Awesome Place! 11/8/2011

Garrett defines what a great Baraber Shop should be. I have been going to Garret since 2001 and the haircuts are awesome and the price is very reasonable. Garrett is always redefining his shop; updating the interior with new decor and styles. Always awesome music playing. Both Garrett and Danielle provide superb cuts and make you feel welcome. more

Above and Beyond 4/6/2011

I needed a last minute haircut last night and went down to Garrett's. It was already after 7pm and he was pulling out of the driveway to go home. He saw me, turned around, opened the shop and cut my hair. Awesome! And as always, the haircut was perfect. more

Great Shop!!! 3/8/2011

I'm not much of a writer, but I went to Garrett's because it was rated high on google. It's as good as the reviews say. I went yesterday with my son. Garrett gave me a haircut and his assistant (a woman, but I don't remember her name) cut my sons hair. My wife was so thrilled when we got home. Definitely found my new barber. I can't believe he's been there 10 years and I had never heard of him. more

Finally, a real barber shop!!! 2/28/2011

I just got home from my first visit to Garrett's Barber Shop in Berlin. I moved to the area about six months ago and have been looking for a place to get a good haircut. Every month I've been trying a new place with no success. Either it was an old guy who only did one haircut or it was an over-priced salon that cost me an arm and a leg for a sub-par haircut by a woman who tried to sell me products the whole time. Very uncomfortable. more

Best Barber in Hartford Area!!! 10/2/2009

I've been going to Garrett's Barber Shop every 4 weeks for the last 8 years and have never had anything less then the perfect haircut. He never cuts corners or gets sloppy. I've never had a barber before who was so consistent. Prices are competitive and the shop has a young atmosphere that seems to be constantly evolving. Usually sports on of the TV's and always plenty of good magazines. He also sells good hair products for men, which is a plus and can show you how to use them properly. I highly recommend him and his other employees seem to be just as meticulous as he is. I recommend that you make an appointment as walk-ins can be tough to get. Pros: Garrett actually gives you the hair cut you ask for! more

Dada da duh duuuh - I'M LOVING IT! (Get it? like McDonald's). 4/9/2007

first of all, I'd like to thank the good people at citysearch for the tips on good writing. I'll do my best to be conversational, specific, [my]self, and fair. CONVERSATIONAL (I'm going to write as if I'm relaying my experience to a good friend.) ""Dear Good Friend to whom I am relaying my experience, how are you? I hope all is well since the accident. They say it takes time to heal from the scars after a battle with typhoid. May you come off victorious, my friend! Slay the beast! Anyway, all is well with me in the Big Apple. There are plenty of good looking women here! Wowee! One thing though - I haven't had a haircut in about 5 years. I know it sounds extreme, but I haven't been able to find a barber who is as qualified or proficient as my old barber back in CT. I think his name was Gary. He looks like a Gary. Body of a sportsman, I tell you. Gadzooks! So back to the ""conversation"" - here I am with 5 yrs of hair on my head. People have been coming up to me on the street, asking if they can pose for pictures with me. It's a little embarrassing, but I figure they know beauty when they see it, so I don't stop them from the blessing. I was cool with it until I realized that little children thought I was actually Chewbacca from Star Wars. When I put ""2"" and ""2"" ""2""-gether (wink!), I countered by insisting that, if anything, I looked more like an ewok since I'm not 6' 9"". It was rough. Chewy, you're not alone. I am willing to put up with this maltreatment for one reason alone = no one cuts hair like Derick's Barber Shop. (He looks like a Derick.) If you're in the area of CT, I strongly recommend stopping by for trim. It's off the hook! Please give my love to your family. Sincerely, Marco Shalvinsky."" SPECIFIC: Garrett's Barber Shop has something in common with ""lazy service"" or ""tasty pizza"" - it leaves you wanting more! I can't get enough - I wish I had more hair for him to cut! MYSELF: I'm 6' 9"" &mad hairy; a Jewish Chewbacca. FAIR? Yes Pros: Garrett has great hair Cons: Not yet international (not yet!) more

What Reality TV is Lacking... 4/7/2007

So last Tuesday I was feeling pretty gloomy. My girlfriend had dumped me for my best friend, and I had no where to turn.I looked at myself in the mirror and decided to go get a haircut. So as usual, I hopped in my car and headed on down to Garrett's Barber Shop. I walked in the door to find a heavily-crowded shop; clients filling all the chairs, the waiting area bursting at the seams, and even people standing against the walls, waiting for their turn. ""I'll never get in"", I thought to myself. I figured that this was just the next thing to go wrong in my already terrible day. But then, as I turned to walk out the door, I heard the clippers turn off, and Garrett's caring, but remarkably masculine voice say, ""What is it, friend? You look like you could use a listening ear."" Garrett was right. So I began to tell my story. Well, Garrett not only listened, but commandeered the support of all the waiting patrons. The next thing I knew, we were sitting in a circle, each telling his own story of heartache, feeling finally, like our emotions were valid and acceptable. And we all concluded, once and for all, that we would never be ashamed to rely on our fellow brethren for emotional support in a time of need. And at that moment, it became obvious that the only thing left for us to do... was to sing. And so we began to compose a song of triumph. And upon it's completion, we stood together, shoulder to shoulder, a band of brothers, and sang at the top of our lungs the song which we had aptly named: ""Boys are Stronger Than Girls Sometimes"". Well it just so happened that one of the clients was famed record producer, Scott Storch. So he took our song back to the studio and layed down that track with lead vocals being performed by none other than Latin singing sensation Enrique Iglesias. Everyone at the shop decided that I should be credited with writing the song. My first royalty check, for over $400,000, arrived this morning. Thank you Garrett. Thank You more

