Best

If you haven't visited Gilberts lately go visit soon. The food is wonderful, fresh and portions are generous. Share a plate… there's enough for 2!...

The food at Gilberts is awesome but the service can be painfully slow. The sandwiches are massive - made with fresh, top notch ingredients. Breakfasts are OK - there are better ...

Best tasting Breakfast with the Best Value 11/20/2008

My husband and I like to take Fridays off to go for walks and eat breakfast out. One of our favorite places is Gilbert's on Main. We love Gilbert's not only for their warm ambiance and New York cafe feel but the food is wonderful. Everything we've had is fresh, they have a variety of combinations for their scrambles and omelets and if you prefer something altogether different they will make that for you. Today I was delighted to take my girlfriends daughter to breakfast at Gilbert's, it was her first time there. She was curious about this curried scramble but wasn't sure she'd like it. Gilbert ran to the back and made her a ""taste"" . Of course she LOVED IT!!! As did I. Now where can you get such personalized service like that these days? Gilbert's is a busy place ,always hopping, but don't let that intimidate you. They always seem to make room for one more. Once you've been there I guarantee you'll want to come back, if only just for the varied bagels, cream cheese and freezer jam. YUMMMM more

Best Lunch Venue in Bellevue 11/20/2008

Gilbert's on Main is officially my favorite place to get lunch in Bellevue. I've been there a few times now and have never been disappointed with their food, service, queue, or anything. They have a very high standard for quality which I fully appreciate.\r \r I went for lunch with a coworker yesterday afternoon and we both had the most delightful lunch. I had a traditional turkey sandwich with a ""first date"" salad on the side, and my coworker had the maple honey glazed turkey sandwich with a poached pear salad on the side. My sandwich was very good (soft thick bread, flavorful turkey, and the dijon mustard is so sweet and tangy) and the salad was the perfect accompaniment (strawberries, dates, Gorgonzola, pine nuts, apple vinaigrette.... what's not to like?!). My coworker was entirely impressed with her lunch as well. We will both be returning for lunch frequently in the future.\r \r This is the best place to have a casual yet delicious lunch in Bellevue. I've heard their breakfast is outstanding as well, so I will have to make a point to try that out sometime too! Pros: Food Quality, Service, Ambience Cons: Parking more

Every time I go to Gilberts, I am greeted with happy faces, and great customer service.... The food is always consistent-\r i absolutely love this place, i eat here almost everyday, and have never had a bad experience... i am happy to write a review for my neighborhood family run restaurant. it is far and few between finding a place that is super family oriented... more

Best Eastside sandwiches and soup 10/23/2008

Gilbert's really does have the best soup and sandwiches on the Eastside! Yes, the wait can be a little long when it's busy, but that's true of most any good place to eat . The staff is friendly and courteous, and Steve Gilbert is real class act. The breakfasts are very good as well, but the lunches are my favorite, French Onion soup with half a Rueben... heaven! Pros: food, food, food! Cons: parking sometimes more

Besy Sandwich Ever: #9 10/16/2008

Gilbert's makes the best sandwich ever constructed by man. The Number 9 is absolutley huge and packed with pastrami and roast beef. It counts as two meals because you will be done after the first half. Girls tend to go for the Number 1, which is less intimidating but also delicious. The owner, Steve Gilbert (I know his name only because he is extremely friendly and always makes sure things are going well), is great. I highly recomend this place to anyone and always bring friends from out of town there to try the sandwich that I always talk about. more

Why didn't I know about this place sooner... 10/5/2008

I've lived in Bellevue for a long time, and for some reason never tried Gilbert's (on old Main St.). After eating breakfast there recently I can honestly say it's the best bagel place in the greater Eastside area. It's cheap (incredibly cheap on weekday mornings; something like $2 for a FULL breakfast), and every single item I tried down to the potato salad that came with my bagel was homemade and delicious. The soup was also great. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good, affordable breakfast in Bellevue! Pros: Incredible food, extremely friendly management, affordable (best deals in the morning) Cons: After eating here no other bagel place will ever quite cut it more

Great friendly atmosphere and amazing food! 10/5/2008

I decided to try a new breakfast place in bellevue, and came across Gilbert's cafe. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly and Gilbert was available to make suggestion's from the menu. The hot turkey and swiss bagel sandwich is to DIE for! The flavors are innovative and fresh and the portions are large, enough to share with your plus one. I HIGHLY recommend Gilbert's to anyone craving a seriously delectable treat! Pros: Seriously delectable food and live music!!! Cons: May get crowded, so it's best to go at non-peak hours more

warm and friendly 10/2/2008

Very warm and friendly atmosphere with great homestyle cooking. Generous sandwiches and savory homemade soups. Nice paring of cheeses with omlettes and salads too. Live music on weekend days. Pros: welcoming atmosphere and friendly service. Cons: parking can be hard to find on weekends more

Great food, great service, great prices, great portions, great atmosphere! Need I say more? 9/24/2008

A co- worker invited me to breafast last week. She received a coupon in the meal which listed several ""micro-mini"" breafast combo's. We have been EVERYDAY since. \r Today we took other co-worker (tired of hearing us talk about this place) and they agreed Gilbert's on Main was all that we said it was. The food, the service, the prices, the portions and the atmosphere will make you return. \r It made me want to ""review"" something for the first time! Pros: Portions are so big, two people can eat for the price of one. Cons: You may get addicted. more

