent. Pros: Food, Service, Gilbert Cons: Not cheap more

disappointing! 5/15/2003

I found the breakfast items to be ridiculously overpriced. $12 for a bagel with lox?!! Very few items besides the side dishes were under $10. We're not talking about a 4-star restaurant here, this is a deli. Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: expensive!!, slow service more

Tasty but EXPENSIVE 3/6/2003

This is a fantastic place with fantastic food-- but there's a catch. It'll cost you. Where else can you go out with a colleague for a sandwich and iced tea and pay $30? But we do it. There's always a line, sometimes out the door, of grumbling but willing, patrons. Sometimes, when the food is this good, it's worth the cash. Pros: Huge Portions, High Quality, Tasty Cons: Expensive, Long Lines, Uncomfortable Chairs more

Best Eastside Pastrami! 12/8/2002

For us east coasters missing good Jewish delis, Gilbert's isn't quite it but it comes as close as anything on the Eastside! Most food items run anywhere from acceptable to excellent. I find the sourdough bread to be somewhat uneventful, but putting their hot pastrami on it MORE than makes up for whatever it lacks! The also have EXCELLENT pasta salads! Two major knocks against a place that would otherwise be a real find: the service can be QUITE slow and the prices are a bit steep for the lunch crowd. Still, it's hard to argue on the price once you see how much meat has been piled onto your sandwich! For the price conscious (and those not looking to be overstuffed), order the half sandwich! Pros: Pastrami, Pasta Salads, Food Quantity Cons: Slow Service, Price, Parking more

Great food - goofy place 11/14/2002

The food at Gilberts is awesome but the service can be painfully slow. The sandwiches are massive - made with fresh, top notch ingredients. Breakfasts are OK - there are better bfast places on the eastside. The service on the other hand can be trying. Waiters seem to wander aimlessly looking for the number on a table that matches their order. A great lunch spot if your patient more

Not impressed 10/27/2002

Had lunch just yesterday and after spending over $20 on a chicken sandwich and a bowl of matzo ball soup (which was overly bland) left disappointed. Also, for a ""bagel"" place, had no basic bagel options listed on the menu. I suppose one is to use their own intuition / or be a mind reader at ordering a simple bagel. Pros: location Cons: overpriced, cramped, slow service more

Incredible Breakfasts! 8/18/2002

I'm a breakfast lover and this is the best breakfast place I've found in Bellevue. The food's great and, on weekends, they have live music to go with breakfast. The portions are enormous. It's not what you think of when you think of a deli--it has more of an upscale bistro atmosphere. Pros: outside seating, outstanding food more