Garrett's Barber Shop, where 4/7/2007

I was on the barber chair, at Garrets Barber Shop, as Garrett held his clippers in one hand, with a sparkle in his eyes he asked me "" Would you like a number one, or number two on the sides?"" Number one or number two? I was never good at making a decision between the Big Mac, or the two cheeseburgers, (no condiments of course!) What a decision to make, what a step to take! For the next two weeks it would could either be "" wow Golf T's, that Big Mac looks great!"" Or,""hey Golf T's why don't you bring your two cheeseburger self over here, and sit next to me?"" Of course no one would concentrate on the ""fries and the shake,"" but what can I say, some people have no appreciation for the fine arts on two feet. As the Phantom of the Opera Movie Soundtrack began to play on the ov er head speakers I began to sing softly. With out a moments notice I jumped out of the chair, began to glide ever so softly and quite dramatically across the smooth wooden floor, I spun like a ballerina and landed on the barber chair to continue the long life quest of having that one hair cut that would leave me looking delicious! I begged Garrett to use his enchanting clippers like King Arthur used Excalibur, and take reign over the kingdom of hair that had conquered my skull. After Garrett was done, I glanced to my left as I saw Robert Goulet sitting in his chair, in that breath taking record hanging on the wall, almost as to say ""Golf T's- you are one Sex-C beast!"" ""Thank you Goulet, my you look yummy yourself!"" As I proceeded to pay (or so I thought) my alarm clock went off, as the numbers blinked 6:00 am. It had all been a dream I jumped out of bed, took a shower, threw my moo-moo on and went on my merry way, on over to Garretts Barber Shop, where dreams are not only made, they are reinvented. Thank you Garrett, and thank you Goulet, the two of you, through the effective use of ""Baby Sign,"" have taught me that wether it's a Big Mac or two Cheeseburgers on the sides, I will always look good! Pros: They are all Pros! What can I say, they are good at what they do! Cons: Just Goulet, I heard he was behind bars for the extravagant use of Paisleys! more

Perfect Haircuts...Are they Just a Dream? 4/5/2007

The answer to that question is a large and prominent ""no"". Garrett has been my barber for over 20 years now. And over those years, I've gotten to know him, the mysterious, yet approachable man behind the barber chair, and I'd like to share a personal antidote: One blustery fall morning, I waltzed into Garrett's Barber Shop and demanded a perm. (In my defense, I had just finished watching Mystic Pizza) Garrett sat me down and convinced me perms were not the way to go. He then gave me the most glorious of all hair styles...the Mushroom cut. I was floored. It was more than I ever could've dreamed. I wept openly at my own beauty, and instead of mocking my tears, Garrett wept right along with me. We just sat there for a moment, like two over-weight women, weeping and sitting, sitting and weeping. When I was ready to leave, he then refused my money saying ""Your hair is my own reward."" I'll never forget that. Bless your heart, Garrett P. Keaton, bless your heart. Pros: Weeping like women Cons: As if... more

A Generous Spirit 3/30/2007

I wanted to share this experience because I think it teaches a valuable lesson. I went into Garrett's Barber Shop last week. As always, the haircut was fantastic. On my way out, I handed Garrett a couple of bucks for a tip. He put out his hand, but rather than take the money, he grasped my hand gently and said, ""Please don't. There are others who need this more than I."" He then proceeded to take out his checkbook and match the dollar amount of the tip and send that check off to the charity of my choice. Garrett is not just a barber. He is a humanitarian. Pros: Strong Moral Values more

More than just a haircut!! 3/30/2007

I went to Garrett's Barbershop last Thursday because a friend recommended it. I was NOT let down! First of all, the haircut was superb! I asked for the ""blowout"" and when I walked out, a woman walked right up to me and said, ""Excuse me, but are you one of the Gotti boys?"" That's the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. Pros: Smell, Taste, and Feel more

The Barbershop of Barbershops! 3/9/2007

Do you want to get a fantastic haircut AND have a wonderful time? Head over to Garrett's shop. An absolutley brilliant establishment. It's what a barbershop is meant to be. Owned by a young local with an old soul. Go for the haircuts, stay for the humorous anecdotes. Be sure to ask for the ""blowout"" cut or if you really want a good cut request ""The Sportsman"". This place gets ""two clippers up""! more

Great Shop! Awesome haircuts! 1/1/2007

Garrett's is a small shop owned by a young guy from the area. There are 2 or 3 other barbers that work there as well. The haircut I got was easily the best haircut I have EVER gotten! The shop is hip and up-to-date. TV's showing sports, good music playing, funny banter, etc. I have gone to some other shops in the area and they tend to be very old-fashioned with barbers who don't really listen. Garrett listened to EXACTLY what I wanted and then did just so. Great experience. Reasonable prices- around $15. Pros: Parking, atmosphere, haircut quality Cons: Can't think of any. more

Berlin's #1 Barber Shop featuring experienced men's hair stylists

Owner Message
  • Originally Luigi's Barber Shop, the business was purchased by Garrett Kenny in 2001 at age 19. Continuing the tradition started by Luigi Feole in the 1970's, Garrett kept the barber shop a true men's shop, rather than converting it to a unisex salon as was the popular trend at the time. In late 2001, Garrett was joined by Sam Cannarella, the founder of Parisian Day Spa in Cromwell. For over seven years Sam loyally provided the type of old-fashioned service that his father, also a barber, had provided for previous decades. In 2004, Neal Henry joined Garrett's and developed a sterling reputation that would be the foundation of his own barber shop. After several years, Neal ventured out on his own and started Clippers Barber Shop in Plainville, CT, where he still operates.