Gilbert's on Main...eat well 9/19/2008

Gilbert's Deli on Main in Old Bellevue is a delicious spot for breakfast or lunch. The unusual but ample fare are always fresh and well presented. The ""Micro"" scrambles are ample enough for two, which tells you how big the regular portions are! Try the #1 Bagel Bite sandwich or the #5 Hot Pastrami and Cold Turkey on Rye. You'll be happy. The Matzo Ball soup is as close to NYC style as we will get in the Pacific Northwest. The prices are slightly on the high side, but the food is good quality and the atmosphere is charming! Pros: food quality, ambience Cons: cost more

Great Neighborhood Restaurant 9/9/2008

I was visiting from out of town and stumbled upon this gem. The soups, salads and sandwiches were so good it merited a second trip back the next day. My favorites were the seasonal salads, most notable was the spinach with strawberries, asparagus etc, topped with a fresh raspberry vinigerette. My friend liked the pastrami so much he ordered it two days in a row. The service is fast and friendly, and the food you can tell is prepared with love. A rare find in an area dominated by chain restaurants. more

Awesome for Breakfast or Lunch 9/5/2008

This place has awesome bagels and very nice meal choices for breakfast or lunch. It's a little pricey for the full meals (unless you get one of their specials), but it's well worth it. The owner and his staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. Definitely a great place to meet someone for a meal. more

Best Boutique Style Breakfast Place.... and lunch is excellent too! 8/8/2008

My girlfriend and I went to Gilbert's last weekend. It was her first time and I was proud to get to introduce her to such a happening spot in Old Bellevue. The food is fantastic and there's lots of good food adventures to be had on the menu - all have been terrificly yummy! Gilbert is wonderful and there most the time. There was even a guitarist there - at breakfast! It added to the fun, wasn't too loud so we could keep chatting. It's a great place truly not to be missed! Pros: Ambience, service, food adventure and quality! more

Great food, ambiance, and service! 7/28/2008

Two girlfriends and I went there Sunday around 1:30pm hoping for breakfast... unfortunately we just barely missed it. Our disappointment quickly melted when Gilbert himself greeted us with complimentary beverages and salads to go with our lunches. He even gave us some personally-handwritten coupons for free breakfasts next time. The food was delicious, healthy, and hearty. There was live music and a very friendly atmosphere. We will definitely make this one of our regular spots! Pros: relaxed and casual yet elegant atmosphere Cons: not much seating; i left like a vulture waiting for people to leave so i could take their table more

Fantastic Hosts and Food 6/30/2008

After running the Seafair Marathon, my friend Jevon suggested Gilbert's as a place to eat, drink, and generally recuperate. Despite being packed to the gills, a gracious host approached US and then went off and put together a table with five seats. It was really quite unbelievable and I'm very grateful, the food tasted that much better (of course it's excellent and you don't need me to tell you that if you've ever been there). more

Great atmosphere 6/28/2008

This is a great hangout for lots of different people. The food is delicious and the portions are large. There's outdoor seating if you want to be in the sun, and cozy tables if you want a more private dining experience. I could go to this cafe everyday for a month and not get tired of the food. You should definitely try it out. Pros: Service, atmosphere, and food more

really nice healthy soup, friendly people 6/2/2008

We have been to this place twice now. Its a cute family owned place in old bellevue. The owner, steve gilbert, is really nice and will take his time to make sure you are happy. The bagels are really nice and airy. The water is even good. You serve yourself out of a glass container that has limes and oranges in it- sooo yummy and fragrant. Also, there is outdoor seating for when the sun is shining. Highly recommend. Pros: great service, good food, nice setting Cons: a little expensive for lunch/breakfast more

Great food and comfortable atmosphere! 5/30/2008

I love this place-the food is excellent, and I like that it's very close to the downtown Bellevue park-it's a great place for a walk before or after your great meal! I like the breakfast egg combo meal-you get a bagel of your choice from their large selection, eggs, fruit or yogurt, plus the lattes have that made-with-care taste to them. I am always greeted by the owner or the regular staff with a friendly hello and chat. It's a great neighborhood place! The weekend jazz is also a bonus! Pros: Great neighborhood feel more

Best Pastrami outside of the Stage Delicatessen in New York 5/2/2008

Incredible pastrami sandwich - you receive a ""piled high"" ample portion and the pastrami is done to mouth watering perfection with the bread so fresh and the mustard so perfect that you will die and go to heaven. It is a little pricey but something I am glad to pay for since the quality is outstanding. The service is super and Steve Gilbert is a total hands on owner. You will freqeuntly see him coming to your table and making certain that everything is perfect with your dining experience. This is a place I return to at least once every one to two weeks. Another great item on his menu is the ice tea - he has a secret recipe done with a combination of several different ice teas and again - an ample serving in a great tall ice tea glass which is topped off with a slice of orange and a slice of lemon. This is the perfect taste treat to go with your paistrami sandwich. more

Great Food, Great People 4/27/2008

Gilbert's is a wonderful place to grab a bagel or a full breakfast. It has great atomsphere, ambionce and fun staff. The food is GREAT. Gilbert's uses very high quality, fresh ingredients. Simply a great place to meet a friend, have a coffee, or sit down for breakfast. I give it 2 thumbs up.\r \r \r Thanks Steve! Pros: Great ""Micro-Breakfasts"" also inexpensive Cons: Few things a little pricey - but worth it more
